I liek the sounds of the multimedia capabilities. Don't think i will buy it on launch day though. I will wait to find out how well it handles all my media files. Nice to hear my Ipod can hook to it as well. I really wish I hadn't purchased an xbox and media extender for over 300.00 back in January but oh well c'est la vie. I really really like th eidea of being able to turn the xbox on with the remote....my biggest pet peeve with the original xbox.

Has anyone worked out the actual take home cost?

Xbox 360 = $575
Game= $92

=$667

Add one additional accessory and you'll easily be over $700.00

I was really looking forward to this system, but I don't think I'm a big enough gamer to swallow that price tag (and I didn't even include the twenty bucks in gas to get back and forth to the store) :).

It sure adds up in a hurry...I just found out I've got to replace the tranny in my van which is $2600 and will definitley put a dent in my 360 plans. Looks like i'll have to get a second job.

Yeah Right and 640 K of ram is all anyone will ever need.

In this case I think he might be right. The only purpose of HDCP (I think) is to eliminate the possiblity of recording the digital output from your DVD/HD-DVD/BluRay/etc. player.

Since recording the digital output of a videogame is useless for pirating, I can't see HDCP ever being implemented on games...

But it will be there because it will also play DVD's

just wait for the price drop when the ps3 comes out. i'm guessing it will go down a 100 bucks.

I just meant that the quote you were refuting is actually true, and will always be true (unlike the 640k ram thing).

HDMI/DVI might be able to give you a slightly better picture, but will never be a requirement for HD gaming. The only reason you'd need HDMI is so you can implement HDCP, and I can't see why anyone would want to encrypt the video/audio signal of a video game.

Hey all. I know $499 seems like a hefty tag, but consider this:

* IIRC, when Xbox first launched it was $599 - no headset, no wireless controller, no HD breakout cables, no remote etc. (of course the 360 has no games included so I guess maybe this balances it out somewhat but still its $100 cheaper...)
* The XBox 360 includes the functionality of (for example) a LinkSys Wireless Media Extender (http://www.futureshop.ca/catalog/proddetail.asp?logon=&langid=EN&MSCSProfile=3C79F0C7EA3162B2AD2D24472DF6467FC414BBAD4B973EE1 9BA32810A0AACF5E3FE0EDB6D377C56823416D3738652D2B80583860A5D1 BC9682D4D64758B63D51199FF80381E320AF9E5F29B86B9C93157FC3B71B 789EC762455784BF03950D054FF8C1FED21F5BFDC2F551C8583563D898A4 F07859EBC29D5E405CF9A15F88B2BD2FA6BA47E1A3C025C660FD229725C7 3D6E5C95C7188406C187FECFC99ED908F46E1826C864BF8AB6314C26A682 7CF0CFEBAF651331EFA6C2F0BA8039FEC7C741DEA3A220527C3B8BDA963B D1549754&sku_id=0665000FS10062109&catid=10864), for no extra cost. OK so you would need the Microsoft Wireless USB adapter, but even if you subtracted, say $150 for that, that is still $250 worth of functionality in a $500 package.

Still sounds like a good deal to me... <shrug>

PS: For those still unable to find the CAD pricing it is here on the FS website (http://www.futureshop.ca/catalog/subclass.asp?catid=23363&logon=&langid=EN&MSCSProfile=3C79F0C7EA3162B2AD2D24472DF6467FC414BBAD4B973EE1 9BA32810A0AACF5E3FE0EDB6D377C56823416D3738652D2B80583860A5D1 BC9682D4D64758B63D51199FF80381E320AF9E5F29B86B9C93157FC3B71B 789EC762455784BF03950D054FF8C1FED21F5BFDC2F551C8583563D898A4 F07859EBC29D5E405CF9A15F88B2BD2FA6BA47E1A3C025C660FD229725C7 3D6E5C95C7188406C187FECFC99ED908F46E1826C864BF8AB6314C26A682 7CF0CFEBAF651331EFA6C2F0BA8039FEC7C741DEA3A220527C3B8BDA963B D1549754)

There's no question that the Premium package is the way to go. Don't forget thought that the remote is for a limited time after which it wont be inlcuded with the Premium package.

No, the original Xbox launched @ $450, same as the PS2.

CAD? Are you certain? I am positive it was an even multiple of $100... either 500 or 600
