Doesn't Toledo have one or two VHF lows? Might be an antenna issue, unless you have an array that has bothe VHF's and UHF. What are you using to receive those Toledo channels?

Yes, Toledo has 2 VHF stations

+1 on what alebowgm said... 11 is [16.9kW ND] and 13 is [14.6kW ND]. Antenna is operating fine. Using a good Winegard combo antenna (7084p) at 26 feet w/CM7777. Vhf gain specs are around the same as a WG YA1713 on highband VHF. (~10db)

Also, the 2 Vhf stations are around -0NM in tvfool due to terrain obstructions nearby. LOS would likely improve the signal enough to overcome most of the man made RF noise etc, but I can't get the antenna up to 150+ feet off the ground to find out. :(

As far as I can see from those who can receive VHF-lo+hi digital stations, almost nothing can totally eliminate dropouts and pixelation from lightning.. no matter how big their antenna rig may be.

toledo has three VHF's, actually... you're forgetting WLMB-DT on 5 (formerly 40). i happened to BRIEFLY get a glimpse of that one tonight! CHCH-TV-2 on 51's also booming in. it may as well be broadcasting from down the street. it's CLEAR!

Bring on the trop scat for the weekend. All Syracuse channels are starting to come in. Now if I only had the extra height and amplification.

Hopefully the warmer temps this weekend give us another shot at tropo.

I also had Syracuse last night--but not like the summer months.

Hey everybody!

I was eagerly awaiting this weekend after seeing the Hepburn tropo maps, but never expected anything like this!!! I came home about 2am from a friend's birthday party, turned on the TV to check tropo and noticed RF 15 was blinking on my Zenith DTT901 box. So when I put the antenna in "Cleveland/Detroit" position, Bad Axe, MI's WDCQ came in. Clicking around, I went to RF16 and my jaw DROPPED when Flint's WSMH (Fox) came in! Then I continued on and found Flint's WFUM (PBS) on RF28. I checked RF45 and then got WLLA from *Kalamazoo* Michigan!!! When those signals faded, Detroit rolled in with WDIV replacing WLLA on RF45, and WMYD coming in on RF21. I also picked up the usual Erie stations WICU on RF12 (I think I missed out on Flint's WJRT earlier, since I focused on the UHF stations that were coming in) and WQLN on RF50. Night seems to be ending back in closer tropo territory with Rochester's WXXI coming in on RF16.

So total shock and surprise and first time in awhile to get so many new stations in one shot! Makes me curious what I might have seen had I been home earlier! :) Keep those antennas flying in the next several days, as these warm temps may create some interesting tropo!

Talk about Tropo!

My intention was to possibly add Rochester... Got more than I bargained for I think.... :-)
This stomped all over CBLT-DT Toronto. Yes, I added Rochester plus Syracuse too.
Just Googled Callsign... Central NY.... Oh well...

I got hits on that too.
It is DT-47 and remaps to 5-1 out of SYRACUSE.

Good catch with OMNI still on RF 47.

I had a full slate from the Ottawa area, this morning, and then faced the array southwest to get the Buffalo channels in, at better than 60%. Nothing new, from this area, but many channels that I only get during the summer are all in this morning. I even had the low power FOX affiliate, on 35, from Watertown this morning, also. Watching the tropo maps, it should improve as the day goes by, here in southcentral Ontario.

rare as it gets, most of the low powered digital channels broadcasting from the CN Tower are coming in here in London. Actually I was able to pull in for the first time 25-1 CBLFT-D. huh, I even watched Mass in french for all of 5 mins there. I also am getting the usual Buffalo's and one station I have picked up before but cannot remember where the area is. It is 64-1 Ion and its sub channels. I am also getting 51-1 Ion too. lol
just swung too Cleveland and got remapping to 23-1 Ion.
You guys in London, hope you have your Dxing on......

ION on 64-1? the only station matching that is WQPX-DT Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania. they broadcast on UHF 32, though. great catch over the mountains, panamrk!

ah indeed, it is the Scranton,Pa Ion network. When I set my rotor to 110 degrees just shy of Buffalo direction @ 100 I have picked up some Scranton networks before so it makes sense.
Thanks for the leg work, I have been busy all weekend.

So I was watching "Patch Adams" last night on FOX 29 Buffalo, and the signal kept getting blasted away by another. So, without rotating, I did a scan and picked up a strong Detroit station on the same channel! This is the first time I've gotten Detroit. Needless to say, I rotated towards that direction, and grabbed all of these:

4.2 (RF45) WDIV Detroit
7.3 (RF7) WJBK (that VHF antenna of mine is already paying off) FOX Detroit
14.1 (RF14) WKBD CW50 Detroit
19.1 (RF15) WDCQ PBS Bay City, MI
19.2
19.3
19.4
20.1 (RF21) WMYD MYTV Detroit
25.2 (RF30) WEYI NBC Flint/Bay City, MI
25.3 (RF30) WEYI
35.1 (RF16) WSEE, CBS Erie, PA
35.2 (RF16) WBEP, CW, Erie, PA
56.1 (RF43) WTVS, PBS, Detroit.
61.1 (RF34) WQHS, (Spanish language), Cleveland, OH
62.1 (RF44) WWJ, CBS Detroit

Great Tropo here in the Belleville area tonight. WQLN out of Erie, PA, still getting many channels out of Ottawa. Also getting the Low Power Watertown FOX affiliate on 35. Also had a flicker of channel 42 out of Binghamton, NY, a new one for me. Couldn't get the camara rolling before it got away, but I'll continue to try and photo it. All Syracuse, Buffalo, Rochester locals in strong. CBLT off of the CN tower has been steady and stable all night. No super length tropo yet, but still scanning.

Hello! I actually posted this (below in quotes) this morning on dbstalk.com; turns out that you may have found the answer for me with the tropospheric conditions. Do you all think that's what I'm experiencing?

This evening, I've been able to get absolutely nothing other than a channel that is very nearby my home. Otherwise, I can't get channels in Atlanta (40 miles south), and I can't replicate my findings from 200 miles away this morning.

Any insight you all can provide would be greatly appreciated...

"Not a huge deal - really found money, if you will.

I had a set of powered rabbit ears that I hooked up to my new Samsung plasma. I am about 40 miles north of Atlanta, and I wanted to see if the rabbit ears would simply pick up Atlanta channels. I have really struggled in the past pulling in OTAs, but I haven't really tried in the past year or so - not a huge need.

Well, I went through and scanned, and I pulled about six channels of which I didn't recognize the call letters. So, I googled the results and I'm getting multiple channels (e.g. 15-1, 15-2, 15-3) from places like Montgomery (AL) Birmingham, Chattanooga, and Huntsville (AL). What makes it even more interesting is that I got nothing from my Atlanta channels. The cities I hit are from as far as 200+ miles away.

Now, I have a pretty good idea why this happened as far as hitting channels that aren't local and not hitting the ones nearby - the power is too strong to hit the locals. I get that part. I guess I'm just stunned by pulling in channels from hundreds of miles away!!!

Did the digital transition have anything to do with this? Any thoughts anyone?

Thanks in advance!
Jack"

panamark: you're welcome. it's been quite warm here this evening... i'm thinking if we have the right amoutn of luck, we could have skip like this going right to christmas!

dear, santa... all i want for christmas is some good wintertime tropo skip...

Anyway, UHF 42 is the digital signal of Binghamton's PBS affiliate, WSKG-TV.
