: 9200 / 9242 / 9241 Installation 101
Nimiq 1 2007-10-01, 01:46 PM That is an option and yet again I will state the obvious;
"SW44a's are not supported by Express Vu"
My option used all existing and the new SW44 that the posters will get with a 9200, it results in a minimum outlay of cash and provides a pretty good resulting distribution of signals.
I stick to options using Express Vu supported equipment for the average users.
Well, I am about ready to embark on the BEV PVR adventure.
I just got 2000' of RG6 ready to lay...I will only need about 500'.
I'll be wiring my abode for 2 new 9242 PVR units (one for each plasma) plus any number of simple SD receivers for the remaining older TV Sets strung along my existing land cable infrastructure.
I may need help when it comes to the Switches/Separators/Splitters, so I look forward to using your great resource here.
Nimiq 1 2007-10-24, 09:29 PM OK, we are ready and waiting.....lol
hemmi 2007-10-26, 08:58 AM Hello all,
I just installed a dual dish and I'm running into some weird issues
I'm running 4 wires into the house going into a SW44 (the one that came with my receive/dish).
Two wires are going to the 9200 and the power inserter is on line 1
When I do a check switch it fails and does not see either 91 or 82.
If I bypass the sw44 I get a sighnal of 93% on 91(tp 11) and if I do the same for 82 I get 67% (tp 9)
If I plug in everything bask to the sw44 but remove the power inserter...I get an error on "signal Input 1" but Input Signal 2 sees both 91 and 82 and recognizes the sw44
From all this do you believe I might have a defective sw44 or cable issues.
Do I need a specific stregnth % on 82 for the switch to work properly and what Tp should I be checking with on the 82 bird
Thank you
All comments our experiences are welcome
Nimiq 1 2007-10-26, 09:01 AM Are you ONLY running a 9200.?
Also we have had a batch of SW44's where the Power needs to go into Port #2.....
hemmi 2007-10-26, 09:02 AM Yes I am
markb 2007-10-26, 07:53 PM I just picked up my first HD PVR (9242) and I know this is a 9200 install thread, but I'm trying to install my 9242 and I know it is the same install so someone might be able to help me.
What I have outside on my roof already is one sw21 that runs one line inside from 91 & 82 and one line directly off of 91. What I'm wondering is, is there anyway to take that one line off of sw21 and split it to two lines for the 9242? Can I run this line into the sw44 and then split it to two?
hemmi 2007-10-26, 08:16 PM Just an update
With the help and guidance of Nimiq1 we have come to a conclusion that my sw44 is probably defective. Presently I am using 2 sw21's (each sw has a coax from 91 an 82 and both input's are connected to the 9200. My switch test was successful and i was able to download a program guide. Left to do: 1- get a replacement sw44 for the future 2-re-aim my dish a bit to increase my signal on 82...it fluctuates between 47 and 60
thank you to all (a special thanks to Nimiq1)

You cannot use Splitter on the Active Side of a Multi-switch.
You need either another SW21 and feed it exactly the same as the other, or install the supplied SW44 and hook up ALL 4 lines on the Input Side.
PM me if you need a drawing.
hemmi 2007-10-27, 11:29 AM I was packing my faulty sw44 to return it and noticed that the box for the power inserter said sw64...does the sw44 and sw64 use the same power inserter...???
Nimiq 1 2007-10-27, 11:38 AM Yes, same one......
hemmi 2007-10-27, 01:33 PM I'm at the point that I have to re-aim my Sat. I have a signal of 97% on 91 but my 82 signal is to cry for...When I re-aim should I start with the skew or begin with something else (azimuth or elevation)
thanks in advance
Nimiq 1 2007-10-27, 03:12 PM Set the skew for your location.
Peak signal on 91. Use 1 solid line all the way from LNBF to receiver, NO Swicth in the circuit at all.
When 91 is peaked, swing the cable onto 82 it "should" be good.....
NOTE, should.......
I think Skew should be around 100

I do the reverse. With skew set correctly, run one line to 82 with no switches and peak it. 91 will come in strong. I want the HD channels to have the strongest signal.
Nimiq 1 2007-10-28, 11:11 AM That works too.
lamajama 2007-10-28, 10:35 PM I'm sorry I can't find the answer in all these pages.
My question is this. I have a 9200 working fine. I bought another
9200 to replace a 4100.
Can I not just swap the receivers, activate it and be done with it?
scrooloose 2007-10-28, 10:50 PM The 4100 has only one tuner, the 9200 has two. If you want to be able to record two events at once, or watch one and record another, you will need both tuners active. You can probably activate it with just the one tuner working however.
How you connect up the extra line depends on what sort of setup you have from your dish. If it's the typical SW44 switch configuration, then you can connect up to four tuners. If your existing 9200 is using two, that should leave two for your second 9200. But you might have to add another line between the switch and receiver.

lamajama 2007-10-29, 12:24 PM I looked at I do have one line not used. So if I run another cable (is it the
"ordinary cable" you buy in a Best Buy?) to the 9200, I will be set?
I tried to activate it last night with the 4100 original line, and the 9200 keeps
saying it's not activated yet - it's been 16 hours so obviously I have to re-phone or have I done something wrong?
Plus it keeps trying to get a signal on sat 119 (if memory serves) and
not the 91 and 82. I manually change all three settings and still no signal lock-on.
Please give me some advice. Thanks!
Nimiq 1 2007-10-29, 03:32 PM The 9200 has not downloaded to software yet from the Express Vu satellite.
Go to the point Dish Screen, run a check switch, then exit that screen, it should ask if you have finished the installation, choose yes, it should then download software.
I would run the second cable first so you are all ready to go.
Cable required is RG6.
lamajama 2007-10-30, 03:44 PM Thanks Nimiq 1.
I ran the line, connected it and did what you said but I think I may have
"screwed" the system up a bit. I have always had a weak signal, and when I
was at the screen that locates the dish, the system "locked on" to tuner input #2, transponder 11 for Sat 91 with a 87% signal. My existing 9200
numbers were 2 and 8. I entered those and this gave me a 77% signal. So I left the transponder number at 11 due to the increased strength and continued with the process - including where the system asks me to "confirm sat numbers (sorry can't remember exact phrase).
Then among minor questions, I was told that the "content on my hard drive was corrupted and needed to be deleted in order to work properly". Not a big concern as I had nothing on the hard drive so I continued. (I do worry a bit that this might mean I have a faulty 9200 though). It then asked me to press "record" on remote #2 (even though it will be only connected to one TV) but I did this too). After this, the system attempts to find the sat and is unable. I re-boot the system by holding the 9200 power switch and now get
"receiver has not been authorized".
Q - did I screw up the system by using a different transponder number (I only did this for 91 not 82)?
Q - do I have to rephone BEV to re-activate the 9200?
Thanks you've been a great help!
