I'm glad to hear that BEV is adding some new content. My hope is that with some new channels they will realign their weird themes and put music with music etc. As for some of the comments about missing BEV content think of the channels that *C is missing (e.g. Much Loud etc). All of the carriers have their issues. Rogers has their dopey PVR fee for instance. I have stuck it out with BEV because of content (for the most part) and pricing. When I have to switch from being an ultimate 7 customer to their newer themes I will probably leave because for me it is a $10 - $15 increase to keep my favourite channels. If they realign their themes to make more sense or offer channel bundling al la Rogers (10 for so much $, 15,20 etc) then I will happily stay with BEV warts and all. CBC HD, Fox news.. getting better BEV! :D

They will never make you change as long as you are happy with what you get.
I am still on the locals only package, with the HDTV free preview.
Well, I have had that HDTV free preview since day one. I pay 20.00 a month, and get all the canadian locals, plus pick up the US channels in HD from both time zones, plus the canadian HD channels for free.
New customers pay 37.00 a month for what I pay 20.00 a month for.
Bell told me as long as I stay in my current package it won't change, but if I change packages, then I have to go to the new rates. I say screw that, and stick with my little package with the free HD channels. I put in basic cable throughout the house for the channels like CNN and A&E that I don't currently get on sat. Still cheaper to have both cable and sat than to upgrade my sat package, and then buy a bunch of extra receivers for all the tv's around the house.

Ummm... don't think so... that's almost as funny as the previous stand-up routine that made me laugh! If we only had Direct or Dish to choose from, we wouldn't have TSN or Sportsnet or CBC (main and Newsworld) or Discovery Canada (sheesh... no comparision there when it comes to Disco. U.S...) Nor would we have TMN/MC's originals... nor Showcase or Space... or local news and weather... and for general news, the closest we'd come to reasonable, unbiased reporting would be CNN... ouch! Almost as bad as Fox News... but not quite, thankfully...

I used to sub to dtv, and quite frankly I got real tired of the crap that they were sending. American TV is far too regulated. Only channel I enjoyed was HBO, and the problem with that they don't air all the movies. No, you have to subscribe to HBO / Cinemax, Showtime / TMC, and Starz / Encore to see all the blockbuster movies that we see on TMN/Movie central here.
When I had directv, in addition to the 49.00 a month that were clipping me for their basic service, I had another 30.00 or so a month for the movie channels, and that was US $.

Now on Bell, I am paying 20.00 a month for basic service (with my HD channels thrown in, as I am grandfathered)
I still get the US movie channels on C band which is cheaper than it was with directv, but I am still forced to subscribe to HBO/MAX/SHOWTIME/STARZ/TMC to get the full selection of movies.
The only reason I still sub, is for HBO / STARZ and Showtime HD channels which I get on the big dish as they are all full time HD channels. (All I watch)
I dropped directv because they forced me to take a channel package before I could get movies, and directv only had 3 HD channels.

Now, if only I could get bell to sell me a 9200 PVR. Now they only rent :(

Exactly the point: we have a lot more freedom here than our poor cousins south o' the border: the draconian measures the FCC uses to impose restrictions would never be tolerated here... especially in areas of concentration of ownership (Ever tried to find an interesting radio station in the States? It's hard to do, since increasing concentration of ownership means more "corporate radio" without much choice of what you can hear!) and adult stuff (recall the fiasco over the Janet Jackson "wardrobe malfunction"? Anywhere else in the civilized world, it would have been an utter non-issue, but you'd think the world had ended the way the FCC cracked down...)

'Nuff said. :D

What about shows like "The sopranos" on network television.
Hell will freeze over before you see sex and violence on over the air network television in the states. Then we have CityTV in Vancouver and Toronto which polute the airwaves with pornography eveny friday night. Then there is showcase. Sure it is a cable channel, but available on basic cable.
Never see that on open cable, or broadcast TV in the states.

I can understand your frustration with the lack of new channels...

... but bitching about the lack of new Porn/Sports/WWF etc. on this thread does NOTHING! (No the WWF it is not a Sport; its a friggin Soap Opera for Guys!)

Call or e-mail BEV instead of bitching here. If you don't tell BEV what you want directly, its as futile as being in the US and voting for BUSH the last two times: nothing good comes of it... :P

How does one get signal to Nimiq 82 as I do not see any new channels on the guide ? Do I need another dish on my apartment building rooftop or just a phone call away to request a new channel like GOLtv 404. ? I am setup as a regular MDU customer for the last 5 years (NOT EVU for Condos) Thanks

Hi there, as far as BEV customers are concerned, ch 404 does not exist for them. It is hidden and won't be enabled until BEV strikes a deal with Gol TV Canada. Email BEV and request it (http://www.goltvcanada.com/ on top fo the page)

I was merely using GOLtv as an example only. What about any other new channels that is already available in Nimiq 82 but MDU customers may not be linked to Nimiq 82 ?
Do I need additional equipment, or does BEV need to upgrade the rooftop dish in order for us to get the signal ?

for the channel 404 do you need the upgrade?

at the moment yes.
whether the two channels remain on the second satellite after they're released to the public, remains to be seen

I've heard that BEV will be picking up FuelTV (Fox) and HD Net. Anyone confirm this?

Also, has BEV dropped there 6 receiver limit? Last time I called CSR the guy mentioned this in addtion to a few other changes in billing when I changed to the Max 12 package.

Bell could only add FuelTV and HD Net if they were approved by the CRTC and the app. for HD Net's been collecting dust for quite some time.

Just received new 'Simplified Channel Guide' from Bell dated Nov. 1, 2005.

They are moving (or moved) a few channels around. Once change I don't understand is HD 829. Currently this channel shows full time HD content in a loop. New paper guide show a new channel called 'Barker Channel' at 829. Does anyone know about this service?

What will happen with the HD loop?

Also missing is the new HD Raptor channel on the guide

TJ77, thanks for the info. I'll see if I can get more the source to spit out some more substantial details.

And I confirmed with BEV CSR that they no longer have an additional receiver or 6 unit limit.

"Barker Channel" means a "demo channel" - also called a demo loop. It's not a new channel. It's the same one, just with a fancy new name

cool. here's to hoping they "unhide" Gol TV on ch. 404 as well. CGTV and Gol TV were put up on Nimiq 2 at the same time back in Nov 1st 2005

... and btw. it's Casino and Gaming TV ;-)

With the recent upgrades to the 5200 software, Channel M in Vancouver is now available on the regular receiver instead of just with the HD box. Now I can watch Law & Order with Chinese and Hindi commercials... very cool.:D
