What's all the hype about Fox News?!!

We get another US channel that's making up the news, only with a right-wing slant to it!! Big deal!!

All these huge networks do is look for news that fits their narrow agenda (liberal or conservative) and if they don't find it they make it up. Maybe it's time to pry yourselves from the front of the TV and take a look at what's really happening outside of your little world. How does all the crap happening in the US really affect any of us!

End of rant

Pappcam, keep in mind what forum you are on. Most of us are here because we have an above average interest in TV. If this was a cycling forum there would be threads about gears, spokes, etc.

As for how the US affects us, we are tied to the US in many ways; most notably economically. I know some of my investments are US based.

FOX News Channel will be free on channel 507 (FOXNC) beginning May 1st until September 1st 2005.
where did you get this information?

i'm surprised to hear they're going to charge people extra for a channel that's basically the equivalent of CNN. what about the recent $3 price increase? shouldn't that cover the cost?

dirtyjeffer: BEV may have more channels, most of which are nothing but useless filler channels to look competitive for the big ads in the paper - "400 channels, the largest digital lineup in canada, 2/3 of which pure crap". in terms of adding useful channels like fox news and MSNBC, as well as discovery wings/military channel, bloomberg, MTV2, all of them are available on starchoice, TMN on demand, all of these channels and services are absent on BEV.

you're probably right, i don't believe there's a conspiracy not to add new american channels that directly compete with channels owned by globemedia. however, earlier this month the CRTC approved a request by CTV newsnet to change its formatting so that it could compete with channels like fox news. could this have been the reason for the delay of not adding fox news? either way, capacity or no capacity, as a customer i don't really give a ****. if bell want my business they need to play catch up to the rest and very quick. after all, the customers are the ones who decide if BEV stay in business or not.

I'm glad to hear that BEV is adding some new content. My hope is that with some new channels they will realign their weird themes and put music with music etc. As for some of the comments about missing BEV content think of the channels that *C is missing (e.g. Much Loud etc). All of the carriers have their issues. Rogers has their dopey PVR fee for instance. I have stuck it out with BEV because of content (for the most part) and pricing. When I have to switch from being an ultimate 7 customer to their newer themes I will probably leave because for me it is a $10 - $15 increase to keep my favourite channels. If they realign their themes to make more sense or offer channel bundling al la Rogers (10 for so much $, 15,20 etc) then I will happily stay with BEV warts and all. CBC HD, Fox news.. getting better BEV! :D

No Canadian cable or satellite provider that carries Fox News offers the news channel a la carte. It is only available grouped with other channels. This is why I think BEV will offer Fox News the same way. Maybe Fox News will be packaged with other news channels.

nope, it will be in Game Galaxy as part of Playin TV.;)

i wonder if BEV could offer a channel line-up where they would leave digital standard and premium movies where they are, and then charge "flat rates" for channels and you get to pick them, like the other poster here mentioned.

like 10 channels for $10, 20 channels for $15 and 40 channels $20...i wonder if a system like that is financially sensible.

That would be great!

I have a feeling some channels would be a lot less - subscribed to. For example, I just added Family 1 to my package, but could care less about all but two channels on it. There may be some channels with little or no viewership.

Mind you... If there were channels no one wanted, BEV would find out really quick whether to replace these channels with something else?

It would certainly give you more freedom to pick. ;)

exactly my point...bell wouldn't be wasting money and bandwidth on channels that weren't in "demand"...i guess the only downfall is, what if XYZ channel only has 5,000 people watching it, whereas FoxNews will have 100,000 viewers...do they anger the 5,000 people and remove their channel, simply to appease the 100,000?

i guess its a tough call.

maybe in the next year or so, Bell will put up a 500 transponder monster satellite that has enough capacity for 5000 HD channels. ;)

In regards to the bandwidth issue, didn't that get resolved by moving Nimiq 3 beside Nimiq 1? Or is Nimiq 1 getting retired/sold to somebody else?

I'm just trying to get my head around the fact that Bell has 2.5 satellites up there, but still not enough bandwidth.

one works ok, the other at 3/4 capacity, and the third one is an old piece of junk that has about half the capacity of the other 2. they may be able to squeeze a few lone normal channels but beyond that no way you'll see something new until they send another big bird up there.

Nimiq 1 and 3 are co-located . It doesnt buy BEV any addional bandwidth at 91 ! What you get is redundancy and a buch of channels with improved fade margin !

Nimiq 2 operates at 85% of designed capacity after power troubles shorlty after it went in to service .

Exactly how many new channels does bell have the capacity to add right now, with the equipment they have?

Any CVR's have an e-mail address that we can use to submit channel suggestions?

Just wondering.

Does Bell ever do surveys or take polls of what people would like to see, or do they just look at what others are providing?

Who determines what gets put up?

Any CSR's know?

Just asking.

No, nothing yet. I moved to rogers recently and i'm happy with my choice. I got fed up waiting for bell to add the channels i like watching. Rogers also gave me a really good offer.

ExpressingVu's: Obviously they try to be competitive with other service providers. Their main problem is they're limited by technology and they can't really add channels with the same ease as cable companies. You can try writing to them at bell's website asking for a specific channel to be added but they virtually never add channels that way. You'll just have to wait or take your business to a provider who carries the channels you're missing on BEV.

I have Rogers at home and BEV at my cottage. To me BEV wil lawys be a cottage type of system where 1 or two TVs is used. At home I have 5 TVs and satellite will kill my bill !!!
