I got Pace DC551HD from Rogers store a week ago. PQ is as good as of SA HD top box, except the quality of closed caption. Closed caption of Pace , especially with HD caption, is so blurred, not crystal clear like in the SA. It seems Pace use lower resolution for its closed caption.

Check to make sure that the CC options are still at the "default" settings on the Pace. Sometimes if someone has changed these settings, the CC may look differently from the default. You get into the CC setup by pressing the settings button twice and scrolling through the selections until you get to CC.

I tried every CC options in the Settings. None is looking good to compare with the SA HD box. All 8 styles in character are blurred. When you set the background into clear mode, it's not clear but slight gray shade, meanwhile in the SA, it's really clear with the character's dark gray outline so you can read easily even on pictures which has the same color as CC character color. When the background is set into slight mode, the Pace gives you almost opaque meanwhile the SA gives you a real semi-transparent background

Anyone know what the remote control code for the Pace 551 STB is? I want to set another remote to be able to handle the Pace 551STB. TIA.

Found the answer elsewhere....the code is 043

Run the advanced setup wizard properly and also the "set picture format" to "passthrough" or Auto-HDMI. Please note that some TVs do not accept 480i signals via HDMI. See:

Also, do a cold reboot of the STB (unplug/replug).

Once you're done, see: More information. (http://www.digitalhome.ca/forum/showthread.php?t=57741)

I just got this box and thought it came with a firewire port? The book I guess says its optional but could it be still inside but covered up?

I was really hoping to hook it up with my mythtv setup.

See the following Firewire thread on Rogers. You may need to get the SA3250HD, or the SA8300HD PVR.

About a week ago I exchanged my Pace 551 Rogers HD STB because the original one was giving pink flashes between channel changes. The new one works fine but now I can't record from the Pace STB to my Samsung DVD-R155 whereas before I could. A message flashes on the screen to the effect 'you cannot record copyrighted material'.

Then I tried copying from another STB box I have in the house, an older SA digital STB, and it allowed the TV program to be recorded.

Question.....has Rogers implemented something recently in their HD STB's that prevents recording TV programs ?

See the following thread.

This has been in place for a while though and usually only affects recent movies on channels like TMN. It should work fine with other channels/programming.

I assume you're using a composite or S-video connection to the DVD recorder?

Yes I am using S-Video from the Pace STB to the DVD recorder. I cannot record any channel......I get the same message that 'you cannot record copyrighted material'. The original Pace STB could record....no issues. I've got to believe Rogers Cable is sending something down with the signal now that causes the Samsung DVD recorder to display the message.

This may be some sort of issue with your particular Pace STB (you said your previous one was fine too), or perhaps the settings in it - although the settings should not affect the S-video output. Perhaps you can exchange it for an SA3250HD to see if that solves the problem. Or perhaps for another Pace 551.

If Rogers had changed something that affects all the STBs you would have seen it on your other STBs and also this forum would have been inundated with comments (we haven't).

Have you tried a cold reboot (unplug, wait 10 seconds, replug) of the STB?

Try the composite connection?

Damn pace, just picked up the box and wont let me see any channels. Says to order service on the channels. Is this the whole issue about them having to scan it in and all? Is this hard to resolve?

Twonxanity, you have to call your serice provider to get your STB activated. You should then be able to see all the channels that you subscribe to. If not, a call to the service provider will rectify this as well - usually in just minutes.

Twonxanity, you have to call your serice provider to get your STB activated.

You can also do this online, if you log into your Rogers account: Online Self Service > Cable/Internet Services > Re-authorize terminal. Worked for me when I first set up my box.

That did the trick.....unplugged the Pace STB and then restarted it, and now I can record programs from the STB to my DVD recorder. Thx.

Hello All,

Please apologize if this question has been answered in a previous post/thread. I've poked around for the last few hours and haven't found an answer for my SD/HD problem. Here's my situation.

I just had my first HD TV delivered this afternoon (like a kid in a candy store all day long!) - Panasonic TH-42PX75U.

I'm running component out of my Pace DC551P and I'm trying to figure out a way so that the box auto-stretches or justifies the SD signal in order to remove the bars on either side of the screen (pet peeve and burn-in worries). I don't want it to zoom which cuts off a good chunk of the screen.

Ideally I want to be able to flip the channel from a full screen stretched/justified SD channel to HD without having to mess with either the box's aspect ratio or my TV's. I fiddled with both the HD setup wizard and the 'passthrough' 'fixed' settings. I do know Bell ExpressVu has a similar setting, can it be done with my Rogers/Pace box?

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated. Man I love HD!

Cheers.

You don't get the STB to do this. You set the TV to stretch the SD (480i) signals (using Just for example) and the HD channels will automatically be forced to "full" (or chose that setting for HD) by the TV (this is the opposite of the BEV STBs, where the STB does the work instead of the TV). The TV automatically senses the different signals (SD/HD) and you should be all set.

You need to run the advanced setup wizard in the STB, enabling 480i STANDARD, 720P and 1080i and go into the Settings menu (press settings twice) and choose Passthrough in the "Set Picture format" menu. If the TV has an "info" or "status" or similar button on the remote, you can check the incoming signal format to confirm you have everything set properly.

This will not stretch the SD upconverted programmes on the HD channels, so either watch them as is, or switch to the equivalent SD channel and watch it stretched there. I do not recommend stretching the 4:3 upconverts because you may leave the image stretched when you return to a true HD programme, missing 33% of the programme.

Hey HD Guys and Gals,

A week or so ago I pulled the trigger and picked up a 42PX75U and so far I've been really pleased with the picture on both SD and HD programming. Just yesterday I started seeing a blueish/green line right down the middle (vertical) of the TV. It only shows up on SD channels and is sometime worse than others (depending on the image, very apparent on lighter colours like faces, or during cartoons).

When I first noticed I freaked...thinking it was the TV - but, after closely checking HD channels and popping in a DVD I noticed the line only appears on SD channels. Is it possible that its the signal coming in from my Pace cable box? If so, would it always appear in the same spot?

Any suggestions/solution would be much appreciated. ***note - I've had the contrast and picture turned to -3 since day one***
