April 27, 2005 -- LIVE from New York, it's high-def Saturday night. (http://www.nypost.com/entertainment/45423.htm) "Saturday Night Live" is the latest NBC late-night show to undergo a high-definition revamp. Studio 8H, where the long-running sketch comedy show is filmed, will be completely refitted with high-definition equipment by next October. (http://www.nypost.com/entertainment/45423.htm)

8H is also used for Carson Daily's show, so expect to see him in HD as well.

Oh boy, more contradictory statistics:

It is estimated that of the 105 million TV homes in the U.S., little more than 6 million have HDTV sets. But that number is expected to grow to around 16.2 million by 2008, according to the Consumer Electronics Association, an industry trade group.

Yet, we have this from hugh's series:

Estimates about the number of HDTV’s in the US and Canada vary widely, but typically most estimates suggest that approximately 40% of North American households will have HD capable sets in their home by the end of 2007.

Maybe the former meant a little more than 6 million people are watching HDTV in the US?

Hey, that's great news.

Now if only SNL was still funny...

Too bad. According to this site, HD will probably be dead long before October :P So none of us will ever see SNL in HD. Too bad they wasted all that money on all those new cameras.

I wonder what Rogers is going to do with all those soon-to-be-useless HD boxes?

snl in hd :) sounds great, now if only they could get Mango back on for a guest appearance, those gold tight short shorts he wore would have looked awesome in hd, lol.

Will Ferrell was the only reason to watch SNL in the past 10 years.. I don't know how a show could be so consistently unfunny for so long and still be on the air. Let's hope that the move to HD improves the writing, too!

Was a repeat tonight, Will Ferrell was actually hosting. No HD.

It'll be interesting to see the detail or lack there off of the sets they slap together.

Well, it was in HD. Both on NBC and Global.

Still wasn't very funny though ... they've been struggling for a quarter-century now! :-)

Where are you getting Global HD? Not OTA I am guessing

I thought the only funny part was Steve Carrel's opening song & dance number

Freaking NBC Seattle. The 1 show I want to see this week in HD, and they can't get it right. A pox on all their houses.

Where are you getting Global HD? Not OTA I am guessingRoger cable. I don't know what Global does OTA ... don't care really, I don't think I've watched much of anything OTA in Ontario since sometime in the mid 1970's!

For me the only funny part was Mike Myers, when Kanye West bumped into him in the back hallways. I remember how confused Myers was when Kanye West went on his "Bush hates black people" rant during the Hurrican Katrina telethon.

Myers said something about his American citizenship being revoked after that episode.
