I saw the trailer and thought it was pretty scary. Also the tv channel A&E had a special on exorsims and exorsists, as it pertains to the catholic church throughout history, and they showed a bit of the movie "The exorcism of Emily Rose" and the court case trial... I think the movie story line is going to be good.

I was on edge in The Others. Another one that hasn't been menitoned is 28 Days Later... this movie was intense for me.... gheez....

For me to become engrossed in a horror movie, there has to be some hint of it occuring (no matter how remote), and the reactions of the characters should be believable.

Another movie that had a great storey line... just lacked in the acting, was SAW. Now that there is some money to throw at the sequel, I am expecting big things.

Regards.

I agree with 28 days later. I rented it one day when the wife was out. I really had no idea what it was about other than a biological disaster type movie. I was scared! I paused the movie a couple of times to take a breather. HAHA.

A little late, but I can't believe no one has mentioned "Event Horizon".

Also, Exorcist still freaks me out (I'm 30 now). The scene where the old priest arrives in the taxi, and there's a slow zoom on the girl's face and eyes....and those damn subliminal death mask shots.

The Exorcist

We had the St John's Ambulance there in case anyone fainted. I thought that was hilarious... until the next morning. Making breakfast, I cracked open an egg with a double yolk. Hmmmm..... Then the second egg, double yolk. Now I'm getting a little wierded out. Rest of the week, more double yolks.

So now I can't make fried eggs without thinking of the Exorcist.

As for the small screen... the earwig that burrows through this guy's brain and is then found to be female .... and egg laying. Was that somebody Lawrence in the Outer Limits, Twilight Zone? Anyways, the creeps came back with a similar scene in ST - The Wrath of Khan.

As for my wife, its Strawberry Pies after reading Stephen King's Thinner and open closets because of another King book. For me it was H.P. Lovecraft.

Thanks guys, I won't be sleeping tonight!

[QUOTE=s21477]A little late, but I can't believe no one has mentioned "Event Horizon".

Thank you!

Someone else affected by this movie. A friend and I went to see this movie with his then-girlfriend. I don't really have a long-lasting "scare" from most movies. I jump in the theatres and feel the tense moments, but no long-lasting effects.

But Event Horizon? Damn, I actually left the lights on. Just the scenes with the character seeing his dead wife like that and I cringe. I've seen it again on VHS and the second viewing isn't nearly so worrying. But damned if I didn't wake up with a start only a few minutes after falling asleep with my light on and my dog in the room. I turned the light off feeling like a fool, and the next day my friend confided to me that his girlfriend insisted on keeping the light on, and he didn't mind at all = )

Other than that, I actually still have the creeps thinking about those old Unsolved Mysteries TV shows about alien abduction. Brrr, still get the chills... me as a young kid was near-paralyzed with fearful imagination at night.

Thanks,

Lord Xcalibur

Jaws.

When I first saw it as a kid with my family in 1975, we had just moved into our new house, and my bedroom had a blue shag rug (it WAS the 70s). As we didn't have our beds put-together yet, my brother and I slept on our bean bag chairs (it WAS the 70s) on the floor. I woke up several times that night dreaming that the bean bag was a shark swallowing me whole.

To this day, when I go swimming in a pool, I always freak myself out by thinking that a shark is going to break through the swimming pool and eat me whole.

The power of great movies.

Sssssss made in 1973. The sequence where David becomes a snake terrified me for the longest time...as well as seeing the snake that hadn't converted completely from a human at the freak show.

After Poltergeist, glancing into a bathroom mirror late at night has never been quite the same... :o

Hah. When I watched Poltergeist in the theatre, there was a guy who was probably 6'3" and 200 lbs. sitting in front and to the right of me who was covering his eyes during that scene.

Everyone gets scared so easily, The one movie that did it
for me was the original Salems lot and its sequel return to salems lot.

Those two were the only movies that really scared the #@!$ out of me.

I'd definitely have to say the classic 'The Exorcist' was truly a scary one. I still have problems watching that movie.

The Ring was a scary one also.

How about Candy Man?

28 Days Later, yea that was scary too... kinda of reminds me of Resident Evil, or Night of the Living Dead..

I was going to say "Don't Laugh", but there is little chance of that! When I was very small, I saw "The Amazing Colossal Man" on some midnight show, and it scared the piss out of me, particularly the part where the bomb explodes and they show the guy standing in the "explosion". I was convinced that guy was under my bed.
Go ahead, laugh.

Can't remember any movie giving me nightmares, but I saw "The Shining" when I was 11 or 12, and that one sat with me for a long, long time. Those young girls in the hallway, the girl in the tub, Grady, so many creepy moments.

Was never spooked by Freddie or Jason movies, I was always more affected by psychological horror. Maybe from being such a voracious reader.

Other notable flicks were "The Changeling" and the final scene from "Sleepaway Camp", when the girl is standing there with her mouth wide open in a scream and you finally see the truth of who she is ;-)

Also, a scene in "Exorcist 3" where the nurse is making night rounds. There is a long shot that never breaks until the unsuspected climax. This movie was underrated, imo. Great stuff!

"Blair Witch" never got to me, nor did "The Ring", though I enjoyed both. "Exorcist" was actually kind of funny to me, but I think it had more effect on Catholics.

You know what, I saw Exorcist 3 in the theatres and I remember myself and everyone else in the theatre freakin' out when that nurse scene came on. Definitely didn't expect what happened.

Blair Witch actually gave me the heebee jeebees later on once the wife and I got home. I had a moment of hesitation before going down into the basement to get some ice cream from the freezer. And forget about going outside to dump the trash! lol
