Is there anyway to get the Blue leds rather then the orange? I liked how the 6000 reciever had a orange led for SD stuff and Blue for HD content. It seems with the 9200 the blue leds only come on if its in dual mode but I only want it in single mode.

Thanks, Hugh, but I'm looking for direct opinions.
I'll do reading when I can.

Thanks for the input.

Just got hooked up with our 9200 yesterday (long time expressvu customer, upgrading from a 5900 PVR). We got the following pricing/deal:

$100 for install
Credit of $100 (ie. zero install fee)
$20/month rental for receiver
Free HD for 6 months
$10/mth thereafter for HD.

Seemed pretty reasonable to me and just the hook to push me over the edge having bought a plasma last year. The tech came and did the install (looks like we now have a SW44 mounted on our dish), hooked up to TV, blah blah. Seemed to do a good job. The only thing was he kinda misled my wife about how it should be hooked up to the TV but I fixed that when I got home.

So far my review can be summed up with...

HD, WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN ALL MY LIFE? :)

No such luck. The leds are only meant to indicate: Global Tuner Power, Tuner 1 View On, Tuner 2 View On, Tuner 1 Recording and Tuner 2 Recording... There is no indication by LED to HD programming or SD programming.

Anyway...what's with all the problems with 9200? I've never had an issue in 1.5 years with my HDD/DVD recorder...

I don't want to rent, I'd rather buy, but for the money...if it is going to be problematic and WORSE STILL---have me missing shows!!! Then I fear I live in SD or... visit Star Choice.

I won't watch TV without a PVR. The Bell unit has some bugs, and some of them are maddening after having two Tivo boxes, but it works fairly well for me. Almost all of the time, I get the desired program recorded and get to watch it, and the experience is fine. It's important to get good signal to the unit, and to keep it cool (I use a laptop cooler, myself).

I've heard worse things about Star Choice, but I have neither direct experience nor recent information.

Put blue cels over the orange, or if you're looking for the real deal, cut the old ones free and solder in some blue LEDs.

Is it possible to have both tuners for the 9200 connect to a regular, non HDTV? From what I've been told, you must have an HDTV to record two shows at once, since one of the outputs must be in in HDTV, but I want to check.

You can only have one standard TV hooked up, so you can only watch one thing at a time. But you can record two things at a time, and have that going on while you watch one recorded show on your standard TV. So not having an HDTV only means you watch shows at lower quality.

I believe it is possible to connect each output of the 9200 to 2 different regular tv's or to 2 inputs of a regular tv. Just make sure the resolution of tuner 1 is set to the lowest. This may be the tricky part as it probably defaults to a higher resolution than the non-hd tv can handle so it may be hard to set up. I know the info is on the site here somewhere but I searched for about 10 minutes and couldn't find it. Keep searching and I'm sure you will find the answers.

Go to the HD setup in the menu and set the resolution to 480i. Then you can connect the component out connections from TV1 to an SD set in addtion to the existing TV2 SD connections.

Just make sure you do this with only TV2 hooked up first so not to damage a Non HDTV getting an incorrect signal before lowering the resolution on TV1.

Folks are of course right - if your SD TV has component video inputs, you can connect to TV1 at 480i or 480p if your set supports it.

Thanks a lot for the information, guys, I'll keep it in mind while talking to Bell.

I have a couple of other questions that I was hoping you might be able to answer.

1. Is it true that you'll need a bigger satellite or a new satellite if you upgrade your reciever?

2. Do you need two cables coming from the satellite into the box, or just one into the spliter into the 9200?

3. Does the 9200 (or any unit, for that matter) have the ability to control sound and mute directly through the reciever? For example, instead of the sound being turned down on the TV, the sound itself is turned down in the reciever. This is so that we can mute and turn down surround sound instead of turning down or muting the television.

Thanks for any information you guys can provide.

.

1. You will need at least a 20" dish with an Y-adapter and two LNB's to access the two satellites required to fully use a 9200. This can be installed by Expressvu perhaps for free depending on current promotions.

2. You will likely want 4 cables coming from the dish (2 from each LNB) to a SW-44 switch. You will need two outputs from the switch to go to the 9200 leaving 2 extra for additional receivers. This is the standard setup. There are other ways.

3. I don't think so but the Expressvu remote can be programmed to run either a TV or Receiver so you should be able to use it to mute the device you want. This is just my opinion however. Perhaps post what receiver you have and someone with a 9200 can try it out.

If I buy BEV's HD PVR can I ...
Plug in my HD OTA antenna?
Scan for my Toronto OTA channels?
Will they appear in the Guide?
Scan for my Buffalo & Rochester channels?
Will they appear in the Guide?
Will the Guide say whats on the OTA's or info N/A?

Thanks in advance... j

Hi JJJBBB,
Yes you can get all your OTA channels on the 9200, both digital and analog.
You can add them to the guide then add only the ones you want to your favorites. You can change the name to anything you want with only 4 characters. For instance, I changed WGRZ to NBC and changed CKXT to SUN.
You will get absolutely NO Guide info for the OTA channels. All it will say is digital service or analog/unknown service.
What i do is look up the program on the guide for satelite NBC east feed, then watch NBC WGRZ from buffalo OTA with no Simsubs. That way CTV or Global and ExpressVu can't screw up the program that i meant to watch from NBC.
You can also record or pause live OTA, but if you record it, it will have no program name, just the time and channel # of the recording.
Good Luck!!

Edit: I've read on here about people having problems recieving OTA while the satelite reciver is washed out with hard rain, but there is an easy work around for that. When the screen comes up "searching for satelite signal", hit the cancel button, then quickly enter the channel number of an OTA channel. Then you can go to guide and go to any OTA channel.

Thanks Tom, no one @ BEV could answer me... I suppose they did not want to as they seemed completely uninterested. This is what I needed to know. Simsubs was the greatest issue also Rochester and the 4 PBS and Buffalo's 3 PBS and so on. An uncompressed HD signal for all is sweet too.

I've searched around and believe I have the answer, but just to confirm: Right now there is no way to expand the hard drive capacity of the 9200 without opening the box. Is this correct? Thanks!

I can't test right now but if you've scanned for your analog and digital channels you should also be able to hit Menu then select the guide to go right to your OTA channels. THis may work by hitting the Guide button directly as well.

On another note...

I haven't tried recently but when I hooked analog cablevision to my reciever, it wouldn't recognize any channels higher than 13. It may have something to do with the fact I can't change the type of analog signal in the HD setup portion of the menu.

Anybody else seen this???

Exactly. And it's not confirmed even if you do open the box. you can replace the HD if you open the box, so theoretically have two hd's on the go, but I've never heard anyone able to use but a few select HD versions.
