: Hitachi & Other Manufacturers Convergence Problems (STK392-110 ICs) Read Post 1
I don't know what directions you want that haven't already been covered in this thread, especially the links in post 1.
When the ICs go, I don't think the blinking power light comes on - on the Hitachis. Perhaps you have another issue.
Murphster05 2008-04-17, 02:25 AM well, I ordered 2 of the 110 IC's, and then I am going to just go to Radio Shack and get the new resistors, replace all of that, take a magnifier to the board and see what is going on, hopefully find a small crack and resolder that, but other than that? I have seen that other people have the blinking red power light problem, has anyone else successfully resolved this issue? Is there a diagram which shows exactly which resistors to replace? Thanks again for any help.
It probably would have been better if you ordered the kit on-line that has the resistors and the ICs. I believe the 110s for example have typically been replaced by 150s - discussed in this thread (although I see there is still a 110 kit). Also, I believe the kit includes the diagram/instructions for which resistors. Link to kits in post 1.
Murphster05 2008-04-17, 11:09 AM all right, thanks. I will just go ahead and purchase the kit with the 150's and hopefully that comes with everything and, then i can start replacing it all and hopefully the blinking red power light gets fixed...
quiltyw 2008-04-22, 05:54 PM I have looked threw a great detail of this thread
I have found it great help in diagnosing and fixing the problem with my T.V. I have ordered new IC to fix my T.V. but I also wanted to know if any one could tell me what resistors I have to replace in order to fix my T.V. Of couse no one could tell me which ones are blown I can test them but I don't know which ones to test.
Thanks,
Wally
If you had ordered the kit from the link in post 1 of this thread, then the resistors would have been part of the kit.
The resistors are not always blown, but while the board is out, people usually replace them just to be sure.
A service manual usually helps because then you can see the ones in the circuit.
37coupe13 2008-04-22, 07:58 PM Hi everyone
I have a convergence problem.Ordered the new ic's and checked all resistors.Resoldered the new ics in and.One of the heat sinks gets extremly hot and the other says very cool. Also i still can't manually adjust the vertical lines.
Take it i need new ics again.
Any ideas what else to check ?
Don't just check the resistors. It's often best to replace them, as mentioned in post 406. Also important to check the soldering - often people mess up the soldering of the ICs, causing shorts, as well as to check the board for cracks. All of this is mentioned in post 1.
sbrown1964 2008-04-25, 09:30 AM had a freind give me his 53fdx01b said he was going to try and fix it himself....but his wife said...buy a new one...he had already bought a kit to repair the convergance problem...but i cant seem to find anything on here about these ic's...the number is STK394-160E with 6 resistors...i assume since replacing with a different ic you have to replace the resistors also...just not sure if these are the correct ic's?
socrates 2008-04-25, 02:16 PM Ok i got up this morning, turned the tv and everything was fine, suddenly the tv turned itself off then back on and when it came back on the convergence was out to the point of not being able to see, it was toast :( so i went into the menu and the convergence option was no longer there???? so i went into the service menu and it to was gone now???? also in the service menu i noticed under TUBE type it was blank??? so my brother looked around and found this link
http://home.earthlink.net/~oleg.filippov/ConvergenceFix.htm
Is this what my problem is? and if so does anyone know where i can buy these parts and if not then at least the part numbers so i can order them from a repair shop? i have also never worked on one of these tv's before so im not sure about what not to touch that might blow me up like the old tube tv's of yesteryears ;)
Anyways please tell me what the hell is wrong with my 3 year old tv :(
Thanks
I suggest that both of you look at post 1 of this thread and the links there. sbrown1964 The 150s & 160s did replace some of the ICs that used to be 110s for example. You could contact the supplier of the kit.
socrates If your TV now looks like the link in post 1 or the link you provided, then you have the same issue, read post 1. If you want to post a link to a picture of your TV and what it looks like now, feel free.
sbrown1964 2008-04-25, 04:01 PM lol...i read that post and most of the others and never even seen that....hmmmm...maybe its my eyes instead of the tv....thx 57.
socrates 2008-04-25, 04:37 PM Ya it looks a little worse actually and i wasnt sure if it was the same thing cause of the convergence option disappearing from the menus, is this part of the same problem or does that mean theres more wrong with it?
I took a pic but have no where to link it from, but when i looked inside the tv i cant find any black heat sink, only a crap load of silver ones with a black chip on the back of each one, but none of them are the same size as the ones i need, there all smaller or thinner looking.
socrates 2008-04-25, 05:51 PM Also i was wondering if it was possible to just replace the whole board? and if so where could i get one, also my board doesnt appear to use the stk chips instead i have read that it uses the TDA6120Q chip but once again where on the board would they be? is the convergence board the same one with that black tower with the 2 thick wires coming out of?
socrates Often the heat sinks are aluminum and the ICs are black attached to them - see the links in post 1 to posts 220 and 224. A new board may perhaps be purchased from the manufacturer. I believe Hitachi charges about $300 for a "swap". They supply you with a board and you return yours. Don't know about RCA.
Most people upload photos to a photo sharing site like flickr and paste the URL of your photo into your post.
socrates 2008-04-25, 06:54 PM Ok heres a pic of the inside of my tv, like i stated before though i do belive the chips my tv uses are the TDA6120Q chips instead of the stk ones all though i could be wrong, anyways if you could cirlce on my pic where abouts the chips might be located that would help me a great deal :) thanks again

socrates 2008-04-26, 05:14 PM I think these are the ones that the guy said would work on the rca's but once again i need some form of conformation before i buy them as i still cant seem to find anything that looks like the STK chips :(

could cirlce on my pic where abouts the chipsHad a look at the picture, but can't say, sorry.
sbrown1964 2008-04-29, 01:56 PM Just wanted to say thanks 57 for your help....took the tv apart last night...brought the board to work with me and replaced the ic's and resistors took it home at lunch, put it back in and ....tv..looks like it is supposed to...estimate at tv repair shop was $490 to $570 to repair it...i think he told me the kit on ebay was $48...big difference...wasnt too bad to do either...i have minimal soldering exp...took about 2 hrs to solder it in...anyway....thanks again!
socrates 2008-04-29, 02:24 PM Hey thats great man congrats :D now i just gotta figure out what chips my tv use ;)
