It will be nice when years from now these debates (wether or not certain events will be in HD) will not exist because everything will be in HD much the way that all programming in colour gradually replaced black and white programming. My only fear is that the because of the GESTAPO CRTC the rest of the world will be watching HD programming and we will be watching simsubbed programming in SD. WE MUST ONLY WATCH WHAT THE GESTAPO ALLOWS US TO UNDER THIS CORRUPT GOVERNMENT. (did I say corrupt? Sorry, I meant Liberal)

Thank you to everyone who took the time to participate in this poll. I will wait another week before drafting a letter to Sportsnet summarizing the results.
To date, roughly 41% of respondents would pay something extra to watch the 2006 World Cup in HD. Still significant in my books.

This poll has no merit with me. I already pay for Sportsnet HD, so of course I would not pay more to watch some HD content.
If it was Bell Expressvu asking the poll, that is a different question. Then they could have a World Cup PPV Package. Like Center Ice, Sunday Ticket.
Rogers Sportsnet can't act like that. They have five channels that people already pay for their content. They can't charge more to show a certian event. Would CBC put the NHL Playoffs on as PPV? Never! Would TSN charge us extra to watch the ESPN Sunday Night NFL game....Never.
Rosgers Sportsnet is a channel that people choose to pay for. To ask for additional $$$ per event is crazy.
Rogers Cable, Bell Expressvu, Shaw Cable, Star Choice, etc. could make a World Cup Package and charge money, but a channel can't.

Any of these companies could choose to run an event as PPV if they chose, but that would be unlikely. They would only do it as PPV if they thought they could make more money that way.
What is to stop some of the games being free and having to pay for others? Most of the English Premiership games are shown on Sportsnet for free but you do have to pay for the Sunday games - I believe it is about $15. What differentiates the Sunday game from a Saturday game causing it to be PPV?

You pay sportsnet to watch the game for $15? What channel is it on?

You pay sportsnet to watch the game for $15? What channel is it on?I don't believe that it is Sportsnet that is charging but Viewer's Choice. For example, this morning you could have paid $14.99 to see Everton vs. Blackburn on Channel 301. If this game was played on a Saturday you might have seen it for free on Sportsnet. It is the same content, a regular season EPL game, but sometimes you pay, sometimes you don't.
They could do the same thing with the world cup if they wanted.
