Even though I always get Toronto stations, most of them were coming into Kitchener at 100% for me last night; which is above normal. So I believe the conditions were strong from the East.

But getting them down in Windsor is impressive.

I installed a 4221HD for a client today in Mississauga. 403&ErinMills.
1st scan got more channels than Ive ever seen. WWNY 7.1 i think is watertown? And a 7.2 SD Fox?
+ we had everything from Buffalo, TO, Hamilton & Rochester. ABC Buffalo came in on 38.3, because 7.1 was already mapped to a different channel

Wierd...

looks like most of southern ontario got to tune into stations 200-300 km east of them for the night :P

Dang! looks like I wasn't alone at all in Sat mornings tropo! Crazy all over the southern part of the province it seems. Cold nights with warm air aloft makes perfect sense here. As of right now its warm and super humid now, compared to the almost late fall like conditions just one to two days ago.

Looks like Mark beat me with Cincinnati :o. I was just waiting hoping at least one channel from there would show but none did.

Here is the ch list with links below.
Most stations already seen aren't linked but are already in my DX gallery as well as all seen here:

You guys are putting me to shame with your amazing results! :)

Saturday was an amazing day for me here in Markham as well, but I was only able to snag two new stations - plus I finally got Watertown's WWTI to stay in long enough to capture some pics of local ads and logos!

The night started weirdly in the evening around 6:30-7pm where it seemed like tons of tropo stations were trying to come in, but nothing was really locking except Rochester's WXXI. Then I saw flickers on RF 15 and got WPSU's signal in only enough to get PSIP information. But only a bit later I got a wild burst of Cleveland, Ohio stations! I picked up a strong signal on WEWS (RF15), also got a nice burst of WQHS (RF34) and WKYC (RF17) but the surprise was picking up two stations I had never gotten before - WUAB on RF28, and WBNX on RF30! As with my previous experiences with Cleveland, the signals can bomb in (WEWS was at 79% at one point) but can fade quickly. My unscientific guess is that since Cleveland has to jump two lakes to get to Markham, it makes them more unstable than the Western / Central New York stations. But it was still a much better and extended look at these channels than I've ever seen before!

As the night went on Cleveland faded into a full burst of Rochester, with all their digital stations coming in, and soon some Erie, PA too with WICU/WBEP/WSEE on RF12 and WQLN on RF50.

Then even later, Utica NY started to come in very strong with WKTV on RF29 and even the weaker WUTR on RF30 coming in (this remapped WBNX from earlier in the evening!) But then came Watertown!!! I've found WWTI's signal on RF21 very hard to catch from my location and aside from once getting it long enough to get PSIP and a pixellated picture, I've only see flickers of it that won't lock. On Saturday it came in long enough for me to see local ads, logos and cheesy car infomercials (I was in tropo heaven!) I even saw a typo on their logo card for subchannel WWTI-2, which read "EWTI-DT"...heh....

And man, you guys have been posting AMAZING pics! Phil81, I loved looking at that treasure trove of tropo (especially rare catches like Lima!) And PanaMark as well, you've got some great great pics in your Flickr gallery - especially the weather subchannels, which I love to see! And PrinceLH, nice shots and cool that you got Utica's Fox on RF27! I've never been able to catch that one, even when I've gotten strong signals on WKTV and WUTR, because Global Peterborough on analog 27 is just too strong to get past (though oddly, I was able to pick up Jamestown's WNYB a few times over top of Global back when it was on RF27.)

x4mer, awesome catch on WEYI! I find it interesting that even though Markham and Stouffville are pretty close, our results sometimes can be quite different! (Also different setups too I suppose, but you've got a great location up there!)

PanaMark - you were mentioning a little while back about Pittsburgh stations maybe making their way to Markham. After recent surprises like Columbus Ohio being able to make it to my house, I think anything is possible....though only one of those channels would probably make it to me. RF25 is blocked by analog CBC French in Toronto, and RF43 is blocked by Buffalo's WNED (which seems tough to knock out.) RF48 is clear, so I hope to someday see the Pittsburgh CBS :)

Nice to see this explosion of tropo and hope we still get some decent days into the Fall/Winter to tide us over until Spring/Summer!

This morning was just crazy. I was trying to get the weather out of Syracuse. Having trouble, I decided to do a scan. Bingo, Philadelphia, PA, clocking in well over 400 miles away. Still scanning to see what's out there, this morning.

Thanks, Garth. I've been wondering about our different results in the past too.

As for PITT reaching here, I've got it once. A couple of years ago on Christmas Eve, receptions of out of market stations was nuts. It was my first time seeing Cleveland stations come in, if I remember correctly, but I also got a couple of stations out of PITT. WPXI 48 remapping to 11 for sure, & I think the other was WTAE 22 remapping to 4 (and that's a weak station).

