The manual that comes with the SW44 that I got with the 9242 says that I can add splitters to give me up to 8 receivers. Is this all I need to do?

I just got home and looked at the dish. It's really 2 dual lnbfs with the switch inside the house.

OK, assuming it's an SW44, you can combine it with your new SW44 to support a maximum of 8 tuners. You would have to buy 4 high-frequency splitters (available at places like Home Depot or The Source) and you'd need to buy or make a bunch of short coax patch cables to wire them up. Your SW44 should have come with a booklet entitled "SW44 Multi-Dish Switch Installation Guide". Page 11 of that Guide states the requirements for the splitters, and Page 12 has the wiring diagram.

If that seems like too much of a hassle, I'd recommend the solution that taxtwit described in his/her first reply to you.

[Oops, I was composing my message while you posted your last question. Consider it a longwinded way to answer "yes".]

Thanks everyone. I'll try the splitter option to see how that goes. I'll let you all know whether it works or not.

Thanks again for all the help.

Just got a 9242 from Bell and I need some opinions on the setup of the dual tuner.

Previously I had a 6100 (HD) and a 3100(SD) receivers, two cable running into the house. After some inspection of the previous tech's work from when I got the HD, he has one cable directly connected to the one LBN (91) running directly into the house, the other has a cable running from each LBN (82&91)into a sw21 switch, from there the cable runs into the house.

I setup the SW44 switch to replace the SW21 and connected a cable from each of the existing LBN's (two cables on each) to the SW44 switch, then connected the SW44 to the two cables running into the house.

inside the house, I removed the 3100 receiver and connected the cable into the second tuner port on the 9242. here is where the issue comes in, the system setup detected the SW44 switch, but told me there was no communication from the satellite, then went on to tell me "ports 2 is not even". I went back and checked the switch, ports 1 (A&B) are coming from the one LBN and ports 2 (A&B) were coming from the other LBN, physically everything looked right.

when I ran the setup again on the 9242 it showed green on port 1 (91) of the 1st tuner and red on all the other two (port 2 (82) on tuner 1 and Port 1 (91) of tuner 2) and showed nothing on port 2 of tuner two.

Any help would be appreciated. In the end I would like to get the two tuners on the 9242 hooked up and the 3100 (single) also, but for the 3100 I believe I will have to run another line in to the house

Thanks All..!!

You will need another line for the 3100
Is the power inserter (little silver box) plugged into the line that is on port 1 of the SW44 switch?
Don't bother messing with the alignment of the dish, as it was aimed properly, seeing as your 6100 was working fine
It sounds like the sw44 is not hooked up correctly, or it is faulty (quite common)
Make sure it is connected properly
2 lines from 82, 2 lines from 91, hooked up to the switch ports (connect them up the same way you would hook up the receivers, ie: follow the port numbering on the outputs)
I hope I am not confusing you, but it sounds like you hooked up the switch like I did for a friend (82 was on port 1 and 3, instead of 1 and 2)
Good luck, and let us know if you get it going

I hooked up the cables together from each LBN, the two together from each of the LBN (e.g. 1&2 (1a, 1b) were from the 91, 3&4 (2a, 2b) were from the 82). the power inverter was on 1 of the two lines that came in the house, I woudl have to check again to ensur eit was on 1 but I belive it was. does this inverter make a difference if it is on the 2 cable instead of ine...? again I would have to check but pretty sure it was on 1.

thanks

Power inserter MUST be feeding Port #1 of the switch.

Check the jumpers from LNBF's to the SW44, if you are using the ones that may have come with the SW44 these have a very high failure rate as they are mass produced garbage. Check the center pins for insulation, check for small strands of shielding across from outer to inner, very common.

If it all looks OK and you are still getting a failed Check Switch, use your 3100 or 6100 and check each line in turn, directly from LNBF to 3100 or 6100, with NO SW44 in the equation, this will at least prove your lines, after that you may have a defective SW44 or Power Inserter.

