Thats good because I'm in the same boat too. I have a rogers digital reciever but its not high def. Its gonna be a while before I get into that.

This whole High def thing is turning into a real money racket! First you gotta go out and buy a HDTV $$$, and then you gotta buy a HD reciever $$$, then you gotta suscribe to a HD service with reoccuring monthly charges $$$. All this before you see lick of good quality TV. Holy crap everywhere you turn money money money!!!!

Not really.

You're already talking about a HD set in the Daytek LCD. Granted, the Rogers HD receiver is $9/ month more than the SD one, and it costs $200 more to buy, but from what I remember, the major networks' HD versions are free. What they do charge you for is for more HD channels (Discovery, TSN, Sportsnet etc...). But from what I remember, the major US and Canada networks are free with your HD box.

That doesn't work for me though

Expressvu Receivers are $300 for HD and $600 for HD PVR, I would get TSN & Sportsnet HD along with TMN HD but the major network HD feeds on Expressvu are $10 extra month

Guys I just wanted to say that I got my Daytek dm32 from costco yesterday. It’s amazing!!! Much better than I expected. I have no regrets and no problem telling everyone to go out and buy this T.V., it’s a great bargain. I was going to post some pictures like I promised but I can’t find out how to do that.

You could take your pictures and upload them to www.imageshack.us

Then make a new post and clikc the http://www.digitalhome.ca/forum/images/editor/insertimage.gif and put the URL of the image in there.

Hope this helps.

Guys I'm having trouble getting my PC to display on my Daytek DM32. I tried connecting my PC to to the TV using a 15 pin VGA cable and as the computer boots up I can see it on the screen showing the windows XP splash screen. But thats it after the splash screen its just black. I set the resolution to 1280 x 768 that didn't work so I set it right back to 800 x 600 and that didn't work. Has anyone else incountered this or can anyone help me out?

Try 1024x768x60Hz. And did you select RGB and not DVI input in the menu?

would the daytek dm32 be a good purchase for a first time lcd buyer in the 600-800 dollar price range? kind of on a strict budget right now because of univ. i mainly want to use it for dvds, and game consoles such as the ps3 and xbox360. Also would it be decent for watching regular tv as well? thanks :)

Try 1360 by 768. I had the identical problem on my LM37.

In my view it would be a fantastic purchase for a first-time LCD buyer.

I own a slightly older version of that exact model (the one with DVI-no HDCP). I've bought Daytek displays for 13 years now (I think that's as long as they've been in business in Canada). I've found their quality very impressive, both in reliability and delivered image quality.

I could rhapsodize about how happy I am with Daytek, but I'd sound like they employed me. So let me mostly cover some negatives first to keep in mind. (But my overall recommendation would be: buy it).

One obvious negative: they won't do 1080p. (PS3 and Xbox360 will, though I'm not sure if the difference is visible in most games). But nothing else even at triple the price in a flatscreen format will either.

That said, 1080i or 720p with a game console should be fantastic on the Daytek.

Watching regular analog TV on most Dayteks... meh. It's ok, but the scaling technology built into the TV (basically the electronics that translates 480, 576 or whatever vertical lines into 720p) is mediocre. This is probably the 32" Daytek's biggest shortcoming. If this is your primary application, there are better TV's, though none at this price.

Watching DVD's? Same thing holds. However, buy a decent upscaling DVD player (These are in the $100-$150 range these days) and you'll be ecstatic. I'd argue you won't tell the difference from the most expensive 32" TV with the best upscaler going. Buy a $45 non-upscaling player and, well, the results will look really crappy.

**EDIT: I should add: The Dayteks are generally "World TV's" so they'll cheerfully cleanly display PAL-576 format stuff with quite respectable scaling. This makes them nicer than many TV's for displaying DVD's from UK/much of Europe/Australia, assuming you have a world DVD player that reads and outputs PAL. Not that that matters if you don't buy DVD's from outside North America, but if you do...

So, if you buy the Daytek, budget $150 or so to "soon" buy a decent upscaling player for DVD's, and resign yourself to merely 'adequate' analog TV viewing.

I expect you'll be very pleased with game consoles/upscaled DVD's and the Daytek.

Good luck

Just came back from Costco. Seems like they don't stock this Daytek DM32. I guess I'll have to order it online. Actually I'm still thinking if I should get a bigger one. Since I'm using it for my PC only. 32" seems like a lot bigger than my Acer AL1916w right now. And 37" might be way too big. On the movie side, I only watch stuffs in DIVX.

Got my TV and have it hooked up. I'm using it for my PC only. Everything looks great, expect one problem here. Everytime the PC switches resolution the screen will go blank. Let say 1360x768 -> 800x600 (this will be fine) but then from 800x600 -> 1360x768 = blank screen. I noticed that when I was playing AOE last night. Same thing will happen if I the power saving mode is on. The screen saver will turn on from the Daytek but when I tried to rusume it, it will stay blank again.

Anybody knows how I can fix this?

edit----all i see is a black screen when i plug the vga port in...then a few secs later the little butterfly comes on

So if the TV works with the PC hooked up to it, why would you suspect the TV and not the Xbox settings? Or the Xbox cable?

why do they advertise this if its not working?

Can someone tell me if the speakers on the DT4040 are removable? If not, it's too wide to fit in my cabinet and fixing that would entail some serious renovations...

I'm a little late in responding but No, they are not removable.

Is anyone aware of how one would tweak or calibrate this set?
If I had my Costco bill I would return the set and get a refund and look at an upgrade, but for the most part it is a decent unit

Quote: got mine 2 days ago. As soon as I turned it on, I got my worst nightmare on a brand new TV. A huge stuck red pixel in the center. I coudn't get my eyes off it! I was real pissed!! Thx to Costco, they have a 30 days satisfaction policy. So I returned the TV the days after, even though stuck-pixels are not covered by the warranty. They gave me a new one with no question asked barely, the exchange went like a charm. The new one has every pixels working fine. Now I'm happy. I just love it. And also when I bought it it just went down another 100$!! Now at Costco DT3220 1 199.99$!!! Nothing can compare to that TV at that price!! And the picture is amazing!!

Really? read my Toshiba Regza http://www.digitalhome.ca/forum/showthread.php?t=55656&page=2
The replacement unit they brought as a pixel that stays lit green, looks like a sniper rifle light when it goes across someones face. I dont see why that would not be covered. The tech did not even argue he said right away "We will bring you another replacement." He then wanted me to sign for it I did but only after I had him put the defect and write that a replacement unit would be provided on the bill.
