: 9200 / 9242 / 9241 Installation 101
Diamond 2005-07-15, 10:56 PM I do and when I set it to the skew it says in the book I loose the signal totally,
If you don't have a satellite finder, borrow a pair of walkie talkies and take one up to the roof. Have someone in the house watch the signal strength and report to you as it gets better or worse. (If you can't get radios, take your cell phone up to the roof). If you don't have anyone, put an elastic band on the one in the house (over the talk button so it is depressed) and set it by the TV. Listen for the sound, the higher the pitch, the higher the signal. Those setting on the dish are for rough estimates only. You wil find that you don't have to move the dish much to change the signal. Go in baby steps! Once you have 91, tighten the appropriate nuts on the dish. Then change the receiver to sat 82 on transponder 11. Now adjust the skew by rotating the dish slightly until you hear a change in tone. If it gets deeper, turn the dish the other way until it gets as high a tone as you can get.
00gts 2005-07-15, 10:57 PM awesome Diamond, the install instructions came with info for 2 x 2 way switch instead of the SW44. I got those on the right way and did a check switch and everything is working now. It's downloading the software.
For anyone having problems make sure your inputs to the switch are right then perform a check switch. That's what ended up fixing mine.
Thanks for the info on this page, helped alot!
edit: Is there supposed to be a smartcard somewhere? I don't have one!

If you read the manual fully, you would have seen that there is no card and the card slot is there for a future card upgrade if needed.

Altaman 2005-07-16, 07:46 AM Altaman,
You bring up a very good point about the focal points of the dish. Simply adding a Y adapter will move the LNB out, away from the dish.
I have read somewhere (can't remember where) of people cutting the arm to compensate for the difference when adding a DN/BEV lnb to larger dishes.
Perhaps I can swap the arm too, to get the right length.
Swapping the arm is not going to do it as the arm on the BEV dish is for their 20" dish, with a larger dish I would suspect the length of the arm would be longer to focus on the centre.
As for the dish being slightly oval, What did early adopters of HD and dual sats use? I thought the slightly oval 51cm dish that comes with the 9200 package was not available way back then.
Before sat 82, all BEV had I believe was an 18" single LNB dish. When sat 82 was added, you needed the larger 20" oval dish and second LNB which was provided via an upgrade kit. Basically what is in the 9200 box over and above the reciever, but instead of the SW44, there was SW21's (initally two, but now only one).

Altaman 2005-07-16, 07:56 AM Hi
Will the hardware supplied with the 9200 enable me to run two wires, without buying anything extra?
Everything is there except the extra RG6 cable you will need to feed the second tuner. Basically right now you have one cable coming from each LNB to feed your 6000 going most likely to a SW21. What you are going to need is additional cable going from the second output of each LNB to the SW44. You will also need to remove the cable from the SW21 and connect it to the SW44.
Now when you get these all hooked up, if you plan on still using the 6000, you will have to run a check switch without any cabling connected to clear out the old switch info. You then connect the cable and run the check switch again. The SW44 will allow you to feed both 9200 tuners and two other receivers.

Thanks for the information. I do not plan to use the 6000.

Altaman 2005-07-16, 09:13 AM I have had numerous requests to send people PDF files on the installation of Dishpro LNB's, switches and the like. The link provided below has all the information and more that most users would likely need.
DishPro/DishPro Plus installation information (http://www.solidsignal.com/dishpro_installation.asp)

Crispy 2005-07-16, 09:19 AM Always,
Remember if you were using legacy lnb previously and are going to any DishPRO lnb:
1) Disconnect coax from back of receiver(s)
2) Run a check switch (it will fail)
3) change LNB outside to DishPRO
4) Reconnect coax to receiver(s)
5) Re-run check switch on receiver(s)
Failing to do so may result in damaging your receiver(s).

Fox422 2005-07-16, 02:31 PM Hello,
I've turned green to red and now green again. I was unable to find sat 82. And I found by hiding the Lnb 91 that I was not loosing sat 91 ! So I realised that I was getting salt 91 with lnb 82... I just can't get 91 with 91 ! So now I'm wondering if my house is not hiding my view. So can someone confirm if I should rotate CCW or CW when I'm getting salt 91 with lnb 82 ?
Additional infos: I have four rg6 cables going from my antenna to the SW44 and two rg6 cables going to the receiver and the sw44 is powered by the transformer. So I thing everything is well connected. I even swapped the 2 lnbs and tested all cables with a tv and a vcr !
Thanks.

It depends on where you are! For example here in Calary (facing front of dish) it is clockwise and in Montreal it is counter-clockwise.
You should really put you location in your profile, it does help at times to know it.

PS: you can look up your angles at http://sadoun.com/Sat/Installation/Satellite-Heading-Calculator.htm or in your manual.

