: GT4 in 1080i
JesseJ 2005-09-15, 10:15 PM GT4 is very good in 1080i. I haven't watched on 480p yet, but I plan on checking out both options. When you go around tracks with guard rails, the lines on the rails are a little less blocky/boxy/pixel-y. Very good.
The photo section in also in HD, which is very cool.
eimaj 2005-09-16, 08:08 PM ol post but my thoughts:
got a GT3 release PS2 and the sony component kit
- PS2 setup sets the 16:9 mode and component option , but nuttin bout 480p, 720p nor 1080i
- in GT4 under graphics options I can select 16:9 as well as 720p or 1080i and when I select either one screen will blank for a second and show some slightly distorted screen with confirmation window which I confirm and it will revert back to the previous screen.
- turns out the navigation screens will remain 480i but when in gaming or replay mode I will see a lot more details and my HDTV will show 1080i mode!!!!!
- dunno what you are talking bout but it has sooo much more detail it's not even funny!!!!!
- have an Xbox as well, loving it and still trying to find a game or way to test the 720p or 1080i mode on the xbox since the experience with GT4 1080i mode!
freedom fighters is 720p and is a cool game as well. cheap too.
JesseJ 2005-09-16, 08:55 PM If the PS2 is capable of providing games in HD, why do you think more games aren't rpesented that way? Wouldn't that be a big selling point?
JesseJ 2005-09-23, 10:23 AM Whenever I load GT4, it doesn't remember I want the races in 1080i. It's always back to normal. No matter when I save the game, it always reverts back.
Is there any way I can do it so it stays in 1080i?
marto 2005-09-23, 12:04 PM no sorry !!!!
same thing here!!!!
JesseJ 2005-09-23, 12:13 PM didn't think so.
ah well
go in the ps2 browser menu and go to the configuration screen and make sure its set to Yr/Cb/Pr and not RGB
the menu's in GT4 are in 480i, the actual game play is 1080i/480p/480i
if your ps2 is a first generation like mine, it doesn't do the high def stuff. the later versions of the ps2 do progressive and high def. you might have to bite the bullet and get a newer ps2 to play the high def games with your tv.
Which one is the 2nd gen? Is it the 2nd design ( the small one) or can the newer big one do HD games?
jaazzman 2005-10-14, 09:01 AM I think you should all push power on the PS2, go get a copy of Forza Motorsport for Xbox and never look back. Superior game in every way...and no issues with flipping in and out of HD.
I find it quite funny that Microsoft was able to beat Polyphony Digital at their own game on the first attempt...

To each his own I guess...everyone I know favors Forza. In fact 2 of my friends who had already purchased GT4 went out and got an Xbox just for Forza. As for the lines, if you don't like em, turn em off.
BerinG 2005-10-26, 02:35 PM I have had GT4 since it came out and was playing it on my toshiba 24" crt in 480i, 4:3.. I got my new Panny tv last week and was excited to try HD games so i bought component cables and tried GT4 with wide screen and higher resolution but i wasn't impressed at all. I barely saw any difference when playing. Tried both 480p and 1080i and neither made a real difference. Nice to be able to play in 16:9 compared to what i had but as for the resolution and PQ, i was expecting something alot better.. Maybe if i had 2 identical tvs with the game on both side by side i could see it, but changing the settings and playing again, i saw nothing.
Although i got HD package with illico cable and i was really impressed with those compared to SD channels.. maybe i was expecting too much from GT4
I will be trying other games in hd, I found a list somewhere that listed which ones had those options...hopefully will have something to talk about then..
eimaj 2006-03-14, 12:11 PM I saw that GT4 went down in price, picked it up and I am not all that impressed with the picture quality. I was hoping the 1080i would be amazing, but it is not. There is so much aliasing that creates a lot of flicker. It's also weird that some tracks look way better than others (why would that be?). And what is with Sony and there 1080i machines creating a picture down-shift? And why can't the PS2 save the fact you want to keep it in 1080i? It sucks to have to go to the menu all the time and activate this feature. PGR2 still looks better imo.
But on the plus side, the racing is fantastic, controls are tight and the amount of cars is great. I also like the fact you can transfer some licenses and money from GT3.

the price drop makes the game very attractive
just wondering: are all the cars available? or do u have to unlock/buy some like GT3? how about the tracks? all available or unlock?
THANKS!
eimaj 2006-03-16, 12:43 AM There's a bunch of vehicles you have to win/unlock that you cannot buy. The new tracks are a nice touch.
