See this post about the logo. They appear to be learning fast...

Let's hope they are reading this thread.

Harl, give your friend the URL for this thread. We'll supply lots of helpful hints... ;)

News is on now, it's 4:3 and the HD logo is gone. Nice touch using the HD logo on widescreen material.

IMHO you have to give the CBC credit. They haven't even launched their channel yet but they have fixed a problem with the logo, shown several HD programs and are making an effort to show material in widescreen SD where possible.

Sure it is not perfect as 57 pointed out they have to fix some cropping efforts but it is nice to finally see a Canadian network make an effort.

I'm just wondering, has anyone here from Western Canada contacted Shaw about them carrying CBC HD?

I am about to call them, but I was curious to find out what kind of "canned response" (read "CSR knee jerk) were being thrown around.

I find that Rogers channel 273 (French) is quite a bit more crisp than Rogers 272 on upconverted 4:3. Anyone else notice?

FWIW I'd like to see the HD logo more opaque....the Global HD logo is really opaque.

Why on earth would you want that? I would prefer it to be more transparent.

Has it been confirmed that BEV will not be adding CBC HD? If not, that sucks!

I called the CRTC and lodged a complaint against BEV for not carrying the SRC/CBC-HD signal. I also called the Vice-President's office at Bell to express my dissatisfaction. So far, no one called me back. I think more subscribers should tell BEV that they are outraged and urge them to do something quick. I for one will not let them away with that.

According to CBC it will be offered on Expressvu. Considering the launch is March 5, I think I'll wait until then to see if Expressvu offers it. If not, then I'll complain.

CBC HD has appeared on Cogeco on Channel 286 in Hamilton/Oakville. The guide lists all programs as "TBA". I suspect that's because it's not "oficeially" broadcasting until Monday.

And there's this line from the CBC's HD newsletter, posted earlier in this discussion:

The CRTC’s ‘must carry’ rules mean that cable and satellite providers serving the two cities will begin to carry the new HD services at the same time.

I agree with MTOTech; if BEV still isn't carrying CBC-HD after Saturday, then we'll have reason to complain. Although I am disappointed they haven't stepped up yet, while we continue to endure the months-old birthing pains of CTV-HD and Global-HD.

I totally agree with you, BEV still has until Saturday to add SRC/CBC-HD to its channel lineup. However, my major complaint re BEV's service is that no one is aware of what is going on when it comes to HDTV. No one seems to care either. None of the people I talked to so far could tell me for sure when BEV will carry CBC's HD signal. If they actually are to offer the service as of March 5th, how come no one can give me this simple piece of information? Am I asking too much, really?

I think it would be in Bell's best interest to promote the additional channels at least through a press release... Better (and more timely) communication would be nice.

I think this is yet another example of how we live under the IMPRESSION there's competition is this market.

Just about every company finds ways to make it difficult for people to switch services.

I mean, the last several posts talk about BEV specifically, but you could find numerous examples for all the companies we deal with. It's comes to me as no surprise whatsoever that cable and satellite providers can treat their customers in this fashion and "get away with it"

Here a few illustrations of what I mean:

* Cablecos refusing to compete one against another on the same territory, creating cable monopolies in every market.

*Locked-in contracts (for example BEV 2 year committment)

* Expensive hardware to purchase, often with no rental options (Shaw with its hardware).

*Bundling of services which makes the decision to switch one service costly.

* Rural customers not having cable options (only satellite).

*Many condo owners not having staellite options because of bylaws, therefore obligated to go with cable.

*And the list goes on...

If you take the average customer and apply all these caveats, it's no wonder they do whatever they please and don't seem to "care" or listen". Every provider has its pros and cons, so there will never be a guarantee that switching service will make for a 100% satisfactory experience. And let's face it? The old "vote with your wallet" adage applies, but how many times are you going to switch back and forth, that is IF YOU EVEN HAVE THE OPTION...

I don't know what the solution to that is. I guess that's why we come here to vent :)

Showing as "TBA"

Recently the added #503 CFTOD HD our channel 9: CFTO

I am now receiving #505 CBLTD English CBC channel.
The guide still says "To Be Announced", but I clicked on the station
and it is on the air.

Seeing as today Saturday March 5th is suppose to be the premiere launching of CBC/HD you would think that there would be some kind of announcement on their main page (http://www.cbc.ca/) or CBC television (http://www.cbc.ca/television/). Guess they don’t deem it to be very important.

Go to http://www.cbc.ca/hdtv/ and click on Read the Latest CBC HD Times Newsletter- Winter 2005 (english) (french). (http://www.cbc.ca/hdtv/hdtimes/winter2005.pdf) I must agree however that SRC/CBC has kept a low-profil so far. Allegedly, broadcasters don't want too many viewers to move to their HD channels yet, chiefly for rating purposes. It seems like at this point only the regular analog channels are BBM-rated. If too many viewers move to HD, they will not be counted in the ratings. I don't know whether this is true or not, but this is what I was told by a TV executive.

I already emailed CBC about that, asking why their HD launch is being kept so quiet. So far I have yet to hear back from them.

I just checked the guide and see that there are two HD shows listed starting at 7pm tonight (5th) which are independent of the main network.
