Tell me stampeder, I’m just curious. Do you also have a CBUFT-DT in Vancouver? Is it on air now?

Tell me stampeder, I’m just curious. Do you also have a CBUFT-DT in Vancouver? Is it on air now?SRC-HD 16.1 is not being started here at this time in Vancouver. Its just CBC-HD, while in Quebec City I believe its just SRC-HD that will be coming up later this month (maybe Marc can confirm that?).

That's right. No French HD in Vancouver for now. Quebec City was the next site for SRC the last time I asked.

This is the camera they were using tonight with the HD logo :

Too bad it was only in SD. The studio must not be in HD.

Thanks Bruno, thats what I saw. BTW the CBC seemed to have the best PQ of the three "HD" channels that were showing the debate.

With NBC's announcement of HD, is it safe to assume we will see the same events in HD on CBC?
Seeing as they are using the host HD services, I would assume the same events/venues will be covered.

I know Marc is here, and he can talk more about everything, but I found an article from who knows when (before Dome got their second truck) about CBC's HD mobile, and plans for a second truck:
http://www.broadcastdialogue.com/article_view.asp?action=view&idnumber=516

And although internal demand for CBC’s HD truck is expected to be extremely high, “if I pick up a couple of million over a couple of years (in rental fees), that will help pay for the next truck,” Dawson said.

I know it's a long way's off (2007-8 maybe) but hey, a Canadian boy can dream!

Question for Marc, and also for new DHCer Jason (CBC Vancouver) who is hopefully reading this thread:

Recently CTV has begun using gray bars on their Vancouver ATSC OTA signals when 4:3 programming is being shown. As has been discussed in 57's DHC technical FAQs and in other discussions, gray bars are much better for preventing screen burn-in than black bars. Some DHCers don't like the looks of gray bars, but to me that's not what is important.

Will CBC-HD change to gray bars, or can the issue please be researched?

cheers,
stampeder
