Let's see, BEV carries CNN, CNN Headline News, MSNBC (US), BBC World and EuroNews from Europe and CTVNewsNet, CBC NewsWorld. Why would any self-respecting Canadian want to watch FoxNews and it's twisted, dishonest, right-wing (should I add anti-Canadian and anti-European) slant? I'm sure that channel could have been better used by BEV.
I guess I will take this *VERY RARE* time to say that BEV can not win. A few months ago everybody was complaining why BEV did not have FoxNews.
KSPSlice 2005-06-17, 01:49 PM MSNBC is not carried on Bell. And as a self-respecting Canadian I do watch Fox News.

longshadows 2005-06-17, 01:58 PM Finally, if more of you grey market/pirate Star Choice & BEV sat owners would pay for legit Canadian Sat signals, then our Canadian Sat Companies could afford to give us more of what we want...
Whoa, Docrobot... Speaking as one of those to whom you refer, I'd like to set the record staright that I do pay my full subscription fee for BEV as well as pay an annual fee to a Canadian to manage my account and each time I need a change done, I have to pay an additional fee to a Canadian. I bought my equipment at full price from a Canadian dealer. I pay the full price for the BEV service as well as provincial and federal taxes. So, please don't accuse us "grey market" viewers of not paying our way. We more than pay our way!
We just happen to value your country and the quality of your television programming enough to shell out that extra $50 to $100 per month for the priviledge. ;)

BEV still refuses to carry MSNBC but, chose to add Fox News instead. This suggests that many BEV subscribers requested Fox News. BEV's choice to carry Fox News was likely influenced by subscriber demand. BEV obviously paid attention to the number of requests it was receiving for Fox News.

Because we don't want to watch that dishonest, extreme left-wing Liberal, socialist, anti-American, anti-Conservative propaganda that's constantly coming out of the CBC and almost every other Canadian news source out there.

Hahahahaha!
That's funny... for a moment there, I thought you were serious! Then I realized that no self-respecting Canadian (or any non-American for that matter) could have such a delusional viewpoint. After all, living outside the U.S., we have the advantage of getting news that's not filtered through government-mandated "propaganda masquerading as patriotism"...
Good one... brightened up my day with a good laugh! :p :D
tonyblunt 2005-06-17, 04:33 PM In Canada we are subjected to the big-brother machinations of the CRTC who dictate that we should have hours of crappy Canadian-content plugging up our feed. Give me US-style freedom any day....

I could not agree with you more. If we had that freedom everyone would sub to dtv. That would mean an end to expressvu and *choice.

Ummm... don't think so... that's almost as funny as the previous stand-up routine that made me laugh! If we only had Direct or Dish to choose from, we wouldn't have TSN or Sportsnet or CBC (main and Newsworld) or Discovery Canada (sheesh... no comparision there when it comes to Disco. U.S...) Nor would we have TMN/MC's originals... nor Showcase or Space... or local news and weather... and for general news, the closest we'd come to reasonable, unbiased reporting would be CNN... ouch! Almost as bad as Fox News... but not quite, thankfully...
Nemnoch 2005-06-17, 06:11 PM hey tony, i'm not sure if you've heard of them or not, but just so you know, the FCC is the regulatory body in the US and almost, but not quite, as strict as the crtc in certain aspects.
Look it up sometime.
You make it sound like we live in a communist regime. It's television. relax.
Nem, who says that canada, despite tony's idea, is not the Gulag

This is probably BEV's attitude concerning American satellite television. I think the issue is more complicated than that.

Exactly the point: we have a lot more freedom here than our poor cousins south o' the border: the draconian measures the FCC uses to impose restrictions would never be tolerated here... especially in areas of concentration of ownership (Ever tried to find an interesting radio station in the States? It's hard to do, since increasing concentration of ownership means more "corporate radio" without much choice of what you can hear!) and adult stuff (recall the fiasco over the Janet Jackson "wardrobe malfunction"? Anywhere else in the civilized world, it would have been an utter non-issue, but you'd think the world had ended the way the FCC cracked down...)
'Nuff said. :D
NormL 2005-06-17, 06:43 PM Folks, we seem to be moving away from the topic of this thread.
Let's get back to the topic at hand please.

Just what I was thinking!
Jenna JamesonRulez 2005-06-18, 10:07 AM I am hoping, use that word loosely, that BEV after this completed card swap will add more channels. Yes I want my Porn, Adult Movies XX Movies whatever you wanna call em. I wanna see Jill kelly, Sydnee Steele, Jenna Haze. And if Rogers, Shaw and Star Choice carry all or some, I seen an ad in The Sun for AOV so they got an advertsising campaign going, I will sub to 2 of them for sure. I have watched Ten, Tenxtsy and Spice in the US on Satellite. And so why can't we have Hustler Canada, Redlight District and AOV on BEV if it is on thier competitors. I know it would dig into thier profit on the Venus PPV but I am not paying for each movie when there is a channel(s) out there that air these movies and others for only $30 for 2 channels a month.
If they don't by July 2006 when my bundle is up, bye bye BEV and back to Rogers after 5 years.
Altaman 2005-06-18, 10:16 AM This is the same thing as Boxing PPV, to see live what is free on HBO in the U.S. (in HD as well), we have to pay PPV. Remember we are in Canada, where corporate profits outways your access to what you want to watch.

Falcon 2005-06-19, 02:37 PM Not really relevant to this thread but I didn't feel like creating a new one. I just got a model 4100 that I'll be testing.
bclaringbold 2005-06-19, 04:53 PM falcon how did you manage to get involved in the testing?
What is this receiver? HD, SD, PVR, MPEG4? - is there a compataple dish network model? Sorry for all the questions but im interested.
Brad
Falcon 2005-06-19, 10:27 PM Nope it's as basic as it gets. It looks somewhat like the Dish Network 111. It does not have s-video output. The remote is like the IR remote used with the 3200.
EVUCSR 2005-06-20, 12:00 AM Bell said he has 2 choices either break the contract and pay $200 or continue paying for a sub for another 14 months then the contract is over. Bell said it is too bad about where he moved to that he should have stayed where he was and there would not have been any problem. He chose to break the contract and pay the $200.
All your friend had to do was go with the "moving promo" the installer would have come to install the dish at his new place, noted that the sub was in a place where he couldn't receive service now, AND THERE WOULD BE NO PENALTY FOR BREAKING THE CONTRACT. :)
