Proteosome 2005-08-19, 12:41 PM But seriously people are VERY upset that Core does not have a hdd. Bottom line it's the hdd that's got people pissed not the price.
I would have to agree. One of the best things about Xbox 1 was the HDD. I have always hated memory cards especially when all your data suddenly goes "poof."
The lack of an HDD will also make it difficult for the XBOX to become a media center hub.
Standard wireless controllers were also promised. This was to be the next revolution. All the next-gen consoles were promoting wireless as standard and not only for controllers.
Component cables and digital audio should be included if they are promoting all games in HD and they truly want customers to be able to take advantage of the offerings.
I guess what it amounts to is not the cost, but the fact that the core XBOX 360 offers very little of the promised next gen extras that MS is touting are so great about their system.
heybirder 2005-08-19, 01:13 PM I can't really get that worked up over the annoucement. The 360 will come with wireless controller, component cables and a hd like they said. The other sku is a very basic entry level system. I do think it would of been better to have a hd on both because they tout Live as such an intergral part of the xbox but I guess there wasn't enough to differentiate the two then.
I bought a Sega Saturn system on release for $499 CND so considering what the 360 has to offer, I'm not going to cry foul.
buritto 2005-08-19, 01:15 PM It's just the hdd MS that's all that the negativity is towards...the other stuff would cool right down. But many, actaully a lot can't look get past the hdd part...
But look at this new broucher leak...

sezer_79 2005-08-19, 01:38 PM Don't hold your breath guys.
Soon after Xbox 360 is released there will be patches released as well for the Xbox.
Let me re-enforce my point again.
Microsoft is the best at marketing crappy products. Most of us are using Windows are we not? Case and point!!
buritto 2005-08-19, 02:16 PM I don't understand what you mean by patches? Games are patched. Do you mean the system?

What I said was more of a sarcastic remark than anything else. However, with Microsoft you gotta expect the unexpected. So I would not be surprised if there were patches for the system down the road.
dialog_gvf 2005-08-19, 06:04 PM How about this then:
Neither XBOX360 will have HDCP (DVI or HDMI). So, it won't be able to:
- Simply add an HD DVD or Blu-Ray (yeah, right) drive for HD movies.
- The claims about streaming HD movies from a Windows Media Edition server to an XBOX360 are seriously misleading, since it won't be able to output HD DVD/Blu-Ray in HD even if it is certified to accept the streams by AACS. (They mean OTHER HD movies).
The XBOX people are saying "component HD is good enough for gaming".
What do people using panel based HD TVs think about that?

R U a sony lover, xbox as far as I know has had no problems except a power cord that they are paying for, atleast with MS they sell at a reasonable price and fix any problems,Sony (all products) are overpriced and no support it's never thier fault.
Oil fan 2005-08-19, 06:32 PM sezer_79....So your saying that the Xbox was a crappy product???
YOUR WRONG...case and point.
HammerJoe 2005-08-19, 07:27 PM I guess economy is not that bad despite the oil increases we've been seing lately.
If people can afford *game consoles* that cost $600 and on top of that pay $80 for a game and a regular subscription for their online services...
It will be the day I will fork that kind of money for a gaming machine... geez.
Thats simply too much.
buritto 2005-08-19, 09:20 PM Interesting inflation numbers from previous console launches...

