I have a couple of questions about this PVR. Since Rogers is increasing my cable rates soon I'm looking at all options available to me including switching to BEV.

Does the PVR passthrough the signal? Say you are watching a normal SD channel, does the DVR output 480i? Or do you have to lock the HD output to a specific resolution? Are all resolutions available on the Component outputs (I thought I saw one article saying it did only 480i on the component and all other resolutions were limited to the HDMI)?

Does the PVR do name based recording? I read one review which said the Dish PVR version does do this, but I'm wondering specificly about the Bell PVR if this works. Does it work on a per channel basis or would it catch the same show on multiple channels (I assume it is channel based)?

In regards to the TV2 output, if you are in two person mode and tuned to 4x3 (SD) material on the TV2 output, is it presented correctly on a 4x3 television or would it be converted? The TV1 output of my setup would be to a Toshiba HDTV in widescreen.

Thanks for any answers you can provide folks! Looks like a decent PVR for Bell finally, about time.

Jason
It upconverts everything to your output. If you set 1080i output, SD channels will be upconverted and outputted as 1080i. Component output does them all 480i 480p 720p 1080i.

There is no name based recording on the 9200 but the beta tester guy on the forums here says its coming. No idea how it works when it comes out.

On TV2 mode on a 4:3 TV for SD channels use the stretch mode and it will format properly on the 4:3 TV. For HD channels and pvr recorded shows it will look squished because the setting is on 16:9 for TV1. There's a dual mode which i haven't used maybe that will work and set TV2 to 4:3 i will confirm tonight when I go home.

Thanks for the info Vanrobson. The no passthrough is a deal killer for me. Without passthrough I would be constantly forced to stretch the screen where my current Rogers SA8300HD box passes through the signal letting my TV automatically stretch. Perhaps they'll add this as a feature later on, but I doubt it. Guess I'll just stay with Rogers.

Does anyone know if Bell will allow you to trade in a rental 6100 for a 9200. In June I bought a new TV and it included free install, plus HD for a year, and a free year of renting 6100. Now I want to trade in my 6100 for a 9200. I am just scared of what kind of battle I will have to get into

Cheers,

Questions:
1. Does the remote work well if you are in another room? Will it go through floors well?
2. Is the recorded shows/locks/favourites all seperate so that neither TV can see the other?
3. Would you agree that the two "virtual recievers" appear totally separate?
After playing around a lot tonight I have new answers.

2. Recorded shows are shared. Locks and Favorites are separate in dual mode. Also in dual mode, with Record Plus off, you canot conflict with the other TV/Tuner. With Record Plus on, you have a choice to set default recordings to use your tuner or the other tuner. If there's 2 shows to be recorded, it will use the free tuner to record the 2nd show which will interrupt the other tv/tuner.

3. You can set it up to be completely separate, dual mode, record plus off. All except recorded shows.

Over the Air really interests me and being so close to Buffalo I should be able to pull in a lot of channels. I will also be right on the lake so Cleveland channels may in fact be possible. How does the over the air HD channels work with the 9200.

- Do the channels populate in the guide?
- Is it a separate guide?
- How is the picture quality compared to the satellite picture quality (Only care about HD)
- Would you be able to customize it where your over-the air HD channels are in the same area of the guide as your satellite HD channels?

If anyone can answer any of these questions is would be great!! Thanks

- Yes OTA channels populate in the same guide as SAT channels. They are highlighted yellow on left channel bar, otherwise appear the same. They are at the very bottom of the guide below the numbered channels. You can customize the name of each channel with 4 characters. I used FOXh for FOX-HD etc.
- The 9200 will search for either or both digital or analog OTA channels. You will want digital of course for HD. There's also a lot of digital SD out there.
- Picture quality in HD is awesome. 7 OTA-HD channels in the Windsor area from Detroit.
- You could make a favourites list to group your channels together in the guide.
- btw. a 9200 will also record OTA channels.

I received an email from Future Shop that says

"A Simple Upgrade
If you currently have a Bell ExpressVu system, you are eligible for an upgrade to the 9200 HD PVR Plus, so the new technology won't leave you behind. See an in-store Associate for details."

I have only had my 6120 system for a few months now.

Can anyone elaborate on this?

