Indeed lately has been great tropo activity. Last night and this morning
I managed to pick up 2-1, 7-1, 23-1 from Buffalo
24-1, 54-1, and 66-1 from Erie
3-1, 5-1, 17-1, 23-1, 43-1, 55-1, and 61-1 from Cleveland
27-1 from Youngstown
27-1 from Bowling Green
44-1 WOCU near Columbus
4-1, 62-1 from Detroit.

It was kinda cool to channel surf there last night with all if not most stations on at the same time. Some stations would drift in for a while then move out.

It continues to amaze me how the sides lobes of the Channel Master 4221HD can pull in channels in excess of 100 miles. Definaltely don't settle for anything but the best I say!....
Happy DXing guys

hey Garth Detroit from Markham is so sweet..............very nice pull.
I know the feeling when it comes in. unbelievable great job.

There was some activity last night but tonight it's much stronger.

Was watching WKYC 3-1 Cleveland when all of a sudden it faded out and stayed gone completely so I turned my combo antenna more to the east and got Erie, PA.

Seems like when one channel gets killed by tropo another comes in to replace it. In this case an NBC channel. Haven't seen WICU since they went HD! To bad the quality isn't so good now with two useless subchannels sucking down bandwidth

WICU-HD 12-1, WBEP-DT CW on 12-2, WSEE-DT CBS on 12-3 from Erie (132mi) Had full strength on it for hrs

Just after that I flipped around for a bit and when I hit another channel I had in psip (WEAO Pbs 49-1 in Akron) on RF 50, it erased that and in it's place was WQLN-HD Pbs 54-1,Cr on 2,SD on 3 This a first timer to show up here. Strength was weak.

Took pics of those two and their sub-channels and posted them up on my DX album http://s730.photobucket.com/albums/ww305/dxandmore/TV_DXing/

Others seen tonight around the same time.. (have seen before)

WLNS-DT 6-1 CBS Lansing-Jackson (great strength)
WJET-HD 24-1 ABC Erie (good to great strength)
WKBW-HD 7-1 ABC Buffalo (weak but stable)
WGRZ-HD 2-1 NBC Buffalo (great strength)
WNYO-HD 49-1 Buffalo (very weak)

Also was extremely close to getting (I'm guessing) WUTV FOX on RF 14 where WKBD-HD always dominates around here.

8.1 WICU Rochester
12.1 WICU Erie
12.2 WBEP and 12.3 WSEE Pittsburgh
21.1 WXXI Rochester
21.7 seemed to be audio only.
31.1 WUHF Rochester
54.1 WQLN Erie
66.1 WFXP Erie

I thought this was very cool.

I had Rochester coming in here at 100% between 9am & 10am this morning...

3.1 nbc
3.2 cw
3.3 weather
8.1 wroc

Very rare ! Must have been a whopper of a tropo event happening.

Pretty sure your 3.1/3.2/3.3 is from Syracuse and not Rochester.

WROC is from Rochester though.

WWTI DT 50.1 (RF 21) Watertown, booming into Kitchener this morning. This is the furthest station I've yet pulled in! Very exciting.

Conditions: Clear and cool (9c), no wind.

It's interesting to note .. that at the same time there are reports of very good TV reception in the general area of Southern Ontario and Northern NY State this morning, the weather Radar from those areas show anomalous propagation, ie false echoes. Seems same things are happening to the Radar as to the TV signals ( Ducting). My opinion anyways ..just an observation.

I'm finding William Hepburn's Worldwide Tropospheric Ducting Forecasts (http://www.dxinfocentre.com/tropo.html) fairly accurate up to a day or so.
Weather patterns change, so do the Tropo Ducting forecasts.
The website is updated daily around 2pm ET.

I was wondering what was going on lately. After a fantastic couple of days of strong signal strength from the Cleveland stations I was starting to get spoiled a bit. Of course as the tropo died so did the signals and away they went.
Yesterday I was getting nothing. Man,not even trusty WEWS-DT 5-1 from Cleveland felt like hitting the PISP.
I awoke to what I thought was the same thing until I seen 4-1 WDIV from Detroit hitting the PISP in my bedroom Samsung. I figured I would just quickly go on the roof and repoint the antenna towards the Detroit market since I figured I was picking it up from the side lobe of the 4221HD.
As I suspected the signal strength jumped to 100% on my Panasonic and all bars on my Samsung.
So I was channel surfing when as I went across the 55-1 WBNX-HD PISP it remapped to 25-1 WEYI-HD. Wow where is this from I was thinking.
It is an NBC affilate from Flint Mi, along with a sub channel for the CW network. It has been a while boy`s for me to see a new PISP.

I messed around pointing towards Buffalo market just in case I could pull the incredible feat that Jase pulled off by getting Watertown but no luck. I think it was much later in the morning and I used that tropo time towards another market.
Congrats on the great pick up Jase!
As I pointed towards each market this morning the usual suspects that have hit my PISP would come in and no new ones so I won`t wast your time.

Just nice to see something new for once.

ah for the heck of it....
this afternoon I was doing some house work and was flipping through the channels, and 4-1 WDIV from Detroit remapped to 45-1 WNEO-D1 from Alliance Ohio, just near Youngstown. It is Western Reserve PBS.

Do you like Barney anyone....

Great shots Panamark!
Yeah, no WEWS 5-1 all day yesterday, as predicted on William Hepburn's Worldwide Tropospheric Ducting Forecasts (http://www.dxinfocentre.com/tropo.html) website.
This Civic Holiday Monday afternoon, I'm not picking up anything (from Cleveland)... we'll all have to wait till about 2pm to see the next updated Tropo forecast, but as of about 12:30pm, it appears there won't be any Tropo effect in SW Ontario until around 8am ET tomorrow morning.

What are the winter effects for reception.
In last nights storms and haze, my setup saw NBC drop from 9 bars to as low as 4. Is this to be expected as the norm in the winter?

Winter tends to give lower but overall more stable signal levels. You don't get the wild propogation swings like you do in the warmer months.

WKTV, WUTR and WPNY all seem to be from Utica, NY which appears to be roughly 214 miles away. Not quite 330 miles, but a good pull nontheless.

According to today's Tropo Forecast @ William Hepburn's Worldwide Tropospheric Ducting Forecasts (http://www.dxinfocentre.com/tropo.html), starting this Sunday Aug 9, there will be a lot of Tropo effect in South Western Ontario. People will probably be able to easily pick up DTV signals from over 250 miles away!

Tropospheric Ducting has been non-existent in London/SW Ontario the past few days - I've picked up absolutely nothing.

I reported in an earlier post that I had recently DXed 25-1 WEYI-HD from Flint Mich. and its sub channel.
Well in the midst of an excellent Detroit network tropo yesterday (looks like it tonight too as WDIV as of 9:45 PM has rolled in) I managed my newest station.
WSMH-DT 66-1 showed its face in our neck of the woods for a short period there last night.
It was pretty late around 2ish in the morning (yeah I know what was I doing up) but none the less another fantastic find.
It is kinda weird to see two FOX affiliate stations both sharing 66-1 on my television. Both Flint Mi and Erie Pa are some of the few that did not go to Hi VHF like most of the other FOX's did.
I think this is kinda cool and unique.
I did not manage to grab a picture as I was lying in bed (trying to sleep) and was much to tired to grab a camera.
Happy Dxing