sezer_79 2005-08-22, 11:12 AM Look. I'll tell you something. I work in the computer/technology industry. I have a lot of experience with Microsoft products, both hardware and software.
The original XBOX is good, it does what it's supposed to do. Pop in a game and go crazy. But with today's competition and demand for more from the consumers the XBOX 360 just doesn not cut it, especially compared to the Playstation.
Microsoft does make decent hardware. I have a wireless keyboard/mouse combo (Microsoft), Racing wheel (Microsoft), game pad (Microsoft). No complaints what so ever. But when it comes to software that's used to run computers/XBOX they are just not up to par.
One day on the train on my way home I over heard a guy talking on his cell phone (he was pretty loud, I think the whole car heard him). His buddy calls him up on his cell phone and they're chatting about his new car and etc etc. A little later on this guy starts tearing into the new XBOX 360 and he continues with the following "I used to work for Microsoft". He couldn't stop bragging about the Playstation 3.
CASE AND POINT. Here you have an ex Microsoft employee ripping into their XBOX 360. Why? Because he knows how Microsoft works. MARKETING, MARKETING and more MARKETING.
How many of you including myself are running Microsoft XP at home, again CASE AND POINT!!
Any of you remember NOVELL back in the day. Kick a** product. Microsoft killed them, why you say? MARKETING I say.
Gee I wonder why Active directory is so remisecent of NOVELL???
Their marketing strategies works, espcially on the public which has little to no knowledge about this stuff because they don't have the technical background or because they are not technical period.
You could have the best product in the world, if you don't have the marketing you're basically screwed.
On the other hand, you could have a half a** product which you claim to be the best because you can market, then hey, you are going to sell.
again CASE AND POINT!
heybirder 2005-08-22, 12:10 PM Any of you remember NOVELL back in the day. Kick a** product. Microsoft killed them, why you say? MARKETING I say.
Well imho (got my CNE '92) , what killed Novell was a number of things not related to marketing. They did not implement a proper tcp/ip stack and stuck with their ipx protocol too long. The Internet was begining to boom and you couldn't connect (We needed to use a 3rd party proxy server). Version 4-4.01 was quite lousy. As Windows desktops began dominating the workplace, Novell client software was extremely buggy - Microsoft was partly to blame but in the end Novell LAN's weren't well suited to Windows. Finally, it was very easy to write Windows services compared to NLM's and the developers migrated to that platform.
Microsoft markets well, like lots of other companies. More importantly what they could do in the OS/software world was put huge pressure on OEMs to get what they wanted or make people wait for their products. That's where their power was. In the game console world, they can't do that as Sony has that honor. They need to deliver tangile results and we'll all have to see in a couple months if they can deliver. Why would any gamer not want to play true 720p games?
sezer_79 2005-08-22, 12:22 PM Yeah. Let's wait and see what happens. But from first comparisons and impressions Sony seems to be way ahead of MS.
As a consumer I woud like my money's worth. I feel that I would get that from Sony in terms of a gaming console, even if it costs me a little bit more ( I am not a Sony lover by any means)
Personally my point of view in terms of purchasing tecnology has been if you save now you will suffer later. Of course don't go out there and buy the most expensive console you see. Do your research and identify your needs and make a decision based on that. It's easy to get sucked in with all the clever marketing today.
HammerJoe 2005-08-22, 12:29 PM Hmmm, so what you are saying is that the Xbox is not better than Playstation 2?
The games kinda say it is but it's just me.
(I don't like both, games are unapelling to me.)
sezer_79 2005-08-22, 12:34 PM I'm actually a PC gamer. However, the Playstation is more attractive for me. I would not pick the XBOX 360 over the Playstation 3.
Of couse I could always stick with my PC.
jaazzman 2005-08-22, 03:54 PM The original XBOX is good, it does what it's supposed to do. Pop in a game and go crazy. But with today's competition and demand for more from the consumers the XBOX 360 just doesn not cut it, especially compared to the Playstation...
So what exactly was the Xbox supposed to do? Cook toast? Clean your apartment? I put in a game, push power, and by miracles of technology, I can play a game. No, it doesn't wash my dog or drive me to work, but it plays games, which is what I paid for.
As for all the comments about the 360 is better, NO, the PS3 is better... until they are BOTH available in stores and we have a chance to really sit down and do a comparison, its ridiculous to argue that one is better than the other. Yes, I'm sure the PS3 is more powerful than the 360, but the Xbox was more powerful than the PS2 and there are some incredible games being released for the PS2. It doesn't come down to sheer power, and it doesn't come down to who pays the most for marketing. This is all very reminiscent of a bunch of 12 years old arguing about whether the Super Nintendo or the Sega Genesis was better. Relax people. Pick the one you want and be happy about it. Bashing the other guy proves nothing except that you are pro one compay or anti the other...
CASE AND POINT.

Dude that's an awesome idea!!! :p If they can just get it to make coffee we'd be laughing. Then we can stay up and just keep playing. :o
