It is a digital rca cable. On your box it is the orange output in the middle of the top row. It also connects to your receiver. Commonly known as coaxial output.

Try this
To optimize the output settings:

1. Be sure your DCH receiver is plugged into a power outlet and connected to your TV.

2. Power off the DCH receiver and then immediately press the MENU key on the front panel. If your TV is on, the on-screen menu lists the settings you can configure:

Use your remote control or the cursor keys on the front panel to navigate the on-screen display:

• Press the ▲ and ▼ keys to highlight the setting you wish to change. Press the ► key to select an option for that setting.

• To exit the setting and move to another setting, use the ▲ and ▼ keys.

• To exit the menu and save your settings, press the POWER or MENU key.

Since you are using HDMI cable under 4:3 override there are HDMI settings this is where you go to let the box know to send audio through optical out other wise audio is just sent through the HDMI cable.

awesome guys. thanks for the help. i'll go to a&B sound at lunch and pick up a spdif cable just in case. but i'll also try that extra menu configuration. would you happen to know what the menu option it would be for me to change the optical?

i had called shaw last night. the guy was so annoyingly unhelpful it was stupid.

i'll post up my results tonight after work!

I don’t remember the exact wording I am at work but I think it goes something like this HDMI audio – auto, optical, and I think analog
Plus you can change the way color is sent to TV - RGB or 4:4:4

You might want to try the settings first, not all AVR's have digital coaxial inputs...mine doesn't.

Unplug your hdmi cable and see if you get audio.

Optical may also work if you just disable your tv speakers.

Or use the optical out on the TV

okay guys, thanks for all your help. problem is solved. I had to bypass the audio source via menu system on the bootload menu as per what SONYXBR said. I also turned down the volume on the TV too and made sure that was off too. combined them both.. and i now have optical on all my channels again. sooo much better. thanks guys.

for anyone wondering. i am using a JVC-DILA with a HK receiver. i can help anyone needing assistance with those two devices.

And just so you know, if you ever have to use the SPDIF output, any RCA cable will do. It doesn't have to be a fancy "digital" cable.

oh for sure. thanks. yah. i went to a&b sound.. they wanted to unload a pricey cable on me but they also recommended turning off the tv volume.

hey all!

I searched the best I could for the solution to my problem- with no luck. I have an issue with playback on some of my recordings, usually when the box is near to 100% full..... my picture starts to "jump" or "stagger" during playback (usually NASCAR). I have never had this issue before and is starting to really become a problem. I hope I missed an easy fix to this somewhere! Thanks in advance!! (using HDMI for connection).

A relative just purchased his first Motorola box. After activation by Shaw there appears to be no audio. Connections are as follows; Video is Composite (yellow) and Audio is Stereo (red & white). Have tried "unlocking" it, navigating through the audio setup screen and still no success, any suggestions?

Silly question but is the volume on the TV itself turned up? Is it turned all the way down or on mute by chance??? If that is not the case try coax cable and see if that works.

Yeah, I double checked that. I going to have the relative bring it over and I'll try HDMI, SPDIF (optical and composite), and stereo (red &white). Can you connect from the coax out on the DCT6412/2305 directly to a TV? Has any one ever had a DCT that there was no volume and it was determined to be a hardware problem? Where do all the DCT's end up that are returned to Shaw for various reasons (trade in, repair, etc.)?

So long as you have a coax output on the DCT then you can connect it direct to a TV through the coax. There is a slightly possibility that it could be a faulty DCT but if you purchased it from Shaw they will replace it if it is still under warranty. DCTs go to the digital graveyard in the sky. :-)

Still no luck, performed a reset on the unit, connected the HDMI, SPDIF, SPDIF (optical) Stereo (Red & White) and no sound. Used the same connections and cables that were connected to my DCT6208 (except HDMI) compared the settings between the two and they were similar. Unit was not purchased through Shaw what options are remaining? Anywhere in Edmonton to get these repaired?

Time for something out of left field I guess...

On the DCT2500 it's possible to set the volume buttons on the remote to adjust the volume of the DCT itself (rather than a TV/stereo/receiver/etc). If that's an option with the 6412, maybe, just maybe, the volume on the DCT itself has been set down to zero (prior to purchase even)...or muted.

There's instructions somewhere for assigning the volume controls in such a manner. Sorry, I don't have access to any right now...perhaps someone else can provide the steps.

Worth a shot if nothing else...
