: Official Star Choice HD Programming Discussion
satellite 2006-01-27, 06:33 PM Last year, the SD broadcast of the superbowl was simsubbed with Global, as they've got the Canadian rights.
HD was not simsubbed. As Global HD is not offered, I don't believe the HD broadcast will be simsubbed. (At least not until Global or the CAB make a complaint to the CRTC and they're forced to carry Global HD just for the superbowl...)
redsoxfan 2006-01-27, 07:04 PM I pretty much only watch shows that are in HD now unless there's something on SD that I really want to see.
I'm the exact same way now!
The only SD programming I watch is on Speed (for things like Craftsman Truck Series racing and other events, plus some of their NASCAR news programming) and the NFL Network.
I'm completely blown away by PBS HD. Their upconverted programs look really good but the true HD programs are simply stunning.
BobJones 2006-02-03, 11:34 AM Can you believe that the Animal Planet in the US will be broadcasting Puppy Bowl II on Sunday and Animal Planet in Canada won't?
What kind of sad, unsympathetic people are making these programming decisions?
Does this mean I have to watch football?
satellite 2006-02-03, 01:09 PM I'm sorry, I had to Google (http://www.google.com/search?lr=&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&q=Puppy%20Bowl%20II) the "Puppy Bowl"!
Apperently it promises to be the "cutest game on TV".
And yes, Animal Planet's Canadian schedule is way different from the US schedule.
superbry 2006-02-25, 03:54 PM Is anyone else disappointed in the amount of actual HD ( not upconverted) programming that CBCHD is showing with the Olympic? Some of the events are being shown on NBC in HD but not on CBC.
superham 2006-02-25, 04:24 PM CBC rent an optical link to get the pictures from Torino, but they don’t have enough bandwidth, so they can’t broadcast all the competitions in HD. The bandwidth is very expensive!!!!!!$$$$$$$$$
Voxxon 2006-02-26, 05:50 PM I am very dissapointed in how little HD coverage CBC has shown. The re-broadcast of the hockey games is in SD. I watched a lot more coverage on NBC so I could see it in HD.
Lester 2006-03-03, 03:30 PM I agree - the lack of HD programming on an imprtant feature like the Olympics and CBC were not able to show the events in HD was very disapointing. Watched NBC instead. I am also disappointed in the fact that SC does not show the Discovery channel in HD. Why they would opt for American chennels over Discovery Canada is beyond me

bobbyt 2006-03-07, 09:45 AM Did fox detroit get a lot softer looking this week? Are we making more bandwidth for a new channel?
esdras 2006-03-08, 05:32 PM Hello - new to the forums here - but I have lurked for a long time - I have received a LOT of useful info - Thanks!
Just thought I would offer an FYI - although I cannot confirm any of this...
I got a call from *C today - a Customer Service check - wanting to know if I was a happy camper - I said yes, for the most part.
Talked to the guy about future HD services - he said to expect one hopefully by June.
3 or 4 channels.
He wouldn't confirm what they are, but he said that there has been a LOT of demand for Discovery and CityTV - I would guess those will be added.
Additionally, he said that even with the new HD, there is still NO plan to levy an HD access fee - *C, by his comment, is intent on being the largest Canadian provider of no charge HD.
Hopefully, this will be confirmed soon.
Captain.Crash 2006-03-09, 12:17 AM Any news on "The Score HD" ???
I know Rogers has it and i think BEV does...
magnet 2006-03-09, 10:22 AM See post #49 in the Score HD Thread:

Kevin270 2006-03-09, 06:19 PM To those of us who enjoy watching Charmed and Smallville, these shows are both unavailable with StarChoice in High Definition. I notice that Bell and Rogers carries HD networks that provide both of those shows in high def. I'm hoping *C catches up with the others.
satellite 2006-03-09, 07:25 PM There is suddenly alot more "buzz" surrounding StarChoice/Cancom adding more HD, so I'm guessing it must not be too far off.
cellarboy 2006-03-09, 08:12 PM There's a posting on the Cancom site regarding transponder changes for CBC and CTV HD on April 27th. Didn't someone mention that date in regards to new services coming online? Transponder shuffles often co-incide with new channels.
Something is stirring, thats for sure. If the rumors of the discounted transponder rental for HD channels is true, they must have gotten some extra transponder space from somewhere.
Very exciting if Shaw have finally decided to get serious on HD.
magnet 2006-03-10, 12:08 PM Charmed is not filmed in HD.
However, Everybody Hates Chris is in HD on Sundays.
A few more "CITY Great Movies" in HD would also be a bonus.
Rumours of DiscoveryHD being added to SHAW also bodes well for *C customers.
More HD might also include KOMO4 ABC Seattle, SRC, & CTV West being added as well.
Kevin270 2006-03-10, 09:57 PM Charmed is not filmed in HD.
A co-worker of mine who is quite up on all of this stuff tells me that this year Charmed is in High Def and he watches it through the HD-WGN channel through BEV. The other show he likes is Supernatural, which is also shot in high def. Another show that StarChoice does not offer at all in HD. We are still missing lots of high def content. Smallville, Supernatural and Charmed are pretty good shows to be missing in HD. They definitely need to spruce up their HD roster with some Warner Bros. programming. They gave us CTV-HD which is constantly showing the exact same things as the US networks (and usually at the same exact time!) What a waste of bandwidth. We don't need duplicate programming - we need more variety.
esdras 2006-03-11, 12:01 AM I hate to say this, but even if *C gets some kind of HD feed that carries Charmed, it's too late.
The series, from what I've seen at a couple of news sources, was cancelled this past week.
Kevin270 2006-03-11, 09:54 AM Yes I know. It's been on the air for several years though. I still seems a shame that there is no WB high def content. Smallville and Supernatural are very good shows. I'm sure there will be more shows to come. Having access to a WB network in HD would really sew up the gap that currently exists.
esdras 2006-03-11, 03:33 PM Again, another example of where what is good service for one, isn't needed for someone else. There is no show that originates on the WB that I watch. So having it in HD isn't a factor.
Now, if CHUM would get off their butts and make a SpaceHD station, I would be in heaven. I want my BSG in HD!