...20 minutes from Montreal. :D (there is no shy or I feel stupid smile...)
Edit: I called Bev to ask if an installer could visit me and do the pointing instead of doing all the work and they told me that because I activated my system, I was no longer a new customer... I said I'm with BEV since two days ! Anyway the contract say that the installation is included and nowhere it's written that if you activate, you can't ask for installation. So I called a guy who charged me 60$ for pointing sat 91 & 82. Monday I'm going to fight with BEV for a 60$ credit. They better not tell me that there installers can do all the job for only 60$
MrGrinch 2005-07-16, 06:04 PM Okay so after reading this thread I am more confused than when I started so I thought I would spell out my situation specifically to make sure I get my wiring correct before putting into please. Patience is a virtue! :) I currently have a 5100 and just bought a 9200. So my questions...
1) Where to mount the SW44 switch - Inside versus outside. This was already mentioned in this thread but want to confirm. The BELL instructions say to mount INSIDE the house while the DISH NETWORK installation guide that come with the SW44 switch say to mount OUTSIDE. A bit of a discrepancy! I would prefer to mount OUTSIDE because the the switch iteself takes the place of the grounding block. It has a nice wire connector on the top right portion of the switch that you can run your ground wire from and conect it to your grounding rod into the ground. My power inserter would be about 7 feet away on the inside of the foundation. Any suggestion on who is correct - Bell or Dishnetwork??? I would really like to ground this if possible... however another option I guess is to just buy a second 2-cable grounding block and mount that outside instead but of course this will break the run between the antannae and the swtich.
2) Confirming the wiring from the SW44:
- On the first LNB run two RG6 wires to 1B and 1A on the switch.
- On the second LNB run two RG6 wires to 2B and 2A on the switch.
- On the other side of the switch run port #1 to the power inserter and then run the other part from the power inserter to Satellite-in #1 on the 9200
- Run wire from port #2 to Satellite-in #2 on the 9200
- Run wire from port #3 to Satellite-in on the 5100
- Leave port #4 empty for possible future use.
Does this wiring all sound correct? Thanks and sorry again if this has been posted in a different format... I just need it spelled out for me as this is not my forte! I've installed my own 5100 but this is a little more complicated!
3) Anyone know if the mast part of the antennae are the same between the 9200 51cm dish and the one that came with my 5100? Can I get away with just slipping the old dish off while leaving the mast in place and slipping the new one on and re-tightenting? Just wondering if I can avoid drilling 4 holes in the roof again if possible (brand new home) and keep the same mast in place. Just asking before I go up there...
Thanks!!
00gts 2005-07-16, 06:27 PM All your wiring is right. I just did mine last night and that is exactly how it is hooked up. I personally mounted the SW44 just inside the attic and the power inserter is in the room with the 9200.
As for mounting outdoors I would say that it is ok to mount outside because when you plug the RG6 into the sockets they are a very tight fit which I would guess is to help with weather proofing it. That is also stated in the manufacturer's literature so I would go with that first but then again if you ever have problems I can see BEV blaming it on your "improperly installed switch". Know what I mean?
Hope this helps.
If mounting the SW44 outside, which it's designed for, use enuf RG-6 to make drip-loops in each of the four lines from dish to switch. Use good connectors on each line as well, for better weather-proofing.
Pickle 2005-07-18, 11:32 AM Altaman,
Cut the Arm? OK: I didn't want to swap the dish out of pure lazyness.
So I ended up just swapping the dish for the 51cm one. It was the easiest solution after all. I am now a one with HD goodness.
Thanks for your help, tho.
Having trouble skewing in sat 82...
I'm running 4 lines into an SW44, Sat 91 has good signal, skew is set to 69 degrees for my area (south-east BC), I'm on transponder 13/sat 82, but only getting the red bar (with tone) indicating wrong sat (91). My PIP works fine (sat 91 channels), so both tuners are working...
Should I disconnect the sat 91 LNB when adjusting skew?? And then listen for the tone??
MrGrinch 2005-07-18, 12:48 PM So I have found 91 with 100 signal strength and as per the instructions have clicked "done" and have moved on to "download the software" screen. I know I have yet to find 82 but will do that after the software downloads.
Question: I am now on the "acquiring satellite screen do not disturb receiver" and it's been sitting there for 20 minutes. Is this normal... how long does it usually take to move on to the next screen???
Thanks.

Enzo, just put some aluminium paper on the LNB. It's faster if you want to make a test. Personnally I discovered that I was catching sat 91 with lnb 82 using some aluminium paper...
But now everything is ok.
aluminum foil... good tip!
Do I need to re-do check-switch with LNBs covered to clear data?? And then just uncover the sat 82 LNB, skew for tone on transponder 13, and re-run check-switch??
ken0042 2005-07-18, 02:11 PM Check Switch is your friend. Doing it more often than seems natural is always best.
I think you're on the right track, Enzo.
