I have an MX-3000 from Universal and I love it.

My friends think I am nuts for spending that kind of money but it was well worth it and it's fun to play with.

To me cost was the big factor, since I needed a universal remote for upstairs and one for down and we have 2 big dogs who sometimes munch remote controls. I opted for the silver RCA "learning" units. I've trained them to operate all AV equipment, including a camcorder and OTA DTV tuner. If one breaks, no harm done because I can go buy a replacement for about $35. The buttons are colour and shape differentiated so users can catch on fairly easy.

I have been told that Canadain Tire will be carrying a Harmony Remote for around $70 available late July.

Mikas, do you still have the MX-3000? Do you find it tilts over when you use the channel or volume buttons (when not picking up the remote)?

Did you look at the new Philips TSU-9600?

Don't waste your money on the Harmony 520. It's cheap and flimsy. It feels like it will break in half. And the buttons on it are horrible.

Sylvain,

I usually pick it up to do anything so had not noticed that.

I have been reading a lot about the new Philips TSU-9600 but I am concerned about the "form factor" in a similar way as with the MX-3000. I may stick with a Marantz RC-9500 with which you can perform a lot of operations with one hand. The screen resolution is the same as the MX-3000 actually. However, I have heard that the MX-3000 has an outstanding database of IR codes which the Marantz does not have...
