The question isn't why ... it was simply when CBC will run through the backlog (as previously discussed) and switch these shows to 16:9

Tomorrow (Wednesday, October 26th)
How's that for timing? :)

Well that will fill in some colour on the HD schedule ... or at least the widescreen schedule.

Marc,

It's obviously too late to get anything but Leaf's games from CBC this season, but I wondering what about going forward. With CBC-HD OTA in Vancouver going in early next year I assume, will we be getting HD Canucks coverage to complement the CBC-HD OTA in the GVA? Or in general, anything OTHER than Leafs games in HD in the regular season?

Thanks.

I doubt those decisions have even been made at this point. Long term programming plans don't come my way. The technical side is my specialty.

Marc. I see the Nature of Things is missing again from the HD guide - Wednesday 8PM, repeat Sunday 3PM?

I believe that episode is SD. See post 512.

Take a bow Marc,IMO the HD Leafs game was one of the best I've seen PQ wise. Other than a few glitches in the sound that was good too.

I hope you guys enjoyed your two hour of HD, now for another 6 days all you will get is SD programming... Great channel no doubt...

I hope you guys enjoyed your two hour of HD, now for another 6 days all you will get is SD programming ...A lot of upconverted SD widescreen though ... looks great to me compared to the regular SD channel. Far better than CTV or Global, I don't think either of them have any widescreen programming this week that isn't a rebroadcast of what we can get on the US channels.

Though OMNI is still winning this game ...

It's not in the schedule, but it will be widescreen tonight.

I've seen a few posts about a second CBC HD mobile unit based in Montreal for the exclusive use of the French television network.

Sorry, but it does not exist.

First of all, there are no French nor English mobiles. About a year ago all trucks were put under the jurisdiction of CBC's Mobile Division. The division was formed to make sure CBC made the most efficient use of these assets and had a mechanism to sell off extra capacity to generate income.

There is one HD truck. It is based in Toronto. It's called Premiere.

The Mobile Division will send it where ever it is required. It was in Montreal for du gala de l'ADISQ (sp?). It was at the Air Canada Centre for last Saturday's game. It's back on the road this morning to cover a musical event.

The rest of the fleet is spread accross the country in major centres. They are used by both French and English networks as well as external clients. They are all SD.

Just to be sure, I verified these facts with the Operations Manager of the Mobile Division this morning.

I just learned that a number of weeknight films have been airing in widescreen, but this has not been reflected in the online schedule. That should be corrected soon.

I just learned that a number of weeknight films have been airing in widescreen, but this has not been reflected in the online schedule. Nor have the weekday widescreen Coronation Street airings (that should fill in some white-space)!

Any news when Emmerdale goes widescreen?

BTW Marc, thanks for being here and communicating to us. And thank those at the CBC that are letting this happen. It's great to have this communication!

I've sent a note off to get Coronation WS added.
It looks like Emmerdale is staying 4:3 for now.

It looks like Emmerdale is staying 4:3 for now.Inside the 4:3 image, it is 14:9 letterbox. I presume the CBC equipment isn't up to enlarging this so that more of the 16:9 image is used on the HD channel, with narrower black bars on the side, rather than on the top?

(initially when CBC-HD went to air, the 14:9 Coronation Street was enlarged to that it was filling the 16:9 screen, however the bottom and top were cut-off, so that didn't last long).

You're right. I should have said Emmerdale will continue at 14:9 letterboxed.

Is there any news on when CBC HD will begin to broadcast in Vancouver and when Shaw cable might add it? Thanks in advance for your responces.

I think if you do a search of this (long) thread for "vancouver" and/or "Shaw", you should find your answers.

(See "search this thread" at the top of this thread)

Hi Marc has the HD encoder been loaded with the upgraded s/w yet to attempt to deal with the judder issues on film based material?
