The DX season started last night for me with all Rochester stations very strong with the antenna facing buffalo (except WUHF).

Also lost WGRZ for the first time since last fall - let the games begin.

ya i was getting Rochester this morning, got locks on WIIX, WUHF, and the ABC Station

Its tought though because of the analog channels on some of these frequencies. I'm always getting SUNTV on 45 from Hamilton, and TVO on 28 from London area. This makes it very difficult to get these channels, perhaps if they shut off those analog transmitters i'd get rochester on a regular basis.

what happened to 31-2 The Tube?

The tube went off because of lack of compliance with the emergency broadcast system.

Well The Tube as a network is still on the air.

I was lucky enough to pick up WSTM (Syracuse) last night with my home made antenna and was watching The Tube on 3-4.

Guess conditions were right.

Whitby to Syracuse is 155 miles according to 2150.com.

I did email to ask The Tube about what happened with the feed out of Rochester and they said Sinclair killed that at the end of 2006. They said they are looking for someone else to pick them up in the area. Too bad no one in Buffalo has picked them up.

The skip was good last night in Ottawa. Before going to bed last night I noticed that our bedroom TV was getting a good picture on analog 7 and 50 from Watertown with my omnidirectinal antenna. I wish I had tried to see if I could pick up some Syracuse stations. Those with a good antenna were probably picking up stations in NYC? ;)

Using a Radio Shack, amplified 1bay UHF indoor antenna with Rabbit ears.

Not getting much of anything out of Syracuse tonight (I did see 3-1 and its subfeeds, but it didn't last long) but I am getting out of Buffalo and Rochester, the following stations.

2-1 WGRZ-HD
2-2 WGRZ-SD
4-1 WIVB-HD
8-1 WROC
13-1 WHAM
13-2 CW-WHAM

Not too shaby a night. Most of the analogue stations were coming in clear and strong. I was even able to hear Global out of Peterborough on 27.

WGRZ from Buffalo in Kingston ?!?!? Wow ! People from Buffalo are jealous.

Might have been tropo/DX.

Good work. Let us know if you continue to get it on a regular basis

Definitely skip or ducting - see the June 7 forecast for eastern North America and it shows Kingston in the centre of a slight jump in activity:

http://www.dxinfocentre.com/tropo.html

June 10th and 11th look like they'll have a wee bit of a boost for Eastern Ontario as well.

From Whitby this morning (6:30am) I had my second glimpse of meter movement on a Syracuse station (WNYS 43-1) but couldn't get picture. I was also able to get WSTM (3-1) for the second time.

June 10th and 11th look like they'll have a wee bit of a boost for Eastern Ontario as well.

The 9th looks like it could be very promising for most of southern/central Ontario!

I'll be scanning that day for sure. Hoping to pull in something different like Erie, PA.

Last night (and again this morning), here's my DT lineup, right from Ottawa:

(25) 04-01 CBOT-DT HD CBC
(22) 09-01 CBOFT-D HD SRC

(23) 18-01 WNPI-DT PBS - Norwood, NY
(35) 07-01 WWNY-DT HD CBS - Carthage, NY
(35) 07-02 WNYF-SD FOX - Watertown, NY
(21) 50-01 WWTI-DT HD ABC - Watertown, NY
(21) 50-02 WWTI-2 CW - Watertown, NY

Pretty cool!

My boxes could not get a lock on WPBS (41).

I didn't want to turn the antenna (and loose the angle) to check just for WCAX.

On top of

(25) 04-01 CBOT-DT HD CBC
(22) 09-01 CBOFT-D HD SRC
(23) 18-01 WNPI-DT PBS - Norwood, NY

and the occasional,
(46) 46-01 ??

am I the only one seeing these, since at least Sunday?

Usually after 11:00 pm, until 8:30 am
(35) 07-01 WWNY-DT HD CBS - Carthage, NY
(35) 07-02 WNYF-SD FOX - Watertown, NY

After 11:30 pm, gone before 8:00 am
(21) 50-01 WWTI-DT HD ABC - Watertown, NY
(21) 50-02 WWTI-2 CW - Watertown, NY

My boxes can't get a lock on WPBS (41).

We should convince the CRTC to allow those stations WWNY and WWTI to boost their respective signal.

We should convince the CRTC to allow those stations WWNY and WWTI to boost their respective signal. That approval would have to come from Industry Canada, not the CRTC.

how do we get the ball going? Then WWNY could stop the directional broadcasting.

I wonder if CBOFT (22) is impeding on WWTI (21).
I also wonder if CBOFT (22) is impeding on WNPI (23).

Heck, isn't the spectrum big enough?

21 - WWTI-DT
22 - CBOFT-DT (to revert to 9?)
23 - WNPI-DT (to revert to 18)
24 - TVO
25 - CBOT-DT
26 - CBC Smitts Falls

We should convince the CRTC to allow those stations WWNY and WWTI to boost their respective signal.

WWNY-DT is directional to the south (apparently to protect against adjacent channel interference on CKWS-TV-3 in Smiths Falls) and has already increased their power so another increase isn't likely until after the analog shutdown. After the analog shutdown, WWNY-DT/WNYF-DT will revert to channel 7 and will have the same (if not better) coverage as the analog station and should be receivable in many parts of Ottawa.

As for WWTI, I asked them about this, and they don't seem interested in increasing their power.

21 - WWTI-DT
22 - CBOFT-DT (to revert to 9?)
23 - WNPI-DT (to revert to 18)
24 - TVO
25 - CBOT-DT
26 - CBC Smitts Falls

Don't forget the following allocations (the latter is licensed to broadcast):

20 - CICO-DT (TVO)
27 - CFMT-DT-2

WNPI-DT is not reverting to 18, according to both an e-mail I received from the station and the DTV Tentative Channel Designations (http://hraunfoss.fcc.gov/edocs_public/attachmatch/DA-06-1082A2.pdf), they will stay on 23 after the analog shutdown. It is likely that either CBOFT or CBOT will revert to 9 after the analog shutdown however.

Also, it is CKWS-TV-2 (Prescott) on 26. CKWS-TV-3 (Smiths Falls) is on 36.

I've been seeing the Watertown stations occasionally since the warm weather started.
I can usually get 16-1 (WPBS on 41) all little better than 7-x on 35.

Last night I also picked up WNYS on 44 and WSYT on 19 from Syracuse.
I also got signals on 47 WSTM and 54 WTVH, but not enough to get a picture.
