Thanks guys. I almost never jump into these threads but I 'thought' I had a fresh perspective on this whole thing. This has bugged me for a while. I knew the 'bad' Abu Ghiraib photos were still out of the public eye but all that I'd seen and read so far didn't add up to what I'd call torture. It still may not but it looks like poorly trained interrogators are falling into the 'beat the sh*t out of them' method which has resulted in these deaths. That adds up to torture of a kind in anyone's book.
I stand corrected.
It still amazes me that they have to use these methods at all. The old KGB used sleep deprivation rather than drugs as it was found to be more effective. Takes too long I guess.

Darned if I know. You have to trust the authorities in times like this and it seems to me it was reported in the papers about previous associations with suspect organizations.
Had to revive this thread to show Nanuuk and USCitizen this link:

O'Connor also concluded that Arar was an innocent victim and was not involved in al-Qaeda activities in any way, as U.S. officials had alleged.

Still doesn't change my opinion.

And your opinion is based on what? He's been cleared! You live in a bubble of made-up facts?
I asked several times what your evidence was and you always failed to say what it is. Your only reply was "Darned if I know". Great logic!

I expect the authorities to act in good faith when presented the situation that North America faced after September 11, 2001. To err on the side of safety as it were. Its unfortunate that innocents sometime get got up in this, but it doesn't change my opinion. I do not have to present evidence or hard logic to you or anyone else. The authorities acted to address a perceived threat. That's good enough for me.

What perceived threat? They had nothing at all on him so what was the threat? Tell us what everybody else doesn't know! And send him down to Syria for torture? Ya, that's nice... It's one thing to arrest for interrogation, but what they did was not just addressing a threat.
Let me remind you what your opinion was...
"There was evidence that Arar had a 'past'"
What a load of crap...

That was straight out of a newspaper. Deal with it.

Got a link? 'cause you've been giving out nothing, but lies so far.

No, I do not have a link (it was ahrdcopy newspaper). And no I haven't given lies so far. Who peed in your cornflakes this morning anyways?

Because you and USCitizen went on a character assasination on that guy with absolutely ZERO evidence and lying along the way. He got vindicated today and the US authorities were in the wrong. But still you insist that they did the right thing by sending him out for torture. Speaking volumes of you.

Hate to break this to you, but I did not character assassinate the guy. I was defending the authorities. But believe what you want. Could care less. Toodles.

I know you couldn't care less. Even if it was a member of your own family sent out for torture. You're that much of a hypocrite.

And I think we're done here.
