Eventually HD simsubbing will be a reality on StarChoice too. It may still be awhile away but it will be a reality soon.

Not the same way it is on BEV and not until Global/CTV have OTA HD signals in each market. Just because CTV has an HD signal in BC, does not mean that we will get CTV simsubs on channels here in Edmonton. Just like the regular U.S. nets, simsubs are rare and only appear when the same program is being played in my market.

My east feeds of U.S. nets never have simsubbing and when I watch on the west feeds, the BC market is playing the same program (Global/CTV) so no simsub here in Alberta for that either.

I notice that HD285 is being blacked out by TMN why not just give all viewers the MC. What we need is dedicated Network channels (east-west). I only watch HD channels even when they broadcast std tv programs. I miss Jeopardy 6:30P CST (where's WDIV-DT) put it back. Why are HD281 and HD 282 mostly duplicates? Why not use these two channels for say WGN or KTLA HD or Permanent PBS (WTVS-DT or KSPS-DT) feed.

WDIV-DT has had annoying video dropouts since I first started watching. After the switch to WGRZ-DT, the problem has disappeared.

Correct, NBC Detroit HD couldn't get their act together and got dumped.

So 283 is MC HD and 285 is TMN HD, so each region can get 8 channels.
They should spot beam them to each region to free up another national beam.

Too bad they use HD1 & HD2 to placate the small market cable operations with a pair of HD channels.

Let them get their own and dedicate ABC, CBS & NBC East & West for 6 channels.

That leaves 2 more more say a couple of true omnibus channles of WB/UPN/CITY and maybe a TSN/Sportsnet/Discovery.
Even if they have to time shift conflicting programs by playing back of a server.
With a DSR530 DVR, that wouldn't be a big deal.

I heard a rumour that SC was going to dedicate one of the omnibus channels to CBCHD and the other to SRCHD. It would explain why they haven't been added as yet. They need time to get their cable headends upgraded to carry dedicated channels. I for one want CBC HD, CBC doesn't simsub anyway since they carry their own unique schedule. CBC is doing reasonably well in carrying real HD unlike their BCE counterparts.

Only in markets served by OTA HD, currently Toronto, Montreal and Vancouver.
That leaves the rest of Canada unaffected.

Accept that they don't have the capacity to hold US and Canadian channels right now. Chances are they will only uplink Canadian channels instead of US channels. If they secure more satellite space somewhere else, then I'd imagin it will go in the direction that you are describing

I can't recall the last time I watched CBC.

What sort of stuff do they have in HD?

I'll try anything once.

I don't understand the significance of upgrading their cable headends?
I know they use HD1 & HD2 for small market cablecos.

Can anyone else phone *Choice and ask about TSN HD. I phoned them last week and they told me they had negotiated with TSN HD and that they would be offering it very soon, because of the big demand. I'm just wondering if they said that to me just to make my day.Thanks.

Hmmm does *choice offer different feeds for their HighDef programming. For instance, do i have a choice of feeds for this programming? I am in the west but would like to see the Eastern feeds high def channels?

Thanks

Actually you get BOTH.
The network HD feeds carry the Pacific Seattle and the Eastern Detroit with NBC Boston being the exception as NBC Detroit has technical problems with signal quality.

Customer service told me an hour ago that *choice was adding two or three more HD channels soon. :p

Well, I was kinda like oh..hum etc etc. Never bothered to ask. I guess I must have been a bit skeptical. Guess i will take the wait and see approach and if it shows up one day then yippeee! :p Hopefully he was telling the truth but don't know why he would lie so probably true.

Said today that I would have the unit in my hands June 1.

(I ordered it from him because he is my buddy, as opposed to any financial reason)

I was told by customer service that TSN HD was owned by Bell and they would not allow any other providers to carry it. I think this is crap because I'm sure other cable providers in this country already carry it. In fact I know for a fact that Eastlink is in the process of adding it to their HD line up.

The problem is Bell doesn't want *C to put the channel on an omnibus channel and cherry-pick the programming. Bell wants a dedicated channel.

Which, I'll say again, is highly convenient being that Bell also owns Telesat, who Star Choice will have to lease extra transponder space from.

TSN will be on *choice and has nothing to do with Bell not wanting to share. *choice also sends channels to BEV. ;) And this would be bad business practice. Thus TSN is a high priority. Along with probably Global Toronto perhaps.
