: 9200 / 9242 / 9241 Installation 101
Nimiq 1 2007-10-30, 05:21 PM "content on my hard drive was corrupted and needed to be deleted in order to work properly".
This is getting very common with almost all the Refurbished 9200's doing this now, so it is nothing to worry about.
press "record" on remote #2
Normal, nothing to worry about, it just set up Remote #2 to work your Tuner 2.
Q - did I screw up the system by using a different transponder number (I only did this for 91 not 82)?
No, this is OK, transponder 11 is one of the strongest, so it is OK.
Q - do I have to rephone BEV to re-activate the 9200?
Sounds like it, I am still not convinced it has downloaded the correct Software from the satellite.
Did it pass the Check Switch test.?
I would suggest, putting the kettle on, make a coffee and call Express Vu, they should walk you through it all.
You can always try the point Dish screen again, see if it downloads this time.

Thanks I was a bit worried...does this mean this unit is not a "new " one then?

Bell said to just ignore this screen...so I did.

That's great. Is such a thing posible for Sat 82? It's on #8 and gets 50-60
max...

You are exactly right!
Did it pass the Check Switch test.?
Yes it did but it would come back to the "not activated (or whatever the message was) screen then
I would suggest, putting the kettle on, make a coffee and call Express Vu, they should walk you through it all.
That's what I have done and it is now downloading the correct version and I am waiting the 2 hours before I do anything. Then I am to re-boot the 9200
by holding the power button for the 10 seconds.
You can always try the point Dish screen again, see if it downloads this time.
Somehow BEV helped me!
I put my replies in your message. Sorry don't know how to nake them appear as other than your comments..
Thanks Nimiq 1. You're great!
Nimiq 1 2007-10-30, 07:04 PM No problems......

This probably means that Remote #2 will not work Tuner #2.
You will need to change it's address to match the 9200.
Go to the System info screen;
Menu / 6 / 1 / 3
Press SAT button on Remote #2 until all lights flash.
Press 11.
Then press #
SAT should flash 3 times
Then press RECORD
Display should now change Remote #2 address to 11
Your signal levels are still low on 82, I get 80% but I am over 250 feet from my Dish.