Hi, I'm a newbie with this fantastic thing call HD. Here's my setup:
1- 20" dish, with 2 dual LNB's, a sw44 and power inserter and a 9242 receiver which I want to use for 2 tv's, 1 in Mstr Bedroom(remote Tv), 1 down(9242 home), and I'd like to run a 6100 in the sitting room upstairs. All my rooms have a connection outlet(coax). Here's where I get confused, I have 4 wires coming in to my sw44 in cable room(Furnace), I have 91 in 1B & 1A, 82 in 2B & 2A, on the other side of sw44, I have the power inserter in slot 1 and then off to downstairs wall jack, #2 I have no way of getting it to the receiver as there's only 1 jack in that room, do i need a splitter somewhere? how do I get 3 Tv's to work off of 2 receivers. I may need a step by step explanation before I get divorced.

I also have a ch 21-69 attentator(what and where is it used)?

#2 I have no way of getting it to the receiver as there's only 1 jack in that room,

If you want to run a 9242 with standard LNBF's and an SW44 you NEED a second line to it. (regardless of where it is going).

how do I get 3 Tv's to work off of 2 receivers

Is this really your question.? Or are you wanting to know how to hook up the 6100.?

The 9242 will feed 2 TV's at the same time, the 6100 will feed 1, so thats the 3 TV's fed from 2 receivers.....

I also have a ch 21-69 attenuator(what and where is it used)?

Is this something you bought, or are you referring to the attenuator built into the 9242.?

No offense meant here but if this is your first encounter with Express Vu, why not let them carry out a free installation for you.?

No offence taken, I would have taken the free basic installation but i already opened the box and they stated if the box was opened that i would have to pay for basic installation, and it would be 3 weeks for a technichan and i'd like to have all 3 working for Xmas and i've set up many 2700-3100 receivers so I thought i'd give it a go! My house had both a new dish and old dish on the roof so I thought this should be easy!

I have the 6100 working great, the 9242 works great, but I can't get the remote TV to work now.

For the 2 wires to the 9242, I have the one going to the Sat 1 in, where does the second go? into the Sat 2? It's not really a second sat so this confuses me, is that where it should go? .

Then to connect the remote TV to the receiver, the coax from the remote TV goes from my bedroom to my sw44 or do I just split it somewhere? to which input on the back does the co-ax go to?

also the attentuator was in the box from Bell, i purchased this yesterday from a Bell store!

To make this easy on me, How many co-ax are plugged into the 9242 from the sw44, I'm assuming 2, which port do they screw into? Sat 1 and sat 2? if so, where does the remote tv get it's feed from , the ch21-69 port? If you can tell me how many co-ax into the receiver and if i'm supposed to have 3 out of the sw-44., 1 is power inserter with coax to sat 1? 2 is to receiver(which port) and the 3 is for the 6100.

Yes, you need feeds from the SW44 to BOTH Sat "in's".

The remote TV is fed from the Agile Modulated output at the rear of the 9242, it then needs a direct run to the second TV.

http://i204.photobucket.com/albums/bb213/Nimiq_1/92426100.jpg

Without the use of Diplexer's, you really need 3 cables to the 9242, 9200, 5200 & 3200, two for the feeds and one for the backfeed out to TV#2.

You can totally IGNORE the attenuator. I am almost 110% confident you will not need it......lol

Checkswitch shows no signal for Satellite2, but...I'm still getting all my channels (I think) I'm hoping someone can help me out. Here's the scoop...

My 9200 was working until I unhooked it due to some renovations. I relocated my PVR to another room, hooked it up to my VCR and to an old TV as my other TV broke. I don't know how I did this, but now, everytime I turn on my receiver, I get error message 505, telling me that either my connection is wron or that I'm not recieving a signal. If I follow the instructions from there, it takes me to the checkswitch test showing me that SAT1 is fine receivng both 91 and 82 on SW44, but SAT2 has nothing, just a red X indicating that there's no signal on SAT2.

Alternatively, if I just press CANCEL, and then GUIDE from the time I see the error message, it brings me to the actual program guide and I can start watching TV - I get all my channels (I think).

