This morning I did a re-scan and picked up TBN from Jamestown, at a surprisingly high signal strength, as it is currently at 99%. Very good reception last night, and this morning - around midnight yesterday I even got a very snowy glimpse of WROC analog out of Rochester! :p

I also was lucky enough to catch Rochester early today in the afternoon. I couldn't believe I could catch it all the way from Markham. I even took pics of the stations I was getting (will add them to my TV blog soon.) I got 8-1 WROC, 10-1 WHEC, 10-2 WHEC-DT (Weather), 13-1 WHAM, 13-2 CW-WHAM, and 21-1 WXXI (3 PBS). This was around 12:30-1:30pm. Then in the evening when I got home from work, only WXXI was still coming in but faded out after midnight. I wonder if the Tropo takes time to reach certain areas because some of you guys mentioned getting them last night where mine only came in this afternoon over here! I also noticed massive fluxuations in my Buffalo reception yesterday night. (2-1, 4-1, & 7-1 all going from strong to zero within minutes and going back and forth like that late last night.)

i was surprised to receive rochester stations as well yesterday, with a Philips MANT510 indoor antenna,my apt faces north, but i think my approximity to the lake (1 mile north) has alot to do with it.the only station i didnt receive was wham, but i did pick up wuhf31 fox last night ,that lasted for about an hour.one thing that really had me scratching my head was my strongest channel that i always get, wnyo 23,was non existent yesterday.

Dxing is quite interesting and fun to experience, however it also is a very undesirable condition of DTV that at times renders regular/reliable viewing unstable. During periods of freak reception of distant stations, some of the local stations are overpowered.

Today I'm getting Cleveland Fox8 on 8.1 and it is killing out wgrz 2.1. Earlier this morning I had another Ohio station 55.1 and it was killing wivb 4.1. I usually get 49.1 mytv, but it drops off whenever distant stations drift in to this viewing area.

Dtv has a long way to go to before it will become as stable as analog was.

What's up with wutv? It seems very weak tonight- in and out. wnyo is just fine- rock solid. Aren't they off the same transmitter, and wutv is supposed to be 1000kw vs. 75kw for wnyo (both are southern directional)- what gives?

wutv is fine for me...but wgrz is dropping out a lot today....again. I wish they would just increase their power.

I stand corrected...my apologies. I am watching wutv and it is failing me as well.

WUTV and WNLO are failing for me as well in Burlington. I haven't missed a recordng in three weeks despite a varety of weather condtions, but tonight is very odd. Is it weather related?

I'm in Burlington too (Walkers and Dundas) and Fox has been a pain the past few days for me too. It's in and out with a bad signal. I was lucky to watch next week's preview for 24 on Fox (Global's preview sucks), but it was coming in and out.

I was hoping that Fox would improve after shutting down analog, but that's obviously not the case yet.

Fox has always been the most difficult channel for me to get ever since I set up my antenna in the fall. All the other Buffalo stations are mostly rock solid with no issues.

Lake Erie is still pretty well frozen over. With these milder temps over the past few days and the strong sunlight, there has been a lot of rolling surface fog moving north east across the lakes. I believe this may account for some of the fading of Buffalo and Erie PA broadcasts. When the Buffalo or Erie PA broadcast signals fade in my area, all of Toronto stations suddenly boom in here at 100%.

How long do these periods of Weird Weather / Abnormal Reception usually last?

Yes WUTV-dt was weak 50% during American Idol but no drops.WNYO-dt was droping out. This weather related and occurs when warm air comes over the lakes.Blame our Canadian regulators for those directional antennas.Funny how its okay for the Toronto stations to have omni patterns except City-tv has a slight directional. Both WNLO-dt and WNED-dt remain at 100% during the same time as WNYO,WUTV get weak and they all come from Grand Island towers sites.Maybe WUTV should request directional antennas for those CN Tower transmitters when CFTO,Global etc want to move back to their existing analog frequencies at full power.Whats fair for one side is fair for the other.

I was actually receiving WNLO, all the way to Belleville tonight. Still not seeing WUTV, however.
