I put in an order back in April to suspend my service until the fall. I have a 505 reciever, and connect to a JVC HD RP widescreen.

All of my channels were properly disconnected but I've since continued to recieve all of the HD channels.

Interesting...

Had anyone else experienced this??

One similar experience is that I downgraded to Digital Basic for the summer and still get all the HD channels (except TMN). That's pretty cheap HD in my opinion at $20/month.

I believe they have to "flip a different switch" for HD... when I had my 505 activated in January, I had to make a second call to get the HD channels to come up.

The trick with the HD channels is the way their added to an account. Although the channels carry no cost, they are a seperate 'package', for want of a better term. I think the reason a lot of people still get the channels after a downgrade or putting their account on hold is because the CSR didn't remove the HD package from the account. Because it carries no cost, the account management software doesn't check to make sure the package is still valid for the account (like for example if you selected the wrong number of bundles for Platinum Choice) and the CSR doesn't get flagged to remove it. The billing amount looks correct, so they never notice.

The admin team should really run a report to check if the monthly billing is less than the value of bronze choice and the HD service is still on the account. That way they could correct the oversight. Evidentally they don't!

It's a good way to get cheap, or free, US Network TV though!! :)

all we need to do is add the HDT code to the account in CBS for channels to come in (HD channels)

Only until you watch them.
Treasure and Oasis are on Bell currently and a waste of bandwidth.

The Equator and Rush, now those are 2 worthy ones.
Watched them on my Voom box and now on the Dish box.
Absolutly fantastic programming.

These two will launch on Bell in Sept.

Kinda like how you're always over in the BELL forums putting in your 2 cents.

Difference being ARR is an industry analyst who actually uses multiple systems, not just Starchoice.

That's right, NINE dishes and over 2 dozen different set tops boxes (5 PVR's) in regular use spanning ALL PROVIDERS! (5)

Starchoice just happens to be my personal favourite!

Not a good enough excuse for name calling, simply because the guy is with Bell. Actually, there's no excuse for that. It's a forum for a reason...to discuss matters. His comments are just as welcome in this forum for SC, as are yours in the Bell forum, regardless if he owns the service or not.

In my opinion, a person should NOT be able to post a comment unless they sub to the service, or have subbed to it in the past, otherwise it's a useless comment at that! Now questions posted by someone who has done neither, is a different matter.

I think people on both forums, (with or without service) should know the difference between both companies HD offerings. Bell charges $10 for 30+ HD channels and has plans to add 7 more before fall this year, and Star has 14 free HD channels and can add only 2 more without going MPEG4 or buying more transponder space, (which they have not tried to do). One company locks you into a 2yr term, the other a 1yr term, ect....

I personally have watched about 4 shows total on Oasis and Treasure HD, not very much, but that was 4 more shows that I could have watched off any other western provider. The other two channels from this company look great I am sure I will enjoy even more shows.

If we want to have a frank discussion concerning the future of HD and the two national providers I would leave you with this; Starchioce offers a good product for a fair price, they have the majority of channels seen on other providers and keep their subs happy with very good customer service, but they lack in three areas, PPV sport packages, Ethnic programming and HD. I have not seen a willingness from Starchioce to increase their offerings in any of these based on transponder limitations to date. Over the next year we will see channels either switching to HD or new HD channels being added at the rate of 10 or so a month. Discussion within the industry is that Canada will have access to close to 100 HD channels by end of 07, and 200 by end of 08.

My question to this forum is how will Starchioce adapt? How many channels can they carry even if they go MPEG4, (and will they swap out older boxes in the field?)? With Bell about to sell Telesat will we see an increase in cost of transponder space and will it effect Starchioce’s decision? These and others are the true questions you should be asking, not will they add NHLCI or 2 HD channels.
