Sorry, things have been quiet here. Nothing to report yet. Then again, what else is new.

Anybody ever try using a QAM tuner in Timmins or even Sudbury?

I got a Hauppauge HVR-1800 about 6 weeks ago and I run a scan (QAM) and get absolutely nothing in the clear.:( The signal meter is full on channels 52-57, 59-64, 98 and 99 and a S/N ratio of 32 or 40. The digital signal monitor shows QAM64 or 256 depending on the channel but nothing shows up as being there in the list. I'm actually hoping nothing is available in a way because that would mean my card is probably OK.;)

I thought I'd get the music channels and maybe CLT on ch. 300 but I guess not.

Got a letter in the mail today saying that Persona is putting cable rates up $2/month for Basic cable and the same for internet starting on July 1st.

That is the fourth price increase in four years and we get nothing to show for it. We continue to get shafted.:(

Hi,

I was once a Persona subcriber and then swtiched to Bell due to the fact that Persona cost more than Bell for the same packages. Also, Bell had and still has a much better PVR.

I am thinking of going back to Persona as Bell's HD quality is degrading.

Has anyone switched from Bell to Persona and noticed a difference in quality (i care more about HD).

Please provide your comments, opinions, etc.

Thanks!

What part of Northern Ontario are you located in? Sudbury area?

Yes, Sudbury.

You should stop by either the Persona office, Sony Store, Future Shop or even Biancos and see for yourself what the quality looks like.

Currently Persona is only muxing 2 HD channels per 6Mhz slot except for the odd slot that has 2 HD mixed with a few SD channels. Most channels are native 1080i with the exception of a couple of the US networks that are 720p.
BTW the Persona website is way out of date for the channel listing. There is currently 29 HD channels.

Thanks.

And Persona's website is an embarrassment, especially being a communications company.

Just a note...

I called Persona about the rate increase and was curious to see if it applied to me since the letter says "Basic cable". Yeah, it does and I have the uPic10 package. I inquired about the chance that we will be "getting something in return", I was told that Timmins is on the "rebuild list" for this year and it will start this summer and if all goes well, we should finally be at par with Sudbury in Jan. '09. I remarked that I've heard this before (not the CSR's fault, I know) but was advised that it was basically a go. The word confirm never came up but I felt it was implied.:)

I guess it looks positive.;) If we start getting outages, service bulletins for interruptions, and see trucks around the city more than it probably looks good.

Have to wait and see.;)

I agree about the poor excuse of a website that Persona calls theirs. I wonder if Eastlink is working on something better in the background.

Yes it is a very poor excuse for a website! Pretty much a waste of bytes in cyberspace :)

Does that include Eastlink/Persona in Newfoundland?

No idea. I received that letter a week ago today. It may just be Persona's ON/QC customers. You could always try calling them.

Is there a way to get a list of programming of channels for Northern Alberta? I got the "all in" package which is $89 plus $6.50(each) for 2 digital receivers per month. I hate going through the guide and their website is grossly out of date.

Did you try the Persona website...it's not very good but there is a channel guide for each community.

Just curious, anyone else experiencing very low volume levels on The Weather Network for the last few weeks?

Also, the listings on Zap2it still show the old channels 50 & 70 and the same when setting up the guide in Windows Media Center. Since it happened 3 months ago (Wow, time flies...;)), I was wondering if Persona ever sent an updated line-up to the listings people?

Are there any SD channels in the clear in Timmins or Sudbury?

My WinTV HVR-1800 receives digital signals in most of the Chs. 53 to 65 range but can't "choose" anything specific to tune into?

I'm a bit surprised that TSC wouldn't be in the clear since everyone with a DCT gets it no matter what.

Anyone know?

Yes TSC is in the clear along with all of the audio channels...but that's about it. Should be able to find TSC on channel 62.7.

Any one find the channels 2-71 really crappy?

I just switched over from Bell.

I have the Dual Tuner PVR and an HDTV. The HD channels look super (better than Bell) but the SD channels don't look good at all.

I'm not saying they are not as nice as HD, duh! I'm saying it looks worse than the SD channels i had with Bell.

I had A&E HD on Bell, Persona only has it available on SD and i find it very snowy or pixelated. A&E may be the worse quality out of all the other SD channels.

Anyone else have this issue?

Why can't all channels be HD?! :)