Thanks again, Nimiq 1.
I'm a little confused (no kidding..).
If I will never use the 2nd remote control on the 9200 (it will not be used to run another tv) do I need to do anything with Remote 2 at all? I had planned to just put it away in case the other 9200 Remote 2 (which is used) gets broken.
If I do your 6 / 1 / 3 process, what is that doing? Is that setting up Remote 2 to be used?
Sorry for all the questions...
Nimiq 1 2007-10-30, 07:50 PM Yes, that is just setting up Remote #2.
If you do not plan on using it, thats fine.
Also, forgot to answer one other question;
If the Hard Drive Formatted, then I would hazard a guess that your 9200 is a Refurbished unit.
99% of all our Refurbs do this Format upon installation.
If there is a Smart Card, it is Refurbished.......
Tom.F.1 2007-10-31, 02:15 PM Yup, remote 2 is pretty useless if you're not using TV 2.
they're 6 bucks on ebay and not selling. Keep if for a spare when the dog chews up remote 1.
dudler 2007-11-01, 12:22 AM hi..have been doing lots of reading, but now i feel i am going in circles! time to simply state my situation and ask a question.
here goes:
i am sharing a dish with my neighbour. my location is such that the only way i can get bell is to mooch off his location of dish. but now i want to upgrade to get hd. we are using a 24 inch dish i believe. i know it is bigger than the old direct tv dishes...and says expressvu on it. i think it is pretty old. it has one dual lnb (with two coax inputs on it...one for each of us)
anyway, i am prepared to spend some money to allow me to upgrade to hd, and, would like to add two old 3100 boxes for other rooms in my townhouse. so, id like 3 tvs to have receivers. (but have access to only half the dish...that is the trick!)
should i be looking at getting a dish 500 with twin dish pro plus lnbs? or can i just get some dish pro plus lnbs and add them to my exisitng dish? is the dish 500 dish eliptical? does the fact that im not sure if my dish is 20 or 24 inches matter?
it would be nice to run my coax to my house, do some splitting and then run the coax to the three locations. that would be easy....but the hard part is knowing if i can do this, what dish and lnbs are needed, and do i need a special switch or splitter?!
ahhh...so many questions! sorry to ask, but thanks for the help!
dude
Nimiq 1 2007-11-01, 09:56 AM If it is a 24" Dish, it cannot be Upgraded to pick up Both Satellites, you will indeed need a new Dish.
I am going to have to jump to a few conclusions to give you some kind of an answer;
Right now you and your neighbor each have 1 receiver. So based on this and the fact that you want HD, this is the way I see it for you.
Upgrade Dish to a new 20" Express Vu Dish use 2 x LNBF's, mount an SW44 at the rear of the Dish. From the SW44 run one line to your neighbors, he will get a few extra channels now for free because of the Upgrade.
Run 3 lines to your house for your 3 receivers (Tuners).
NOTE, I say Tuners, not receivers. If you were thinking of getting a 9200 or 9242, then they need 2 feeds but they will also feed a second TV independently, so it would eliminate a 3100.
Also, if you buy a 9200 or 9242, you would get the Dish, LNBF,s and SW44 in the package.
I have stuck to Legacy Equipment as you have not said what model receivers you have now and the fact that other options, Dish Pro, etc are still not supported by Express Vu officially.
jpaul 2007-11-01, 11:58 AM I need to set-up two 9200 recievers.. will example 1 work for me, since I have the Dp twin lnbf, of course I would need 2 separators,, or should i buy an sw44 switch...
Nimiq 1 2007-11-01, 12:44 PM Ideally you would need a DPP Dual LNBF, to do it using DP equipment. To use the SW44 you would need 2 x Legacy LNBF's (twins) and run 4 lines into your house.
DP LNBF's cannot feed DPP seperators.
jpaul 2007-11-01, 12:57 PM Thanks Nimiq 1, I think I will go with the sw44 switch and 2 x Legacy LNBF's. Is it preferable to install the sw44 switch indoors or outdoors..?
Nimiq 1 2007-11-01, 01:02 PM If you are running 4 lines I would say mount it indoors.
That way when it fails in February, you don't freeze while replacing it.....lol
dudler 2007-11-01, 03:44 PM thanks nimiq 1
much appreciated responses. i have two 3100 receivers (although only one is active now..the other was given to me!) and i would like to buy the 6100. i dont want to pay for the pvr, although i sure am envious of those who have it.
so, i will get a 20 inch dish. i dont think my neighbour, who owns the dish, wants to pay for new stuff, so i will just buy what i need and do it. as long as he has tv and is not bothered, he is happy that i do whatever.
if i am going to get new stuff, i sort of want dpp stuff. if i am forking out the money, might as well get the cool toys!
so, should i get a dish 500 dish? is it 20 inches? i am leaning towards buying dpp stuff as it will be a bit future proof or easier for the future should i change things up and get a dual tuner pvr. where should i buy dpp stuff in can? ive seen some sites mentioned on here, and know ebay is good. what price do you think a dpp dual lnb and dish should run me?
and, if i get dpp stuff, do i need a dpp44 (and NOT a sw44?)
thanks again for the much needed and appreciated help
dude
peano 2007-11-02, 06:48 AM The Dish 500 is the same as Bell's 20" dish. Get one with a Dishpro Twin (does not need to be DPP) and buy a DPP-44 switch. That will give you four feeds that get 91 and 82 and you can run one line to a 9200 with a separator in the future.
Total cost should be around $120 - $160.
Tom.F.1 2007-11-03, 02:49 PM Hi Guys, I got an install issue.
I had a 9200, 2700 & 1000 all off a SW44.
Just got the 9242 and want to run the 9200 and 2700 as well. Had a leftover SW24.
So, I put the SW24 in front of the SW44 and ran the 2700 off it as well.
hooked it up, tested switch, added reciver online to my account and got programming.
So, now i've lost some channels on the 2700. and i'm missing some HD channels on both 92xx's.
the check switch passes, says OK on 91 & 82, odd and even.
Then downloads the guide and comes back with an 82 missing error.
I'm confused. Anybody got any ideas?

Exvu.Tech.Mtl 2007-11-03, 09:05 PM All great but by using 2 sw21's the receiver will eventually fail.
Tom.F.1 2007-11-03, 09:16 PM Thank you Nimiq, that was what i planned to do!!
It turned out that i had a cable with the center conductor too short!! It was the store bought one, I knew i should have made my own cables.
I also had the SW24, (sw42 in your drawing) on 82 instead of 91. The 92xx's worked ok, the 2700 was on the wrong sat.
All great now.
Thank you all for your help!!
Now i'm programming the Free Harmony remote from Future Shop, we'll see how that goes!!
scrooloose 2007-11-03, 10:35 PM Just curious, which model Harmony remote did you get?
