Still wanting to record digital and HDTV tv shows onto my computer. Any options available yet or is it still disabled because of copywrite laws?

Firewire ports are active. Shaw has not implemented 5c encryption on the HD channels. have used this (http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?threadid=403695
) method successfully.

but that requires a PC. What about straight to an external firewire hard drive?

Looks like Motorola has no interest to develop the software needed for direct to hard drive connections.

PC or Mac seems to be the only way to go now.

Has anyone tried i-link with a Pioneer DVR 520h-s? It supports firewire connectivity....? I would give 'er the ol' college go myself, but the $800 price tag is a little prohibitive....

I couldn't make it work with the Pioneer DVR-510H. I got a message on the screen that "no camera was attached". I've tried this with both a DCT6200 and a DCT6412.

JohnnyCanuck is 5c encryption on all the channels except HD?

Never checked SD channels because I have a TiVo for that which works so much better and can send data via LAN for the purposes of archiving via PC. I just checked MC and TLC to sample and neither had 5c turned on.

For my Mac what software is out there to download off my DCT6208??

Also If I'm wanting to add extra memory or an external hard drive for more capacity on my DCT6208 is it possible?

Works well with the Mac - I have a lowly G3 350

Ideally update to the latest version of OSX

Then download the firewire SDK from Apple or use iRecord
The SDK has several options to record - I use AVCVideoCap from the SDK, and it works well

With slower Mac's like mine, I have seen it said that it actually works better with a FW drive (IDE drive in a FW case) on the other FW port - apparently gets fewer buffer overruns - I have not noticed this, and generally find relatively few errors in the files when I check them with MPEG2Repair ( a PC application)

There are several posts on this here, and lots of info (too much!) at AVSForum

Not possible, & probably never will be. So many features, so little utilization. Sigh. :(

So I take it the SATA port on the new 6412 PIII isn't usable either? That would be a nice way to get some extra storage.

Nope, the SATA port is also useless. :(
