: 9200 / 9242 / 9241 Installation 101
scrooloose 2007-12-28, 09:06 PM The SW44's are readily available here, although you might find one cheaper off Ebay. Any of the stores that sell BEV products are likely to have one (including the Bell stores).
If your four lines don't all enter the house at the same spot, mounting the SW44 at the dish might be the best way to go.

Beezer 2007-12-28, 09:27 PM Well I found a few on ebay.
One is a NIB SW44 w/power inserter & power supply for $45.00 Cnd plus $15.00 shipping, the other is a complete 20" dish kit with 2 dual LNBF's and the SW44 plus power inserter & power supply for $99 US + $20 US shipping and finally an Expressvu upgrade kit that comes with the SW44, inserter, power supply, one Dual LNBF and a $90 programming credit all for $59.00 CND with $17 shipping fee. All three are located in Canada. The dish combo is a good deal but since I jusy bought a new dish recently I really only need the SW44 with inserter.
Nimiq 1 2007-12-28, 09:41 PM If you are going to get an HD receiver then why not get Express Vu to do a free installation for you.?
Beezer 2007-12-28, 10:14 PM Well my first and last experience I had with the BEV installers that came out was not very favourable. The guys that came out had told me that they would not run the cables inside the houses. They would only run them along the oustide and only go through the house at the location of the TV. After they left I pulled the cable out and ran it inside through the basment along the floor joists. It seems to be some policy not to run cables through the house unless you want to pay extra. Not sure if that is a BEV policy or particular to each installer contracted. At least that is feeling I got when I spoke to the installers. They also would not mount the dish on chimney where I wanted in the first place. Had to settle for the wall at the front of the house. I should have sent them away, once I saw them pull up in a Mercedes with one of those folding ladders in the trunk, and asked for a more prepared installer to come out.
If I want the cables to be run in a particular location I am better of doing it myself since I have run enough wire and cable in the house already to know the best way to do it in my house.
Nimiq 1 2007-12-28, 10:24 PM Wow, that is odd. To not run cables in a basement is crazy, it's easier than outside and in a Merc, well I know most of the guys that do Brampton, indirectly, I do not know any that drive a Merc.
Chances are you will NOT get the same guys anyway.
Beezer 2007-12-28, 10:33 PM Well if I recall these guys came from Markham or Richmond Hill. They explained that Brampton was not their normal area but there was some sort of shortage of local installer at that time due to a high volume of installs being done. Do you know if the Free installation includes all the coax that they would need to run from the dish to the HD receiver? If it does it might not be a bad idea then. I am assuming it would not include the SW44 switch?
Thanks :D
Nimiq 1 2007-12-28, 11:43 PM Ah, that explains it, it most have been about 3 years ago, roughly......
It will include EVERYTHING, New Dish, 2nd LNBF, SW44 if required, all cables etc.
This is a Promo that has been going for quite some time and to qualify the only stipulation is that currently you do NOT have any programming from Nimiq 2.
MyBEV9200HD 2008-01-01, 06:00 PM In response to 1233, 1234, 1235,
Hi - I changed the cable 2x and I'm still getting the same error message. Tuner 1 is still working fine - I get all my channels. But Checkswitch still tells me that I have no signal from Satellite 2. I changed the cable from the grounding bracket 2x - this cable was the only thing changed from the original configuration.
Is it possible that this is a switch problem? If so, is it worth it to get BEV to come in and take a look? Or is it reasonable to think that if I repalced the switch, this would be solved. I saw an SW44 Combo Switch on Ebay (from MX-MART for $24.96 + $19.99 shipping). Any idea's as to whether or not this solution would work?
vaillan57 2008-01-01, 07:32 PM Me too,I would like to know if that combo works good
Nimiq 1 2008-01-02, 08:11 AM Can you PM me the E-Bay Number I will have a look.
Beezer 2008-01-02, 04:15 PM I looked at that SW44 switch from the same seller but noticed it didn't come with the power inserter module and power supply so I bought from another seller that included those items. Cost $45 + $15 shipping.
Doesn't the SW44 have to be powered to function properly??
