At least while it's raining you can watch TV.... isnt that the cats whiskers :)

Rain can often make local reception better for chanels that are close to you.
The reception isn't really any better, but the interference is lessened.
For channels that are far away or on the fringe, rain will reduce signal significantly.

Yeah it could be that too, is there something, better cable or anything that cuts interference.

What is your location, marco77? What kind of antenna and other OTA gear are you using?

Don't be confused! Just as Stampeder asked, tell us what other equipment (ie tuner) besides the 4221. Maybe, you might have to reset the tuner (unplug for 5 minutes) or rescan. Check the wiring etc.
The low ceiling and dreary (BC type) weather we've been having is causing some pixilations. WB 49 was constantly breaking up here. But if you are not getting any signal, I can assure you OTA hasn't disappeared on you. We just have to figure out the cause.

...ever since that thunderstorm...I hope there wasn't a grounding problem. When there's lots of ionization in the air before, during, and after a thunderstorm, an antenna especially needs to be grounded well. I hope we can get to the bottom of the troubles you're experiencing.

Yes this is very true and it’s something most people don't really know much about. The main reason an antenna system is grounded is drain off ionization charges. Most think of grounding to protect against a lightning strike but really the ionization charges are more to worry about since they are the silent killer of your equipment. During the right conditions the antenna will collect charged ions and the charge will build up... at some point the charge will become too large and will suddenly dissipate to a ground... through your receiver if you’re not grounded properly. This could have happened. I would first start by replacing the balun on the antenna and check all your connectors... if you still have a problem you will need to take the receiver in for service.

Wow how about that a station from Syracuse taking out a Toronto digital station. The problem with digital TV is it doesn’t take much interference to knock out the digital station.

I've got an outdoor antenna on the roof, and there's something strange happening. I have look in the forum for the answer but people have exactely the opposite of me.

Whenever it rains my reception gets better but with analog and digital, with digital i go from 5 bars to 10 bars(SRCHD).

Can somebody explain this to me, my take is that there is probably something not well connected and the rains running down the wires makes it better, but i've check everything and can't find it.

Looks to me as an "antenna grounding problem".

I do have the same thing happening, it is not really when it is raining, it is when the soil is saturated with water that reception is better ( in my case also ). The soil where I live is mainly clay ( hard type of soil for rf reception ). I do need to put a ground rod of at least 10 foot deep, to make sure that the ground rod is still "soaking" in humid soil. Also helps on static accumulation on dry period. ( discharged units are a good thing also ).

Cheers,
mikelachaine

I discovered while getting my HDTV Wonder (more accurately the software) working that there are most definitely times when I can scan and get around a half-dozen extra transmitters from the US. For me it is usually after it's been raining over Lake Ontario and is starting to clear up. If it's been raining and suddenly turns sunny, I get amazing reception from the States (with my indoor antenna).

It ticked me off when I realized I was only gonna get those channels on special days...I get a zero signal on them most times, like they never existed.

After reading about Tricky's DXing experiences in Waterford, ON I kind of think that maybe there should be 2 categories of DT DXing results:

picture & audio lock holds for at least a few seconds
PSIP data received and correctly parsed but without #1

stampeder I would say having one is good enough.

There would be too much sub topics and the two points does relate o dsc so I would say its easier to have just one and all questions and topis is under one heading.

What I meant is that DXing has changed now that DT technology is here. I wasn't thinking about different threads or forums. I should have said that clearer. :)

This week has been a hot week for Dxing.

Did a quick install of my Toshiba tv this morning and with the antenna pointing the regular 170' for Buffalo was able to get Rochester at over 90% signal and Syracuse at 78% WSTM.

Maybe if I have time when I get home after work, I will move the antenna towards Syracuse and see if I can get more stations.

Here is a few shot from WB49 Buffalo and Rochester.
