: Shaw DCT6412 Information / Questions / Problems

I hade a refurb'd 6412 P1 and it had horrible remote response. Same effect as some people have stated here.
I have since had Shaw replace my 6412 P1 with a P3 (because it was hunting for a signal all the time) and my remote works very very fast now.

just got the pace today, thrilled with it so far . i was surprised how much better my analog is with this compared to my dct 2524...can't say anything about hd yet as my signal strength is low until tuesday when the shaw tech comes and gets that part going, but..thrilled to pieces. i'll continue to use my computer pvr (2 hauppauge pvr 150 cards) for recording analog channels, the pace i'm thinking for hd channels/shows only..at least at the start , that's the easiest way for me to keep the systems straight in my head on what's doing what:)

hi guys ... searched for this issue and have come up empty.
Have been using the Motorola 6412 HD PVR for a couple of years now and as of about the last 3 months been having an issue with colour "fading" on some of my hd recordings. The issue is becoming quite noticable in which the skin colour seems to drop during the playback, but only sparaticly. I am connected thru HDMI and as you can tell by my post I'm far from an expert on all of this stuff. Hopefully someone can enlighten me as to if this is an issue with my box or my tv? thanks in advance for any suggestions!

Try wiggling the HDMI cable at both ends to see if it is a bad connection causing your problem.

I just picked up a used DCT 6416 Phase III receiver, and am running into an issue. Upon hooking it up the first time, the receiver was tuned to an analog station and I was receiving a picture. Once I activated the box on my account, all I get is "One Moment Please." on all channels (I assume they added the digital map feature to my account, as the guide shows the Dolby Digital icon on the old analog channels).
While they suggested it's a signal issue, they didn't have me actually check things like signal strength on the receiver. When I tried looking at the diagnostics menu after, it was as if the receiver wasn't tuned to a channel (it showed a lot of "n/a" messages beside both tuners).
Is there anything else I can try, or am I going to need a service call after all?
(Update: Not sure if this helps, but this is the first time I'm setting up digital cable on this account).
Also, just to confirm, they mentioned something about me not being able to have anything higher than Digital Basic since there's some sort of "trap" (?) on my line. They'd need to send a tech for that. Just curious what this means.

I had this before, the tech over the phone needed to reset the box from his end about 5 times before it started working, but it didn't require a service call.

PM Me your info before 3:30 today and I can have a look, if it's after 3:30 give Shaw a call back as this should be able to be fixed over the phone.
The basic part could be due to filters being on the line for tiers. Once those are removed those specific channels would come through. Looking at you account will give me more info though.

I tried contacting Shaw again to see what they could do -- I confirmed I was speaking to a tech rather than a customer service rep, but all he did was reboot my receiver once and then declare they'd have to send a tech.
I've sent you a PM Shaw Guru on the situation as it was a few days ago. Yes, I do have a splitter and an amp, and I do realize that could be my problem all along (but I'm trying to work with what I have first).
I saw a FAQ about the DCT boxes, and it referenced three diagnostic screens: OOB Status, In-Band Status, & Current Channel Status. Here's what they look like on my receiver currently (tuned to channel 3).
I've seen what these screens should look like when receiving a signal, and I'm hoping someone may be able to make sense of what's being reported. Worst case is that I PM Shaw Guru my account information.

One moment please usually means a level issue at the DCT. If you have splitters etc... in the line to the DCT try removing them, go direct to the DCT from the wall and see what that does.
If that doesn't help a truck roll will be needed.

With the SNR in the OOB screen at 19.1 FAIR this would be considered low. Mine at how was up around 21-22 range. You could try removing the splitter to see if it picks up a bit. Also is the amp one supplied by Shaw? Can you confirm it is plugged in properly as well.

The amp is indeed plugged in properly. It may have been provided by Shaw, but it's several years old.
Sounds like I may end up booking a service call after all then based on what you're saying (though later on this evening I could try removing one of the splitters from the equation and seeing if I get a signal then).

Get rid of the amp and splitter first. The amp could be old enough that it won't pass the digital frequency's, I think it will need to be a 5-750Mhz or higher.

For some odd reason my red recording light on the front my pvr will not turn off (even if it is not recording).
Oddly enough the red light is not on when the pvr is on. Although, when I turn off the pvr it stays on and will not go out.
Any ideas on how to fix this matter? It started just after the new software update.

Turn off "RF Bypass" under Setup > Cable Box Setup.

CMackay hit the nail on the head with this one -- 5-300MHz is what my amp is rated for. :(
.....the splitter itself is working fine, as one end goes to my cable modem (and Shaw Guru confirmed it was getting a good signal). The amp is not connected to the cable modem.
Would Shaw provide an amp for me then, or would the quickest way be for me just to buy one that is rated accordingly? (Shaw service calls would take a few days)
(EDIT: from what I see in other forums, Shaw would help out). Looks like that's the route I'll go for sure now.

Could it be the message indicator? I know there's been a couple times where I look at the PVR and think "what I am recordning" only to realize it's just a new message. If it's not that then try unplugging the power cable, not just the power button.

I seem to have lost my skip back and skip forward functions on the remote. I tried the codes listed at the beginning of this thread (code 173) and can't get it to work. I know I have the codes somewhere but can't find them, can anyone help me (I have a 6208)?

Just over a week after using my PVR, and already I've messed it up.... not good. I'm guessing I'm out of luck with this one, but maybe there's something else I can try:
I decided today to purchase an HDMI cable to replace the component cables I was using. While trying to get at a cable, I believe I pulled the coax cable from my DCT6416 (it may have been loose to begin with). The back of the receiver (where the connector is) looks normal, but now I can't get a signal at all (OOB status shows 0.00 under SNR).
Is there some kind of reset I can do to the receiver, or am I SOL? (The receiver was purchased used, so I doubt i have a warranty through Shaw anyways).

It just dawned on me, that this was the first time trying to use the digital terminal after Shaw came out to remove the traps on the line (that were supposed to be preventing me from getting the upper-tiered analog channels). Now I'm wondering if that could have messed things up.
If this is the case, I definitely won't be happy with Shaw, since they screwed up that service call twice, and now this.....
Any thoughts before i call them later today?

I am interested in going with Shaw. I am buying a new tv and there is a deal at the store I am buying the tv at (Visions) where I can get the shaw HDPVR for $350.
Is there anything I should be aware about? Does Shaw cover any warrenties for the PVR, or will I just have to deal with Visions? Should I get an extended warrenty from Visions that covers the HDPVR?
Is it just better to get from Shaw directly? Say if the PVR has problems down the road...what do you think would happen? Would I have to deal with Visions, Shaw, or will they both tell me I have to deal with Motorola then?
