I tried to watch the National news on the CBC-HD channel on Shaw TV last night, that would be the one on at 10PM Toronto time. The sound was out of sync to a degree that it was impossible to watch it. I went back a couple of times but it continued to have the sync problem. The following program was back okay.

Anyone else notice this problem?

I just finished screening the air check tape. This recording comes from an ATSC receiver fed by a rootop antenna in Toronto.

The National and the adjacent programs did not have a sync issue.

Thanks Marc. If it happens again I'll get on the phone to Shaw and complain to them. I don't have a great deal of confidence in Shaw's problem detection and problem resolution so I wanted to know if it was a source problem or in the distribution before trying to take it to Shaw.

Recorded Wonderland and the new comedy, This Space For Rent, this evening and watched Wonderland, great but sometimes very depressing program, and then started to watch This Space Is For Rent. These were recorded on a 6412 cable box on Shaw's Kelowna, BC system.

There was a sound problem with the first 5 or 6 minutes on This Space Is For Rent. There seemed to be some ambient or background sound but no voices until about 6 minutes into the program then the sound was as expected. Or at least you could people taking as expected.

Anyone else noticed any problems. I was wondering if it was another Shaw/distribution problem or one at the source.

It was the same in Surrey, Alan.

No sound until the screen went "windowboxed" about 6 minutes into the programme for a few seconds and the sound was there. The video self-corrected after a few seconds. CBC issue.

I didn't watch the programme yet...

The problem was at CBC. There was a mixup with the audio coding.

Thanks to those who posted. Trying to track down the source of the problem is a bit of a hassle and its great to have this thread to trade information. Later on when everything is working perfectly at CBC :D, I won't have to worry about where the the problem is and just call Shaw.

Marc, a few comments, questions.

1. Marketplace was WS on Sunday January 8. Is this a sign for the future?

2. The website lists the new DaVinci as HD this coming week. Is this correct - it has been "only" WS?

3. The website shows DaVinci on Wednesday. I believe it should be Tuesday. This may be caused by the fact that the schedule starts with "Monday" as the first day of the week, while most people in this hemisphere are used to seeing calendars with Sunday as the first day.

The news this morning showed preparations for the debate tonight in the Montreal studio. It showed a bank of TV cameras in the studio and I saw two of them clearly labeled as CBC HD cameras (the lens said CBC and HD). I wonder if the broadcast will actually be in HD ?????????

1. The regular episodes of Marketplace will remain 4:3 for now.
2. DaVinci continues to be widescreen on Tuesday nights. The online schedule has been corrected. Thanks for noting that 57!
3. Tonight's debate will be SD.

Just curious Marc, if the debate is in SD then why would the CBC be using HD cameras????

I don't know. Perhaps SRC will be using those cameras for tomorrow's French debate?
