Same as 'Goforit' , I'm @ 9th & Britannia and at 9:00pm lost ALL my Buffalo stations with the exception of 23.1 CW.

Now that was a 1st for me !
Same here. Even ION was coming in better than Buffalo!

Is it the case that the DX stations also use the same physical channels as Buffalo (eg. 14, 33, 38) and simply cause brutal co-channel interference?

Just did a scan and add channels...All Rochester channels came in strong, still didn't lose any existing channels.

Guys, better start re-scanning, chances like these don't come around often...

The dx devil hit again tonight 9 PM - BUF stations knocked out momentarily.

It sure did, but it wasn't as bad as last night. I'm only getting minor dropouts. I was getting Rochester's PBS loud and strong even though antenna is not pointed that way. That's pretty cool, I must say. :)

Didn't get much of a chance to watch anything last night - was modifying my ductwork and I had to close it up so I could start the AC - it was a hot couple of days. Anyhoo I noticed 2.1 was a bit stronger tonight so I scanned and picked up 49.1 WNYO for the first time. The tuner seemed to pause on channels 13 and 16 but didn't include them. My TV Fool doesn't list a channel 13 so I wonder what that was. It was the first time I got any sign of picking up a VHF signal. 16 is WXXI, a PBS station 104 miles away! Pretty darn cool.

My antenna is in the attic, and I hope to move it up to the roof later this year. Other projects are waiting, so this will take a back seat for now.

Good tropo this morning. Albany NY, to Belleville, Ontario, about 225 miles. Also Utica at about 150 miles. Using a Winegard PR8800, YA1713 and CM7777 preamp.

Prince LH - nice catch with the WTEN . I grabbed that one too a
few weeks back.
I was going to try SE this morning, but left it pointed to the west.
We may be able to log some western MASS stations if this keeps up!
Cheers.

Those of you using PC-based ATSC tuners can of course dump a screenshot, but for folks using internal tuners or external boxes on their TVs here are a couple of photo tips:

I noticed one of PrinceLH's photos shows the "freeze" caption on the screen - my Sony HDTV has that feature too so I'd suggest using that if you've got it
turn off/block the camera's flash
Any other screen photo tips?

I use a Fuji digital camera that I always keep with fresh recharged batteries and a decent sized memory card.
You never know when a Dxing channel will occur.

I may try some of those too. Right now, I think that I'll try to grab those Binghamton NY stations. No luck as of yet, but still trying. Unfortunately, they have two VHF low channels, as well as two VHF high channels. There are two other UHF's, but looks like low power channels. I wonder about the Vermont channels, as well.

Abbie, nice catch on WQLN. I knew if I could get it with an indoor antenna, someone should be able to catch it with an outdoor.

JUST SAW A PICTURE BEFORE IT WAS GONE...

I WAS IN THE COTTAGE, IN THE LAURENTIANS MOUNTAINS, east of STE-ADELE, AND WSKY-DT IS BROADCASTING FROM THE HAMPTON'S, NEAR VIRGINIA BEACH, AT 12 KW erp !

The Hamptons are resort areas located on the hills of eastern Long Island.. I think you meant "Hampton Roads" (Norfolk-Virginia Beach metro area). Still, awesome catch! Must be E-Skip becuase that's at least a thousand miles....

That may have been the latest 2009 DX derby record. Too bad a camera wasn't available. Could of had long bragging rights there!

Yes, it was in the Norfolk-Virginia Beach metro area...
I will keep my camera near next week end, hope that E-Skip will come back sooner or later this summer....

My place in the Laurentians 46-4-49 N 74-2-50 W

WSKY transmitter, according to FCC 36-31-14.45 N 76-18-16.22 W

around 1,079 KM ! but no proof :(

RingtailedFox

you mean no verifiable proof, because you had PSIP data to show you which station it was. That's ok, though.

2009-06-29, 02:39 PM
Ya, but i did another scan in the afternoon, and ...it erased the data....
but i'm confident that it will bounce again this summer..my camera will be ready ...now that i know that is something to catch on digital ch. 4...

BTW, my cottage is at 1,300 feet above the sea level ....

Sunday morning I finally was able to pull in WSYR Syracuse (150 miles) with my home made DB4 (wood and coat hangers) standing in the middle of my home office. Lasted for a little while then disappeared. I do have a pic, but I know it's no record. I had previously received WSTM from Syracuse before they moved from digital 54.

Also managed to get WQLN, Erie (134 miles) one day but didn't get a picture. It should show up again.

Not too bad for something that cost me $20 (including the amp) to make.
