denben73 2008-07-28, 07:15 PM Well, can't get TSC through clear QAM...not that I'm wanting that specific channel.;)
No audio channels either. It's the only clear QAM tuner I have so I'll have to assume that the card is screwed or there is an "unkown" technical reason that I don't get it. I didn't buy the card for that, so I'm not that overly concerned.
j1paque...
I'm assuming you are in Sudbury? As for analog channels, channels 2-6, 14-21 (all at the lower end of the spectrum) are crappy up here, of course, we only have those in analog form.:( I've always found that A&E has bad PQ... I think it actually some of the programming. Depending what you are watching, some scenes are grainy and snowy on purpose, then the next ones are better, not perfect but better. I see this alot on First 48 and a few of their "reality" programs.
j1paque 2008-08-01, 02:02 PM Hello,
Has anyone noticed HD channels "choppy" or "slow frames per second" in Sudbury? It's hard to explain. This started a couple days ago. It's not my TV, tried different TVs. This happens on both PVRs.
It's like the frames per second is lower, like using a crappy camera to record stuff, it's slow and almost "choppy".
I'm talking Big Brother, So You Think You can Dance, etc. Maybe it's only Canadian HD channels. This was CTV HD and Global HD.
Driving me nutz!
Northcountry 2008-08-01, 08:14 PM Have you tried a power cycle of the DCT?
denben73 2008-08-01, 09:24 PM I agree with Northcountry.
The DCT6412 PVRs in Sudbury and Timmins need frequent power cycles since the FW upgrade to 16.35 last September.;) I hope it gets updated soon...I'm sick of seeing that HD icon that does nothing in my menus. It's tawnting me...
j1paque 2008-08-05, 02:26 PM To do a full power cycle, do i just power it down and back on? Or do i need to unplug it?? This is different for each piece of hardware i own!
:)
Thanks!
denben73 2008-08-05, 07:12 PM You'll have to unplug the AC power cord completely and wait maybe 2 minutes before plugging it back in. BTW, when it loses power, the box returns to the last state it was in when it lost power. If it was on, it will come back on to the same channel within a few moments. If it's off, well, it stays off until you push the power button.;)
I would try to do it when you have no scheduled recordings starting within 15-30 minutes of plugging it back in, to give time for the guide to start coming back in. It could take up to 24 hours for the entire program guide to repopulate but mine seems to take about 12 hours or so if I'm not using the box. It can download the data faster when the machine is not in use.
Hope it helps.:)
Northcountry 2008-08-06, 10:11 AM It's actually recommended to power the DCT down first before pulling the plug. Think of the DCT as being a computer...you want to give it a chance to shut down properly and then pull the plug. :)
j1paque 2008-08-07, 10:50 AM Going back to this "choppy" affect. I've noticed it's when Global or CTV takes over an HD program. I was watching something on FOXHD last night and was broadcast by FOX and everything was fine and when 8pm rolled around and CTV took over the broadcasting of So You Think You Can Dance, the "choppyness" started immdediately. Same with Global. It may have to do with them re-converting the program. It seems to be the only two channels so far...
I'll keep an eye on it for the next little while.
Darn CRTC rules!
frostycold 2008-08-07, 01:13 PM I was thinking about switching to Persona, but after calling and getting a price breakdown, I am floored about the cost!
I have Starchoice now with 4 recievers, one HD. Digital Cable will cover the cost of 1 digital box, but there is a 5.99 fee for each of the other 3. That's almost 20 bucks a month before I even have programming.
Seems to me if Persona wants to compete, they need to do something about the outrageous cost of thier equipment.
Northcountry 2008-08-08, 10:25 AM You can buy your own digital boxes...just like you had to buy your satellite recievers :) They also have a buyback program where they will give you $100 cash and 2 months free cable and internet. ;)
j1paque 2008-08-08, 02:04 PM I switched over from Bell and i am saving over $60/mth for more services!!!
At one point i did my homework and Persona was more expensive, but with the Bell increases and the cost for the internet and so forth, Persona is now much cheaper.
I hate Bell....HATE!!!
:)
j1paque 2008-08-09, 10:42 PM Regarding the choppyness, it's not just Canadian channels, NBC covering olympics is the same. It may be a bandwidth issue in my neighborhood or bad cabling. I will have to call and complain....
I may start regretting switching from Bell, as much as i hate Bell!!!
Northcountry 2008-08-12, 08:11 AM Have you turned off all of the TV's noise reduction filters etc.? Does it only happen at a certain time of the day?
j1paque 2008-08-12, 09:01 AM Happens all the time! A Persona tech is coming over Wednesday.
It's not noise in the picture. It's like the camera is stuttering...
j1paque 2008-08-15, 08:23 AM Our signal was good coming in and then was really bad after the first splitter so the technician installed an amplifier and it looks great now. No issues with camera stuttering for now!
denben73 2008-08-26, 03:33 PM I'm curious about two things...
First, the very recent loss of 2 more PPV channels, did that just effect us in Timmins and/or Persona or did Shaw PPV do that to everybody?
(BTW....if this keeps up, there will only be Adult PPV left, since those channels never seem to go.;) Those two, plus the previous 3 and the preview channel bring the total to 6 channels that they could replace with others, you know???)
Other thing is, I tried to get my account info through the website and told it was no longer available due to Persona upgrading its billing system. I hope these aren't the only "upgrades" that we will be getting.:o
Has anyone heard anything new?
Northcountry 2008-08-27, 12:57 PM Shaw pulled the PPV channels off the satellite so everyone lost them. They keep the adult channels on because they're the money makers :o
Persona is probably moving to the EastLink billing system so that's probably the "upgrade" that's happening.
peaches 2008-09-16, 11:16 PM Hello,
I am new to the forum so hope I don't screw up.
In the past I've had Sympatico but switched to Persona a few years ago, I realy like their service as far as my computer goes, Presario, Vista home edtion, also do my own technical work, reset to factory conditions once in a while.
denben73 2008-09-23, 01:04 AM Anyone hear any rumblings or rumors about newer firmware and/or update iGuide software coming down the pipe for us anytime soon?
The FW (16.35) and SW (74.53-3321) we have here right now is...well.... CRAP
I'm about ready to throw this thing out the window.:(
It still "forgets" recordings that have been scheduled for over a week. I notice it went missing, reset the recording and viola! The recording is set for the same channel on the same day and time next week too. They replaced my box in October of '07 for this, never changed anything.
Oh yeah, my 6412 is having a complex...it thinks it can record 3 programs at once.:o I've had 2 recordings set to record Tuesdays at 8PM on two different channels. I check the list and a third recording has appeared, it wants to record two copies of the same program at the same time PLUS the other recording. I've been tempted to leave it alone to see how it would react but I figured it may cause a reset then I'd lose both programs I'm trying to record so I just delete the matching pair of shows and set it again.
denben73 2008-09-25, 04:02 PM Now that I'm reading my post, I should have asked if there were other known issues since Sept '07 or if there was anyone else with the same issues out there instead of what I asked.
Sorry.;)
Anyone know if when Xtreme Sports (525) goes dead, will it be replaced with anything else?? Like I don't know....TSN2 maybe??;)
