Joe, looks like I'm heading to Radio Shack. No 82 through the switch. I went direct again into the 9200 and get 87% locked on 82, transponder 11. 92 is at 100%. Is that a reasonable signal for 82?

I want to get signed up for HD for the NHL playoffs. Can I get it set up by going direct into the 9200? One line 91. One line 82? Just a thought to make it simple.

David.

yes if you tried as I suggested I would return it. There is another thread where you can compare signal strengths but that sounds very good.

you can put one 82 and one 91 into the 9200 but I would NOT recommend.
Using this method one tuner can only record 91 sat. and one tuner can only record 82 sat.

I am sure it can work but I would get a working switch.

Sorry if this question has already been asked but: Can I run one coax cable from the powered line and one from the sw44 to the two sat inputs of the 9200 receiver. Or is the powered line strictly for a single unit. If someone could answer this I would appreciate it.:p

All four outputs of the sw44 can go to any receivers input. (The 9200 needs two.) The "powered" line is only inserting power "to" the sw44 to operate it. (normally the receiver supplies power to the LNB but it cannot support 4)

Can a separator be used with the sw44 to hook up a 5th IRD? One line from the sw44 with a separator to the 9220 and the remaining 3 lines to 3 IRDs?

separators only work with a DPP twin lnb or a DPP 44 switch.

or, vice versa ... I have purchased a 9200 to replace my existing 3100 with dish mounted on my balcony rail (15th floor). I am an end unit but the balcony does not continue to the end of the building. I receive 91 at 99 to 100 signal strength which is the best ever (and I have installed a few) but cannot receive 82. If I sight-line the dish arm, I am looking at concrete so I must asume that 91 just clears the end of the building (offset as it crosses over to 91 LNB) . Here's the math question, "If the corner of the building is 20 feet from my dish, how far straight out on a boom must my mount be moved to receive 82 ?"
Any takers ?
john
(kitchener - not that it should change the math)

P.S. In Point Dish, 82 reports wrong sat. I assume it is looking at 91, but why doesn't it know the difference?

Hi there

I currently have a 2700 and a 3100 installed with one LNB and have just purchased a 9200 with a SW44 and a second LNB.

In anticipation of a friend coming over to help point it at the 82 satellite I installed the switch with only the two cables coming from the 91 LNB. They worked fine on both the 2700 and 3100 after doing a check switch.

I then installed an additional two lines coming from the 82 LNB and attached them to the SW44.

I might add that I have not yet connected the 9200 yet...I just wanted to make sure that the connections for the 82 LNB and the SW44 worked correctly.

Now, I realize it is not aimed correctly at the 82 satellite just yet but figured that they would at least show up on the check switch. When doing a check switch (on both the 2700 and 3100) the 91 shows up fine (1B even, 1A odd) BUT the 82 shows up OK only on 2B (even). 2A (odd) displays an "X".

I thought there might be a problem with the cable going into the switch's 2A connection so I swapped the cable with 2B and even recrimped it (going into the switch).

When I ran a check switch again on both the 2700 and 3100 it shows the same 2A (odd) with an "X". ("problem detected, check connections")

-Is it because it has not yet been pointed correctly and should only worry after that has been done?
-could there be a problem with the switch?
-could there be a problem with the second LNB?
-does it matter which cables from the LNBs go into the switch as sat1 or sat2?

any thoughts would be appreciated!
thanks! :D

an update:

I directly connected the two feeds from the 82 bird to the 2700 and 3100 (one got the even transponders, the other the odd ones).

Since the dish is not truly aimed for it yet, transponder 12 only came up as 45% but I was able to get the odd channel from 82 (ie channel 222 Thunder Bay) so I know that there was a signal to both the 2700 and 3100.

So, I reconnected everything to the Switch and ran a switch test.
The odd transponders on 82 do not show up (2A) and show as "X" (still).
Those Thunder Bay channels on the 82 satellite show up on the guide, but they don't appear strong enough to actually display on TV.

My thought now is that since it was such a weak signal in the first place that once you run those feeds from the 82 LNB through the SW44 it makes them virtually unusable. Only a proper dish alignment with the 82 satellite will help all transponders display in the "check switch".

