: 600 MHz vs. 860 MHz in Ontario
To check the available bandwidth, go into the SA STB diagnostics and look at some of the higher HD channels. The QAM frequency will be displayed (typically page 5, top right) and you can see if it goes into the 700s or the 500s. Some of the SD channels are also at the higher frequencies, but it depends on your location.

Here you can also check the signal strength and S/N ratio of any channels that are "black screen".

quentin0 2007-06-28, 08:59 AM i had a buddy sign up for rogers in owen sound last week and he was told (by a rep mind you so take it with several grains of salt) that owen sound would be getting rogers home phone service this fall. i would assume that would mean that they would be going to 860 MHz, which would be great news if true...
rjmarsha 2007-07-03, 03:41 PM But it isn't required for Roger's voice services. I can get rogers VOIP in my area but still just 600 MHz...
Sorry, it's good to keep the faith though.

SensualPoet 2007-07-03, 07:23 PM The fact is that cablecos across Canada and the US continue to upgrade their infrastructure in order to deliver more services and compete against satellite and telco services.
It wasn't long ago that cable meant analog only. Then digital cable came in, but only in select areas. Then Internet was added, and digital telephone. Now, for Rogers, that means 100% digital virtually across Ontario and continuing upgrades in NB and NL (including a fibre link around NL and to the "mainland" to directly connect to ON & NB).
Digital provides the capability for HD, On Demand and other services as technologies, and consumer demand, well, demand it.
With IPTV, satellite and other competitors, cablecos like Rogers will continue to enhance the network connection of every subscriber in its territory or risk shrinking their potential market.
This bodes well not just for those in big cities but in the outlying areas served by cable as well. If I have my facts right, all of Rogers ON areas are 860 MHz except for a small percentage and those are served with 600 MHz. By contrast, there are a LOT of cable customers in Canada and the US with less than 600 MHz service.
Compare the full suite of services available in 2005, 2003, 2000 from Rogers where you live today ... I think you will see ongoing committed improvements whether is is On Demand, Home Phone, faster, more reliable Internet or a raft of new Digital TV services.
If you live outside the 860 MHz ON or 750 MHZ Atlantic areas, it's reasonable to expect upgrades are coming as they have in the past.
dreddekopp 2007-07-24, 02:30 PM Well I can say that a little chunk of area outside Kanata on Richmond Road (where I live) that isnt on 860mHz will be very soon. I noticed my cable was cutting in and out so I went outside and there were a few techs working on my node installing new wire, they said we are going 860 by the end of the week! WOO HOO
mbourd25 2007-07-25, 08:22 AM jayoldschool: Concerning Hammond, Ontario cable situation. Hammond is serviced by Videotron.
I live in Hammond and I'm using their service for high speed internet and digital cable Illico. The only thing missing from their service is their Home phone since we are still at 750 Mhz. But supposedly, we are being upgraded to 860 Mhz by the end of the year.
homer_j 2007-07-30, 10:09 AM Navan area upgrade (1 GHz) started today with new fibre being installed.
Physical installation will last all week.
Rogers Service (860MHz) will follow ithe following month.
Thank you Rogers.
lawman 2007-07-30, 10:30 AM homer_j,
How do u know? Did you call Rogers to find out?
homer_j 2007-07-30, 10:53 AM My service has been out since at least 6AM this morning (Monday)
I phoned Rogers to report the outage. Repair dept. told me outage would be 8hrs. Argh! Dial-up.
I walked over to my community mailbox(since I was bored), I noticed a Fibre truck and technician (with lots of parts on the ground) at the main intersection of our development.
I started a conversation with the technician and he told me:
Fibre upgrades going on all week up to the town of Navan.
Fibre link can hold 1GHz signal
Rogers will then upgrade the service in Navan area.
I don't care what service reps from India tell me, it really pays to get information from the source.;)
lawman 2007-07-30, 10:57 AM Great stuff! If you happen to pass them by, I wouldn't mind if you ask them if all other areas e.g. Greely is also getting an upgrade?
I find sometimes, the source knows all, but the mgmt and phone inquiry ppl knows zip.
Well, that's good to hear. Let us k now when you get full digital service running.
impeyr 2007-08-02, 11:43 AM Any information about Cumberland Village?

impeyr 2007-08-20, 12:25 PM There were three contractor vans working in various places along the Dunning Road this morning. Maybe, just maybe, this is a good sign!
I can alway hope.
artologik 2007-09-21, 02:57 PM :D Great news!
When I phoned 1-888-Rogers1 today to complain about my digital cable box only getting 7 HD channels while paying for 40, the CR from New Brunswick was surprised to hear that we were still on the 600 Mhz service. He checked and came back with a bulletin saying:
that the whole Ottawa surroundings (aka rural Ottawa) upgrade was almost complete;
and that the new 860Mhz service would be available starting November 1 2007. :p
The bulletin mentioned specifically:
Fallowfield
Greely
Leitrim
Manotick
Metclafe
Navan ;)
South Marsh
Winding Way
Finalement!!!!!!
He said to check my postal box real soon for the new service offerings, namely the Rogers Home Phone service. Have any of you received anything like that? Or should someone else phone and try to confirm this bulletin ?!
Artologik
P.S.. Please forgive all the smilies, but I am a little excited ...
lawman 2007-09-21, 03:09 PM Are u sure about this man? If this is true... the drinks are on me.:D..<just joking>
