Have they categorically stated it would be THIS October? Remember a couple of years ago when the release date for the 530 was "this spring" and then "this fall" and "next summer"? Expect to see the new channels when they actually appear on your screen. One can only hope, sigh....

One thing to remeber, Mamma Shaw already has the stations on the air(or at least 3 of them). So I think it will be in the target date, just when!!!!!!??????

Can somebody help me

I have an Hitachi 51' HDTV and I just bought the 505a HD receiver but I don't find the image that great!!

Whenever I watch an HD channel, its great but when the image moves fast, I can see a lot of mosaic (mosaique in french) or pixels!! is that normal??? I don't think so

second when I watch a regular channel which is not HD, the image is even worst that regular cable

Do you know what may cause that problem???

What type of cables are you using to hook the receiver up to the TV?

(Coax / RCA (Yellow/White/Red / S-video / Composite (Red/Green/Blue) / DVI)

It sound like you are describing macroblocking. That can happen occasionally due to a problem at Starchoice, where they have mismatched the source data rate with the transmission data rate. Check some other channels and programs, and if it was only that one case, write it off to source problems.

All big-screen TVs have that problem. When you blow a standard def picture up bigger than normal on a high def screen, all the inherent problems get bigger. It usually looks fuzzy and the colour is washed out. You may see posterization or "clay face" look. If your TV's scaler is not very good, you may also see geometric effects like shimmering or jagged edges.

Some TVs are better than others a displaying SD, but these things help on most HDTVs:

1. Turn up the Sharpness setting for watching SD sources. It doesn't help the actual resolution, but it does make the picture look less fuzzy. If it's still too fuzzy for you, sit further away (at least 3x the screen size), or watch it at 4:3 ratio instead of blowing it up to wide screen.

2. Increase the Color (saturation), and make it a bit redder with the Tint control or a Warm colour temperature setting. Most CRTs have over-saturated colour and "red push" (too much red) compared to new HDTVs, so you're probably used to seeing the SD picture that way.

I get the macroblocking nearly all the time with fast moving images with my 505. :( I've just been chalking it up to a poor signal.

Huh. Any particular channels? What's your 505 set to output, 1080i or 720p?

Hmmm I talked with a tech support guy a few weeks ago when I had my DOA DSR530 set up and he suggested to leave the receiver at 0000 native??

True or False?

0000 setting will allow the TV to set the resolution itself and is the preferred method of setup.

Sounds to me like we'll be paying for these new HD channels, if not all HD, in the future...although you wouldn't know it from any Starchoice communication materials that I have seen...

It's already known that these channels will need to be paid for. SRC will join the free HD selection and the others (plus a couple yet to launch) will be essentially a 'HD plus' bundle.

National Geographic, Showcase, A&E and Discovery will be in a mini bundle for $4.99 starting January 1 2007. The channels we have now will remain free plus the addition of SRC HD. There is still room for one more channel. My guess is it willbe HDNet although if they take to long to get programming rights, I could see this vacant spot being filled by something else.

OMG! I know HDnet has come up before in discussions but do you really think its a real possibility?
I just looked at the programming, more importantly to me the sports and they have quite a few hockey games. I am all for this but is this for real by Starchoice?

Cheers

I beleive the rights to show the sports in Canada is one of the problems HDnet is facing right now.