Am I way off here or could there be something wrong with the switch, the connections, or even the LNB?

thanks! :)

After getting the dish aimed properly at the 82 satellite, all problems with transponders and the switch are fixed. I was a little worried when I saw certain transponders (ie #10) at 0% for the 82. A quick search of the forum confirmed that they are not actually operational.

9200 installed with no problems and works well.

Thanks

OK...so lots to consider here. I am about to move into a new home in the Windsor area. I plan on taking all my Expressvu equipment with me. My question is this;

If I want to 5 receivers (including 2 x 9200's) can I use the combination of a 4x8 multiswitch and then splitters at the end of a single cable run that is going upstairs to where one of the 9200's is going to be located. I can get two cables to the 9200 in the basement...it's this upstairs unit that is causing me concern.

Any advise would be helpful.

The only way to run a single line to a 9200 is to use a Dish Pro Plus Separator. I have the exact same setup as you want. Five receivers with two 9200's run with single lines. I bought a Dish Pro Quad LNB and Dish Pro Plus 44 switch off of eBay to do it. Two lines off of the DP Quad LNB run to the DPP44 switch and the other two lines off of the LNB run straight into my 3100 and 4100 receivers. From the DPP44 switch I run one line to my 6100, and one line to each of my two 9200's. At the end of the single lines running to the 9200's I use the DPP separators to feed the dual tuners. There is one free remaining feed off the DPP44 if you want a sixth tuner some time later. You're looking at ~$100 - $150 for the DPP44 switch and ~$40 for the DP Quad LNB. It works great. Don't expect any help from Bell support though. They have no clue about Dish Pro technology. When I told them I had Dish Pro technology installed they told me I should remove it and use an SW44 switch and had no suggestion for how to hook up all my receivers. Whatever.... The following link descibes Dish Pro technology http://www.solidsignal.tv/dishpro_installation.asp

Hope this helps

Can anyone recommend a good installer for a BEV HD Disk and SW44. I am replacing my 18" with the 20" that comes with the 9200.
I will have a 9200 and a 5900. (Currently have two 5900's)
I am at Yonge and 401. Need someone to install dish, run extra cables into house.
If you have an individual or company you can reccommend that does this please send PM
Thanks

Apprciate the help to this point folks but am having additional difficulties with this upgrade....

1. The suggested wiring for the 44 does not show whether outs 1 thru 4 must go to any specific recievers or not in one instructional diagram..however, on another it seems to show that outs 3 and 4 must be used to connect 9200? True or False?

2. With known signal alignment...disconnect all 4 inputs - then one at a time connect the two 91's to inputs 1a or 1b, not both at the same time, I do not get a tone if either coax in's go only to 1a. Is this normal? Switch defective?

Either coax in's on 1b give immediate tone.

Many thanks....

Bob

Is it necessary to install SW44 switch to watch HDTV. I'm thinking of running 2 cables straight to 9200 ird , and then use SW21 swich to run 2 cables through this switch to 3100. Will this work?

Ok then... As I mentioned I have 3100 and a new 9200. I'll run 4 cables to the SW44 and from the switch 2 cables to 9200 , and 1 cable to power outlet and 3100. The 4th one will be empty. Does this sound ok and will it work?

Is there any difference if power is with the cable by 9200 or 3100?

i guess i one of the lucky ones.my tv is hdmi.so i go from hdmi to hdmi and the picture and sound is fantastic.don't need to use those annoying rca jacks for the sound.even the weak sounding stations like tropolis comes in nice.don't need to change thesound up and down when i switch stations as all seam to be equally loud.and the picture quality isway better than my old 6100 on the plain digital channels that it makes them worth watching.so if u got hdmi tv i suggest u hook it up hdmi to hdmi cause u'll see a real difference.and if your looking to buy anew tv make sure it has hdmi input.

sorry if this is a repeat question but it is not clear to me from user guide/cus support/ forum threads

I currently have 5800 and 3100 ( both pointing to 82 bird, I think ) I am pulling them out to install 9200 only, no addional recievers. I will be getting HD programming. Recieved 2 dual LBNF, dish and SW44 recently

1) Do I need to run 4 cables to the SW44 ? Can I just run the two existing cables to connector 3 & 4 on SW44 and then connect the two cables to the 9200 dual tuner inputs ?

I do not plan on making use of the two other outputs of the SW44

Does the SW44 require input from the 91 bird ?

I am not versed in the theory of purpose of the SW44 ? Any feedback on that ?