Yeah, that was WCAU's weather channel. I was in such a hurry to see what was out there, I blurred that one. Here are a few more, including WNBC, out of New York. Unfortunately, I had to be at work for 11AM, but boy, that 9:30 - 10:30AM was intense.

i wonder if any of these would be contenders for that DXing contest we were having a couple months back... i know mine (WGTE and WEWS) would be easily beaten, and i couldn't get my camera to take a pic of CITY-TV, which would have been beaten anyway by panamark snagging WBNS from Columbus.... but i know WLVI, WCAU, and WNBC would be great contenders for longest DX... certainly with KWQC, too.

hi everyone,

i'm in toronto, lakeshore/kipling.

i grabbed my CM4112HD on saturday from save and play, seems like a great guy to deal with.

anyway, i guess i picked a pretty good couple of days to get it up - noticed i was getting way more channels than i thought - the 4221 is sitting inside on top of my window-mount a/c on the second story, approximately facing grand island.

i was going to ask why channels i was getting on the weekend at 100% were not even coming up at all anymore, but the previous posts from the last day or two explain that.

this site has been a great resource, can't wait to see what new results i'll get when the antenna is mounted outdoors and higher up.

Last night was warm and humid and I'm sure misty/foggy in areas. That kind of weather is quite detrimental to UHF OTA channels (which includes all of Buffalo).

Garth J had this channel as a (at the time the longest?) record post #1065 (http://www.digitalhome.ca/forum/showpost.php?p=972383&postcount=1065) (WMAQ Chicago). Someone else some months back had WSKY but couldn't get a picture for it.

My KWQC dx would likely be in the top 5 somewhere. PrinceLH ...well done. WNBC has got to be upwards of 425+ miles.

first of all I have downloaded the lastest version of Google Earth.
I use a really cool website to assist on what markets I like to research which is http://www.hdtvmagazine.com/programming/broadcast-market.php
from there I register myself and set my home position. After that I just pick a market that I might be able to receive during tropo and click on a particular station and it gives the exact distance and degree from your positon.

also when I do receive a new station I type in the call letters into a search engine and follow any link that bring you to their Wikpedia info. Most stations have the exact transmitter location within Wikpedia and when you click on the link your Google Earth opens up and voila, you know where the signal is being transmitted from.

I use the Hepburn tropo web site to help guage when there might be a possibilty to tropo.

don't be afraid to do rescans of digital only channels if your television allows it. For example my primary Dxing television is a Panasonic on account my Samsung does not allow for digital only scans for stations. With my Samsung when I rescan it erases previous stored stations which is crap. The trick I use is on my Samsung is I undo the OTA cable and do a scan. It comes up with zero channels found. You want this. (Keep in mind this only works if you have a Panasonic or Sony as a 2nd television ((some of us die harders do)).
Then when digital stations of being received on my Dxing television I just type the RF into my Samsung. This way I am able to use my rotor and download each markets stations.
Some set backs are when the same RF is assigned in a different markets.

use the right antenna for the job.

get as much height as possible.

stay out of the attic if possible.

With the Samsung there is a faster and simpler way to clear the memory. First dial in a channel that has nothing on it like channel 6 then start a scan… It will start from the last channel that was dialled in… channel 6 in our case… then as soon as it hits the next channel or 7 hit the exit button and that’s it… the memory is cleared.

Hey everybody!

Wowsa....on what may be the last good opening for awhile (I looked on Hepburn's site and the tropo seems to really nosedive towards the end of the month) I picked up Erie, Cleveland and Detroit stations all the same night!

Most of the signals were only in and out for a few minutes at a time. I first noticed WQLN (RF50) trying to come in and saw it for a few seconds off and on. Then i got WICU and its subchannels on RF12 for a few minutes. Then the tropo seemed to go cold, so I left it for a bit, but then noticed flickers on RF17. To my surprise I checked RF15 and WEWS from Cleveland raced in! Then I got a bit of WKYC on RF17 after that! Then when I thought that was it for the night's tropo, I noticed RF45 blinking, and eventually it bounced in as Detroit's WDIV! (Especially neat, since I'm going on a trip to Detroit this Friday!) I got to see about 15 min of their morning newscast. I also got WMYD on RF21 just briefly enough to see some infomercial about lawyers.

I ended the night with the market that I started with - Erie - and saw some of the WICU morning news before coming here to post my results. So my conclusion was that it was an erratic but fun DXing night (erratic, in the sense that many of the channels were fleeting and the tropo seemed to shift market to market without settling in one for very long....heh....)

As for the DXing distance records, I think we need to make a list of at least 10-20 of them, since there are so many amazing results we've all had :)
