ok.. hopefully the final update on this annoying issue..
it has given me more stress than it has been worth..

the tv was taken away to the AUTEK shop and I was told to call them at the end of the next business day to find out what they found and how they fixed it..

I was cool with that and all.. not like I had any options.

so the next day at around 5:30 pm I call the shop to find out what happened.. and I get this..............

"Oh, the tv guy is gone, and we forgot to ask him to look at the tv"

WTF???????

so now I literally drive over to AUTEK before they close.. and 'nicely' advise them that their service sucks and I want my f'kin tv back.

and of course.. when the tv gets delivered the next day.. it is squeeling and fuzzy

........ so now I running out of options.. I have had this tv for 2 months trying to get it fixed.. this is longer than the return policy for all the electronic stores I shop at..

but I went back to VISIONS.. and ended up talking to the store manager..

( btw.. GREAT GUY!! :D )

I explained to him my whole ordeal.. and he actually listened..

after hearing the whole saga he offered to exchange the tv.. now the problem was getting one..

Visions no longer stocked the same model (they had one demo model in one of the stores but he never pressured me to take that one)

At this point the manager said he'll look into it and contact me back

of course.. I never thought I would hear back from Visions again

but.......... a few days later I get a message that a BRAND NEW TV is coming straight from SAMSUNG

another week and I have a MADE IN APRIL 2005 model sitting in my living room.. quiet as a mouse and with great picture.. all delivered and picked up for free

I'll tell you one thing.. this made one happy customer!

Not to upsell a store or anything.. but any of my future electronic purchases will be from VISIONS-Pembina location

thanks guys

Hi I have a March 2005 build (Mexico) Samsung HLP5663W and now after 3 months and 350 hrs the color wheel is whining bigtime. Sometimes if I shutoff TV and turn back on the noise is gone. I thought March 2005 builds would have the air bearing. The jumper on the color wheel assembly is off (open) so I thought this indicates the air bearing....but no sticker so I don't know for sure.

Does the TV start to whine after its been on for awhile? If yes, then you may have a problem with the fan. Check post #82 for a test to verify if you have a colour wheel problem.

Good luck.

I'd thought I'd join the club! I purchased a HLR4264 on July 14/05 and it almost immediately began to do that wonderful sound! I bought mine at Best Buy (Ottawa).

At first it wasn't very loud so I thought it was "normal" but after a couple of weeks it got to be ridiculous! The local service depot for BB did not have the part in stock (I wonder why!) so I have to wait until they get one in.

My DLP was also manufactured in Mexico in June 2005.

Great work Samsung!!!

It appears as if my colour wheel problem has returned. I had my ball bearing unit replaced with an air bearing unit Feb 2005 and the hum has returned. It is annoying but I can tune it out.

I purchased my HLP4663 in Dec 2004 so my one year warranty is up. I remember hearing/reading that if you registered on-line that you automatically get an additional one year warranty? Any truth to that? Perhaps only in the US. I should call Samsung Canada.

I think I'll call my service guy to see how much it would cost to replace it again. Any idea what this could run?

UGH...

Same problem - noisy (really noisy) color wheel. Manufactured in Tijuana, Mexico, January 2004 - tech coming to replace after several weeks' wait. color wheels seem to be a big ticket item right now - on backorder - and this tech says there are lots of them needing replacement. (Edmonton)
