Calix,

Let us know the version number and if your Samsung can have the handshake with the DVI's HDCP.

Hi,
I have been following this thread very carefully because i've been also waiting for the DVI to be activated on my 8000HD.
For a year now i have been calling Videotron and asking them about the activation and never get a precise date but always get a "it shouldn't be too long" type of answer.
Yesterday, i decided to call back again but this time i have received a different answer, this is what the guy said.
"Let me check....ok sir sorry for the wait, i did speak to our tech support and they have informed me that it will not be till the end of this year".
He also goes on the mention that all updates that i've been seeing in the forums are for different types of machines and not for the 8000HD.
This is what is wrong with Videotron:They either have no clue what they are doing or really don't care if they inform their customers with the right answers.
My contract ends in September 2005 for me, so i have decided to get my DVI port working with another company:The 9220 from Bellexpressvu does have HDMI and DVI and will cost me about the same to get 3 regular digital box and the total package.
I find it very weird to see a company like Videtron not care and who has probably lost market shares with the sattelite TV industry taking part of their market.
They miss inform you and play the waiting game till you get enough.
Sad to see that it took me a year to realise that.
Thats my two cents.

Just an idea - have you considered going for the 8300HD? I have it and the HDMI/DVI works great.
I understand that it is on sale at FS for $499 this week.

Good luck, whatever you choice might be.

I just did exactly that. Tired of waiting for DVI to be activated on my 8000HD. The 8300HD connects nicely to my Toshiba DLP, but I'm still playing with the various modes to see if I can avoid switching the TV from Normal to TheaterWide 1 all the time. Right now, I have the PVR set to Upconvert 1.

Took the extended warranty, just in case.

Paul.

A fellow forum member named BRESSO PM'ed me to say how Videotron told him over the phone that:

"So I contacted Videotron to know about that and they replied that the HDMI and DVI weren't activated yet on the 8300HD??".

So do we have yet another CSR at Videotron that doesn't know what is going on?

Yes, unfortunately.

The SA8300HD's HDMI works. The SA8000HD's DVI works for some with the 1.87.16.a2 SARA version and does not work for others having specific make and model HDTV's (my TV is one of those).

Finally got the SARA version 1.87.16.a2 uploaded to my Explorer 8010HD today after begging for i don't know how many times. I don't have a DVI connector on my Samsung HCM4216W but the Passthroug itself is well worth it!

I know they have HDCP problems with a Samsung DLP model.

Those with an interoperability problem with the SA8000HD, such as my own Toshiba, comes from TV's having HDCP version 1.0. That first version had errors to the point that there are cases where two devices both having version 1.0 may have problems with communications between them. Version 1.1 was design to correct these errors.

Just got the above info from Digital Content Protection tonight. Am in discussion with Videotron and with Toshiba.

Any news on the 1.88 version ? When and if it will ever be uploaded to our 8010HD.

Do you know which Samsung DLP? I have an HLN4365. I imagine all models built at that time would be the same.

I don't know which model number is involved with Samsung DLP. My sense is that HDTV's built with a DVI/HDCP input with HDCP version 1.0 are subject to handshake problems. Version 1.1 designed to fix errors in 1.0 was released on June 9, 2003.

Don't know when it will be released. Will advise when I'm told.

It includes:

- A 4th FF or RW >>>> speed (128x)
- Play from the beginning during recording
- After Stop, you can press the "Live" button and get to the last Live channel selected.
- Better HD Picture Quality
- Improved SD Picture Quality but still not as good as analog.

In General Settings, for "Set Color Scheme" I now have "Roller Rink" (don't recall if that was available in previous versions) and love it.

mfabien, you're not running 1.88, right?

I will not confirm that I am...

but if you have questions...

ahh... :)

Need to make a few calls. Thanks.

BTW, when you say: better SD/HD PQ, what exactly is "better" with 1.88? I'm sure it can't make a badly over-compressed & soft channel look.. well "Ok", right?

The present HD picture that I'm now receiving is the best yet. Can't explain why. I did have BEV in the past and the present PQ will stand any comparison.

Today Videotron updated my SA8010 to 1.88.2 but the DVI does not work, I have a sixth generation Panasonic Plasma screen with HDCP compliant DVI input TY-42TM6D ! But I get the error message that the DVI / HDMI is disabled when I try to watch a channel.

Any hope this will be fixed in the future ?
