I would like to see some sort of time clock available while you are watching recorded programs, so that you can know how much you have watched and how much you have left.

The yellow bar does not give me an accurate idea of how much of the program I have viewed!

Thank you.

I would like to see the reciever itself be capable of volume controll, like the old 921's.
This would make it alot easier to get all components at optimum levels and be able to turn
all up or down or mute all at the reciever level. soft mute would be great too!
Maybe one set of outputs for vcr that stays at standard output as well as anything on hard drive.
Is this even possible with digital/optical outputs?

Volume control is easily accomplished on analogue outputs, however volume control of PCM, DD2.0, DD5.1 is not inexpensive, therefore it's not usually included in STBs and you do it on your A/V receiver.

If you want volume control on this STB, it may be possible on the analogue outs? My SA STBs have it.

Maybe one set of outputs for vcr that stays at standard output as well as anything on hard drive.

That is a terrific idea! My Scientific Atlanta PVR has an extra set of analog outputs in the back. Audio-Left, Audio-right, and Video. These are not high quality outputs, but are designed for a VCR. You can plug a VCR into these particular outputs and when you are at the DVR LIST, there is an option besides PLAY, DELETE, etc. The option is "COPY TO VCR". When you select that, the outputs designed for the VCR come to life with the movie/show of your choice. You can then play back some other show that you've recorded on the DVR or even watch Live TV without interrupting the outputs that are feeding your chosen show to the VCR. I noticed that the DSR530 did have extra outputs on the back. Perhaps this is something that they will add in the future.

Here's one for ya, probably pie in the sky.
How about the recording option having a monthly calander and timer of some type? For instance...say I'm watching SCREAM channel, and they adverstise a movie for say June 22nd, at 8:00PM. As is, if I see that advertisment today, I'd have to put a note in my outlook calender on the computer to remind me a couple of days ahead of time. Would be kewl to bring up a picture of a calendar for the month of June, arrow to the 22nd, select it, then punch in the time to record. I know.... DREAMING. :)

Can't you just create a timer for that date?

Yes, I see what you mean, I just thought an actual visual calander layed out would be kind of kewl.

A "TIMER" for when you are playing back a recorded show.

Where you can select the timer to show you either how far into the show you are or how much time is left.

I am sorry No-crtc but I don't really see the point of it??
What would you want a calendar for? To know which day of the week it is?
Why? If you want to watch the show, put a Dvr timer on it and watch whenever you want it. :)

Alright here is a sugestion for two more nice features that I would like to see.

First in the guide how about having a different color for the time colum that would range whole channels when there is a recording scheduled for it?

That way if I have a recording scheduled at 19:30 on channel 281 and I'm on channel 600 in the guide, and the 19:30 slot was say PINK, I would know that something is already scheduled to record that time and that way avoid to go into the conflict timer window.

Second on the DVR list, with the number of shows pilling up it would be nice to be able to sort or just show shows based on category (sport, comedy, drama, movie, etc.)
Maybe use the categories button on the remote to bring up the window to sort the dvr list?

I wish the programmers at Motorola looked at TIVO or even UltimateTV for some of the features......

I know this is only a DVR but TIVO and others have been out for years (4 -5) and are light years ahead of this unit in features.

But then again they cannot record HD ...well in the US you have the option of a Tivo HD dual recorder for about $1K.

Oh well....lets start with the simply stuff first...

1) Fix the current Bugs
2) Searchable guide (my wife nags me about this one - our old BELL 5100 even had it!)
3) TRUE dual recording

Cheers

I have a very simple request.

I would like a dialog that asks the use to confirm the deletion of a recorded show. I am always inadvertantly deleting shows because of too many key presses in the buffer. i.e. A simple "Are you sure you want to delete the show" request from the system. This could also have an option in the setup to enable or disable the dialog.

I realize that there is the option to lock a show, but I don't generally lock my recordings because they are transient.

DD what can you tell us so far about any new "features" that *c is considering?

Do you know of any that has not been mentioned yet?
You said in August there would be a feature release, any ideas what is in it?

Clearly Dual recording followed by name search and name based recording are the winners.
Can we assume they will be available within months?

I would like these (http://www.digitalhomecanada.com/forum/showpost.php?p=215836&postcount=91) features.

I think SC missed the ball. They knew that Bell had dual-tuner dual-output PVR (albeit not HD) for some time. Forget that Bell's doesn't work as promised all the time, that should have been the base line for the SC HDPVR.

If Bell does sell this new 9200 for $599 as speculated, SC will get about 2% of the new subs to this market. The 2% are those who hate Bell above all cost. Everyone else will give Bell another chance.

Sorry DD, but MPEG4 is not something that will help the 530 right now. Sort of like Longhorn from Microsoft. For those who use computers on a daily basis, only some of those know what Longhorn even is. Of those who do, very few would consider the consequences of Longhorn during a computer purchase.

Another sugestion for a future fix about the DVR list.
(Whoever left reputation feedback saying that I am always negative please read this thread.)

The list is slow to load, in my receiver with around 30 shows recorded it takes 3-4secs to load.
Right now, due to the bug that after pressing STOP on a recorded show the info windo shows up and chances are it will have the wrong show displayed. (It would be nice if in this window the info could be displayed below the show name, there's plenty of empty space there.)

What I do everytime, just to be safe is to go back to the dvr list and then reopen the show and delete it.

What happens is when returning to the DVR list it always drops you at the top of the list, which in my case is the last show recorded.
My sugestion is to have the cursor drop to the position where the watched show was.
That way I don't have to search for the location of it.
Does this make sense?

Good thing the channel +/- button works here as well but it's still a pain looking for the previous show, especially when I am recording the same show (Becker) whenever it's on so right now 80% of my list just says Becker. :)

Here's another sugestion.

I created a timer that is 90minutes and three shows are recorded.
It would be neat if I could jump 30minutes backwards or forwards.
Here's the idea for that to work, user would press ff/rw once and then press jump forward/backwards to skip 30 minutes.

I know about that but thanks for reminding for those folks that were not aware of it.
In my experience sometimes I start watching the recording and I realize it's an episode I'd already watched and at that point I wish I could just press a button and jump to the next half hour segment. No need to stop the playing.

From what i've been reading in these groups over the past few days it sounds like a feature that is needed is a machine that works like it was advertised as working.

If your a 530 owner, thank-you and your comment is best suited to the owners thread.

If not, it is not a "feature request" and this is not the thread for sarcastic comments.

Comments regarding real features you think may not have yet been considered are always welcome.

I am an owner and I have posted in the owners thread.

My little smiley face means it was meant as a joke. But at the same time if you read the posts there does seem to be a fair number of problems that people are having, so I guess my previous post could be considered a real request for some people. As for me, I will have to use it more to find out.

By the way if, DigitalDude if you are the one who gave me the "negative reputation" for Inappropriate comment - please remove it - because as I said it was meant as a joke, please lighten up.

So 3 pages in and so far:

#1 - Dual Recording
#2 - Searchable Guide
#3 - Name Based Recording

I think I would agree with that. I would have preferred that *C would have actually utilized the Tivo service (I still think even just that name would have given *C an advantage over BEV), but those top 3 I agree with.

#1 to me is the most important. I want to be able to record 2 shows and watch an already recorded show. That is one of the biggest things I would want.