Does anyone know what I'm doing wrong? I didn't touch the SW44, only relocated my PVR, extended the COAX from the grounding bar and possibly changed some a setting somewhere.

If anyone can tell me how to get rid of the error message everytime I turn on my PVR, I would appreciate it. BEV told me that it has to do with the connection between the switch and the receiver - I would be inclined to beleive them but I am getting my channels.

HELP ME! :(

there are 2 sat tuners in the receiver. They are labeled SAT1 and SAT2.

each tuner needs both polarities from both satelites

your cable from the sw44 for SAT2 tuner is NFG.

knowing now the power inserter must be on cable one, does it matter where psyically on cable 1 it goes? does it have to be up close to the SW44 switch or can it be anywhere on that line (a.k.a. where the cable ends in the room with the 3100 reciever)

Nimiq1, thank you for the heaads up on the jumper cables....I did have one with the sheilding touching centre, I simply made one up for it myself that is good.

thanks

I always recomend placing the Power Inserter behind the Main receiver, that way when the main receiver is powered, so is the SW44....

Glad my tip helped.

Hello everyone. I'm new to the forum and chose to make my first post in this thread since it relates to an issue I am having.

I am a current BEV customer and planning to get a HDTV PVR in the near future but could use some advise on what I all need to get.

I recently purchase a and Expressvu HDTV upgrade kit off ebay which came with the larger dish, dish brackets with skew adjustment, two dual LNBF's, Y mount, two SW21 switches and 4 short pieces of coax w/ connectors.
The dish says Bell Expressvu on it and not Dish 500. The one LNBF says Bell Expressvu and the other says Dish Digital LNBF. I planned on switching my old dish with this new one but need to know what other items I need to purchase to hook it up for my two existing receivers, a 5100 & 3100, and 9200 or higher receiver?

The diagram Nimiq1 posted earlier looks like a very straight forward setup but I have a few question regarding it and the use of the SW44.
1) Can I add and additional, non-HDTV receiver to this setup by just running another line from the SW44 to the other receiver?
2) Do I need to use an additional Power Inserter for each receiver added?
3) Can the SW44 be mounted oustide near the dish using the 4 short pieces of coax that came with my dish kit or should it be mounted inside?
4) What does the use of the Power Inverter with power supply actually do?

Sorry if these questions have been answered already and thanks in advance for the help.

You can feed up to four tuners (any type) off one SW44 switch. The 9200/9242 is two tuners, so that leaves two ports for your other two receivers.

You need just one power inserter, installed on port 1 of the SW44.

The SW44 can be mounted outside or inside. It's designed for both. Since you have to run four lines into your house anyway, you might want to consider mounting it inside. It's one less device exposed to the elements.

The power inserter powers the SW44 switch.

Thanks for the quick reply Mike. I already have two existing cables running into the house, one through the soffet into the attic for the bedroom receiver and one cable down along the wall then through the wall for the downstairs receiver. I will have to looking to the logistic of installing the SW44 inside since my dish is at the front of my house and all my receivers are located at the back. The downstairs receiver is not an issue to run the cable inside the house but the upstairs is abit more difficult to get the cable from the basement level up 3 floors through the wall which is why I ran it through the attic in the first place. The best option might be to mount the SW44 on the exterior wall up high just under the soffet so it is still protected from the weather but still allow me to use the existing cable in the attic for the upstairs. This would leave me with 2 additional cables that need to be run for the downstairs which is not that big a deal. Just need to get more cable since it is a 50+ foot run for each cable. Another option would be to try and install a the dish closer to the back of the house for a shorter cable run. I still have a Direct TV dish mounted on the chimney in the back that faces the same direction as the BEV dish. Just not sure if that location would give me a good view to the BEV sat's or if the roofline would get in the way. Too cold outside now to give it a try but might be worth it as an experiment. The dish on the front of the house is not the most attractive thing to look at. LOL :)

Now I need to find myself a SW44 with the power inserter. Off to eBay I go.

Thanks,
Carl
