I find the average customer on this forum seems to know more about what's going on because we actually use the machines. I know that I check mine periodically to see if the version number has changed.

I just read that the first Hockey Night in Canada in HD broadcast will be Nov 5th, Toronto/Tampa.

That gives StarChoice 3 weeks to get CBCHD into their lineup, or there is going to be some serious complaining.

Keep your fingers, toes and everything else crossed! The only HD hockey I've seen so far is on HDNet.

I'm so sick of Bell... I want to switch over to Star Choice, but they have way fewer HD channels. The only ones I really care about are CBC HD and TSN HD for HD hockey. If those 2 are in the near future, I'll cancel my order for 9220 in a heartbeat!

cancel and wait a week or 2. We are all waiting to see if those channels will be added.

If no announcement by the end of the month then you won't be the only one upset.

I am currently with Shaw. Although their hd offering is not the best, their hd picture quality is excellent. Very little compression artifacts that I have seen. I have read many posts that state Shaw's HD pictute quality is far superior to Expressvu's compressed HD offering. I was wondering how Starchoice's HD picture quality compares to Shaw's and Expressvu's.

Thanks,

Michael

There is quite abit of artifacting on *C espcially when the image is a night shot or dark. Sportsnet has alot of artifacting when they whip there Sportsnet logo graphics across the screen when changing stories... the fast moving graphics have alot of artifacts.

I have seen the "artefacts" referred to in GaryE's post. They occur whenever a fast-moving scene is shown in HD. I noticed this in particular on the World Series broadcasts when the Fox logo flashes across the screen before and after replays. This occured on all three HD channels showing the game.

I was at a friends house with Shaw on the weekend, and did not notice the same issue on their HD broadcast of the World Series.

I assume this is issue is related to insufficient bandwidth on the Starchoice channels?

I should note that 95% of the time, the Starchoice HD broadcasts look fantastic.

I've been noticing the artifacts more and more too. I wonder if the compression has changed with the PPV channels being readded?

On Starchoice's online programming brochure it says that "4 new HD channels coming in October '05". Does anyone have a clue as to which channels these might be?

Originally I think that was supposed to be CBC-HD; SRC-HD; ABC W-HD; and CTV-HD. However later postings have included TSN-HD among those...
Nothing has been officially confirmed other than the # of channels.

I personally don't think it's going to happen this month. Cancom would have already have a notice on their website if new HD channels were coming. There is only 12 days left in October and they usually at the very least give a few weeks notice.

I'm a new DSR505 owner with a JVC RPG and I have a couple questions about Movie Central (I'm not currently subscribed to the "movies" bundle).

How would you rate the PQ on movies?

Is the sound in sync with the picture?

Worth $20/month for the extra shows like Carnivale and Sopranos?

I find the picture quality good, but I am only watching on the 32" JVC IARTpro, so take that as you may. As for the sound/picture sync I have not noticed any problems.

Can you print out the text of the flyer? Living in South BC, I don't get any direct mailings.

That sounds like good potential. I just hope they're all in widescreen format, and not upconverted.

With most packages, its alot less than $20/month. I'd say overall, its probably worth it. Rome is supposed to be a neat show. Lots of good movies this month too. Give it a try for 30 days (the minimum) and see what you think. If you don't like it, remove it.
If you get a rapport going and sweet talk with the CSR, there's a chance they'll even give you a discount on the package too to try it out.