Thanks

Well I can tell you this, Todd. BellWorld seems to be the only locations that have received the 9200s so far. Any other retailers have not received their ordered quantities to date, and when they will is up to BEV to decide. Suggest therefore that you check by phoning BellWorld locations at this point in time.

1. Is there recording padding? Ie. watching show (didn't schedule record), push record button, does it record from that point on, or does it include the buffer that you've been recording like Tivo?
2. Say I have 2 tv's, one upstairs and one downstairs. Watching something downstairs, can I push record show, then go upstairs, and watch from where I left off?
3. Will the USB port be available to add more HD capacity in the future? From the other thread, it seems that it is disabled.
4. Is there a manual online? I'd like to check what kind of outputs are available for my 2nd SD TV. Update: found a site that says, composite A/V for TV2 only, but also mentioned "1 Agile Modulated RF output" what is that?

Thanks in advance.

Does anyone know if the epg is actually HD or is it just upconverted SD? Is there a widescreen epg that isn't stretched?

This is my first post so I hope I've done it right.
I've been a EV customer for a number of years now and am about to buy the 9200 system when available in this area. I recently went down to the local electronics shop to place my name on the list and while talking to the store techs, I was told that I would have to upgrade my dish from the 9200 kit supplied 20" dish to two 24" dishes in order to receive the 91 and 82 feeds.
They said it was necessary because of our location. I would appreciate if their was someone possibly around my area who could verify that? I live midway up Vancouver Island. Thanks

There is a one hour buffer. If you flip channels the buffer resets. If you have watched 1/2 hour of a show and press record it will record from that point on with some options. You can however rewind 1/2 hour and then press record which would then record from beginning.

2. Say I have 2 tv's, one upstairs and one downstairs. Watching something downstairs, can I push record show, then go upstairs, and watch from where I left off?

Yes you can do that. Once you press record you just go into the PVR menu and select the show and start watching. You will have to FF or skip ahead to the part you left off on. If you were already watching it from the PVR menu then the receiver will remember where you left off.

3. Will the USB port be available to add more HD capacity in the future? From the other thread, it seems that it is disabled.

I hope so.

I haven't seen one for the 9200 but there is one for the US version.....942.

If you have the extra $$, I would agree with your installer to spend the money and use two dishes. However why could you not keep the 18" for sat 91 the way it is and use the 20" that comes with the 9200 for sat 82? In fact that is what I would do as the two individual dishes should do fine as they will be fine tuned to one satellite each.

I have a question,

I have read that the 9200 will pick up OTA HD channels. With that being said, how you all doing that? I mean are you using a set of "rabbit ears"? How are you pulling in the signal?

On another note I went to my local Futureshop to see if they had any units and sure enough they have 7. I looked on the Fshop website and they have a price of $568+tax. I didn't buy it. I wanted to get some more info from this awesome site. I went back today and noticed they sold one unit since yesterday, but now the price says it's $598.99. Went back to the website and it still states $568.00, instore only. Has anyone come across this yet?

Also if anyone has bought a 9200 at their local Futureshop, when you go to pay do they ask you for ID or any personal info? My buddy bought his 5900 a few months ago at bell world and he was asked to show his drivers licence and they took that info down. I ask because I split my buddies sub with him and I don't want to give any of my info to the salesperson. I just want to buy it and then have him call bell and activate it.

Cheers,
Chevy :D

I'm using a standard rooftop antenna and pulling in great HD. I read on another thread that someone in Montreal is using rabbit ears and pulling in HD channels.

Do us all a favour and PAY for your own subscription. Why should honest subscribers pick up the tab for your viewing?

By honest I mean it literally i.e. not using the service illegally without paying.

BEV like any corporation needs to cover it's costs and make a profit. The larger the pool of paying subscribers, the lower fees can potentially be for individual subscribers. So yes we all bear the burden of people ripping off subcriptions.

Is that what you "would" do or are doing? If you are doing this just curious what happens with the dpp twin on the 20"

This is what I would do with what he has/will have in hardware...Although I have wondered what would happen if a person used two Dpp-Twins on two separate dishes and one feed from each went into my DPP44! I do have two dishes on my house (an 18" not being used) and it is an interesting thought to geta stronger signal from 82, but would not like to lose my single cable feed to the 9200.
