Contact Hitachi. I believe they'll swap boards (replacing yours with a refurb). I believe the price is about $3-400.

how do i do a manual convergence if my 43fdx01b does not have magic focus? also i ordered the stk392-150s, do i need new resistors?

do i need new resistors? That would depend on if your existing resistors are good or not. You may wish to consider getting a service manual to find out about the manual convergence if your set doesn't have Magic Focus. You may only have a "multi-point" convergence of say 9 points.

can someone post how to do this?

Hello to all,
I currently own a Hitachi 43UWX10B RP television and the convergence was off slightly. Last Saturday when you would turn the tv on it the red power light would come on and immediately turn off. I unplugged the tv and later plugged it back in. The tv came on and worked fine for 4 days and then repeated the problem. Now I cannot get it to come back on. Is this a problem with the convergence? Is it in protection mode? I have ordered two STK392-110's in hopes that it will fix the problem but have concerns that it will not. Any help or comments would be greatly appreciated as I am currently watching a 20" tv in the mean time. Thanks in advance for any replies.

These TVs also had issues with the power relays. So it could be that, or a power supply instead of the convergence. Good luck.

Great Forum! I had a problem with the IC chips and they arrived today. I had someone put them in for me. Everything came up fine but my red gun was a little off. (the "S" in the middle) I had lost Magic Focus and could only get Static Mode. Anyway, to make a long story short... I pressed the "service only button" while powering the TV on and everything is out of wack! Basicaly I Cleared the RAM!!!!

Does anyone know how to set things right? I have a service manual in PDF format but the DCU Parameters in the manual differ a little then the ones on the set. The actual "names" of the parameters differ.

I have come this far and I really don't want to have to pay someone come out and do a manual convergence when I think I can do it myself.

Thanks in advance

I followed the steps and still lost my magic focus. Is there anything I can do to get it back? When I hit the Magic Focus button I get several cross hairs on the screen.

WARNING: YOU MUST DO THE FOLLOWING STEPS TO COMPLETE MAGIC FOCUS
INITIALIZATION!!! THERE HAVE BEEN MANY POSTS THAT PEOPLE HAVE HAD PROBLEMS
WITHOUT DOING THIS STEP BECAUSE THEY LOOSE MAGIC FOCUS!
16) Press MUTE to return to convergence pattern, then confirm again convergence is acceptable.
17) Press PIP MODE and then PIP CH to initialize Magic Focus. The initialize operation starts and several
windows appear during this operation. It takes about 30 seconds or less.
18) When green dots appear, initialize operation is finished.
19) Turn power OFF.
21) Wait a few seconds. Turn the TV on, and you should have your normal signal. Press Magic Focus button just
to make sure the magic focus still works (and that you did the last few steps properly)

To get out of static mode (9 cross-hairs), you need to take the front panel off the TV and press the little blue button near the bottom left of the chassis. Do NOT press this button while powering on your TV as noted in post 87.

To do a DCAM manual convergence, see the Sticky on that topic at the top of the Hitachi forum.

Thanks. I looked for this blue button before posting but didn't find it. I'll take the front panel off again and see if I overlooked it.

Thanks. I looked for this blue button before posting but didn't find it. I'll take the front panel off again and see if I overlooked it.

Found it, reset and tried convergence. I can get the red and green to move but the blue doesn't. It is the one that needs to move. It has the arced lines at the top and bottom.

If you have the arced lines, then you have blown convergence ICs. You need to replace them (and possibly resistors) as discussed in this thread.

...So what if you did press the little blue button when powering up? Do I need a pro to come out and converge the set for me? Thanks

If you only need to do convergence, look at the instructions on doing a DCAM (manual) convergence - sticky at the top of the Hitachi forum.

I did try the DCAM process but was not able to get everything lined up correctly. I dont have a jig screen to make sure everything is lined up. Now the lines are close but there is still bleeding in some location. Plus the lines are not level horizontaly all the way accross, I think it is because of the "course" "fine" adjustment. To be perfectly honest, I think the IC chips are fine now (since replacement) It's the user (me) not being able to adjust the convergence right. Anyway, thanks for the post on the IC chip issue. I will probably have to call someone to do it for me. I HATE THAT!!!

Oh yeah, when I power up the TV and press magic focus I get a white line down the middle which is verticaly crossed by a blue, red green line slightly off. The "red" cross blinks. To get to the grid I have to press the service button.

You could purchase an overlay, or tape some string tightly across the screen to straighten the lines if they're not too far off, vertically and horizontally.

Where do I purchase one?

Web search? Hitachi? Depending on the material, they're usually about $30-$100.

Are there any pictures or drawing of where this PCB is on the back of HITACHI 53 inch TV? I'm in PCB assembly work and wish to fix this for my tv as well.

thanks for your help in advance.

Depends on the model of the TV. You can order a service manual from Hitachi or a dealer. Some can be found for download on the web if you search hard.

The convergence ICs are attached to a heat sink (about 6" high) that should be clearly visible from the back of the TV.
