DigiCipherII as used in General Instrument/Motorola digital satellite receivers and cable boxes.

Yep - Motorola has sold over 18,000,000 DCII cable boxes and over 2,000,000 DCII satellite receivers worldwide over the last 8 years. As such a big target; if it could have been hacked, it would already have been.

Uh...aren't you the guy who started this thread with "Who in their right mind would spend the effort to try to hack DCII?????"?

Seems to imply that it's too small a market to bother with. Now you say it's huge.

Which is it?!!

I'm implying that anyone who tries to hack DCII is either stupid or very naive. Obviously DCII is the only secure consumer satellite transmission encryption and hence no need to warn anyone about "No hacking discussion" on a forum for a company using DCII. It was my weak attempt at humour

Threads have appeared on the french forums from 2 know posters in the last 2 days.... Both say they've heard, on separate occasions, that someone in the the Eastern Township is showing a hacked *C box. No one believes it at the moment but....

Never heard of a hacked *C box. I have on the other hand been offered a hacked Bell system. I refused as it's illegal and I want nothing to do with it.

You're absolutely right. Nobody in their right mind would. But on another note it seems that the brainless idiot purchasers of bev products seem to be able to do it with a bunch of parts from a kid's Electronics Starter Kit.
