Nature of Things airs 9pm locally, except Newfoundland.

I was going from memory when I suggested 8pm! So is Earth Energy an episode of the Nature of Things?

Is their going to be any HD Hockey games on CBC anytime soon? What about CFL games? I'm assuming the Grey Cup will be HD but what about any other games?

Great, although I don't see Nature of Things listed (Wed 8PM or so), which is usually HD, or WS.

There's very little HD listed - just the Trudeau epic. Widescreen shows are almost all kids shows! I wonder why kids get to watch in WS?

Many of the newer shows are done widescreen. It'll be interesting to see if Rick Mercer (soon?) or 22 Minutes (Friday) are WS.

Thanks Marc. It'll be interesting to see if my SA8300HD will automatically pick up on the 2-hour Nov 2 special. It did work properly on "Actors Studio" (on Bravo) when it switched from 1-2 hours the odd occasion...

Olympics? :)Has NBC announced their HD plans for Torino? I couldn't find anything definite on the net. It would be much easier for the CBC if NBC and/or the host broadcaster had HD cameras. I know that HD isn't very widespread in Europe but there were some facilities for Athens in 2004 and the 2004 Euro soccer was covered in HD, although we didn't get to see that in Canada.

I did find this which is from a Wired article prior to the Athens Olympics:No one is satisfied with the amount of programming or the way it's being produced. NBC spokeswoman Cameron Blanchard said the host committee's last-minute decision to provide high definition was the main factor. "We would like to do much more but can't this time around," Blanchard explained, adding that NBC plans to provide the main feed in high definition for the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin.

Just a reminder that next Sunday, Oct. 30, there will be a live HD telecast of the ADISQ Awards gala on the French CBC at 7:30 pm (it is the Quebec version of the Grammy Awards).

It will be interesting to see how the CBC's mobile HD facilities will be used to telecast a variety show.

BTW, the TV and Internet promotion indicates that the gala "will be presented in high definition".

And we are getting anamorphic masters now for Coronation Street, but a number of episodes in inventory are still 14:9, so it'll be a few episodes yet before the aspect ratio is correct. This was posted by someone from CBC 7 months ago in this thread.

But we still are getting Coronation Street as 14:9. How much longer before it switches to 16:9?

Don't they brodcast in PAL format in the UK? That's probabily why it's 14:9 ratio.

Don't they brodcast in PAL format in the UK? That's probabily why it's 14:9 ratio.BBC and ITV in UK broadcasts digitally in 16:9 widescreen ... and they have been since the late 1990's. See:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/reception/digital_tv/widescreen.shtml

The old 4:3 analogue transmitters are still running, and they broadcast the 14:9 version on them. But there is no reason technical reason CBC can't obtain the 16:9 versions of Coronation Street or Emmerdale the same way they did for Doctor Who.

Yes but that is not why. Blame the BBC for 14:9 for trying to satisfy both camps. 12:9, 14:9 or 16:9. See the pattern. Now back to the topic.

(though Emmerdale Farm might well be 16:9 ... can't say I've seen any of it since the 1970's! :-)