Nimiq 1 2008-01-02, 08:19 PM Yes, it will not function without.
mainjet 2008-01-20, 12:13 AM okay i have a question just got the bell 9242 reciever and i only ran two cables to the dish i only have one reciever and dont have any plans to get a second. ran the cables to the supplyed sw44 and the up to the reciever 95% on 91 and 82% on 82 so what am i missing do i still need 4 cables up to the dish or is this fine for one reciever?
thanks in advance
Tom.F.1 2008-01-20, 01:31 AM Mainjet, yes you need 4 cables from the dishes LNB's to the SW44.
Why you ask?
There are 2 signals from each satelite. LHCP & RHCP, one is even and the other odd transponders. It stops the odd and even frequencies next door to each other, from interfering with each other. (Intermodulation is a bad thing) To make them all available to each tuner, all 4 have to be active all the time. Otherwise, changing channels on one tuner could interupt the other tuner.
The way around 4 cables from the dish or 2 cables to each reciever is Dishpro. Dishpro equipment stacks the even's on top of the odd's. Upside down!
The problem there is then you need good RG6 that will handle 2.25 GHz and still it has problems at 200 ft. Poor installations and any wet or corroded connectors are going to show up as a problem sooner on DPP than on legacy.
Thats why bell sticks with the legacy equipment.
mainjet 2008-01-20, 01:36 PM thank you for the answer that make sense now .one more question can I run it the way it is with only two cables to the dish its - 21 here right now so it makes running cable hard broke one of the cables yesterday while hooking it up from the cold, just want to make sure I am not going to damage anything if I leave it this way for a few days free channels seem to work fine have not activated yet
cyberphil 2008-01-20, 05:07 PM Hello and sorry, i'm sure everything that i want to ask has been answer somewhere in this thread but it is so long now that i can't seem to find the answer for my question...
Presently i have 1 receiver ; a 5900 and i will buy the 9242 some time in the future and i want to make my installation ready for it. I got 2 wires that goes from my antenna to my basement. One is presently used to power my 5900 and the other is not used presently. (Precision, i am wire with RG6 cable all the way)
I saw at the beginning of the thread that i can buy a Dishpro Plus Twin LNBF with a Dishpro Plus Seperator to use only 1 wire to power the 9242. But these thing aren't sold by Express Vu and i must buy them from ebay or another Dish Store. If i get this right, The DISHPRO LNBF will replace my existing LNBF and i will be able to use my 2 existing wire. Will my 5900 work if i use only the DishPro LNBF for some time ?
There seems to be a SW44 switch sold with the 9242. If i use this, i need to add 2 more wires from the antenna to my basement (it need a total of 4 wires from the antenna) and i need to add another wire to where i will put the 9242 receiver because it need 2 and i presently just have one with my 5900.
Am i right with this ?
What is the main advantage of using the SW44... Seem that everyone is talking about this one instead of using de DISHPRO stuff ???
I also read that there could be some problem with the DISHPRO stock... Is that right ?
Thank !
scrooloose 2008-01-20, 05:31 PM The Dishpro equipment isn't sold or supported by BEV, that's why most don't use it. Plus, the 9242 includes an SW44 switch, so for most people it's cheaper to use what's supplied. Your assumptions about the Dishpro Plus equipment are correct however.
You could mount the SW44 on the back of the dish, then run whatever lines you need inside. If you only had one receiver, that might be easier, but in your case it sounds like you want three tuners active so that's three cables. Usually it's the inside wiring that's the problem anyway.
It's on everyone's wish list that BEV switches to Dishpro Plus equipment. I think they could increase their HD viewers if they did. At least they could offer it as an option.
-Mike
I'm running DPP equipment with my 5900 and 9242 right now without any problems. The 9242 only needs one line because I am using a DPP seperator to feed the two tuners.

Buy the DishPro Plus Twin and seperator on ebay and sell the SW44 to cover the cost. The 5900 will work fine.
905shmick 2008-01-21, 06:23 PM Will a 9242 work with a single LNB pointed at 82W?
I ask because I'm looking to take my 9242 to a friends place to watch superbowl and he's got an old Expressvu dish pointing at 91W and if it's possible, we'll just re-point it to 82W and connect to 1 of the 2 inputs on the 9242.
